  1. Great work Ry and great pics, the pearl is always a issue with me, mods can be done well but it's very hard to compete with proper bezel. Next move now will be the AR, even if you dont get a gen (which are a bit crazy in price) something like Taka AR on rep crystal is extremely close in transparency to the omega double AR. Good transparency really makes the dial and lume pop. Chief does very similar also.

Back to the PO insert topic for a second, we all know that you can do a gen pearl mod to an aftermarket insert. In photos (if the pearl mod is done well) the bezel looks great. But once you have it done and on the wrist there's a few things you realize. The aftermarket insert has a much different finish than the gen. The gen has this reflective gloss or whatever and it cant be replicated. The quality of the printing is not as crisp and after excessive wrist time the rep insert fades fast. Especially the edges.

I realize gen bezels are gen bezels and you cant compare a $25 rep insert to them, but I just wanted to point a few things out for those who haven't don't the mod. I too went to a gen bezel and I could never go back :)

  2. Ha ha, I had a sneaky few bids on that bezel myself and you pipped me to it!

Glad to see its gone to good use and your watch looks really good. So I'm not bitter about it! (much!)

So I'm going to pull the trigger on a fen crystal and bezel next month, will there be any fitting problems? I'm going to order a gen gasket.

    Lol Matt!

There were no problems with fitment on both parts. Re. the crystal gasket, I went with the rep gasket. I heard rumours that the gen gasket was too thick and didn't fit. The rep gasket + gen crystal went together nicely and still maintained a 3 bar WR :)

  3. Awesome work! Love the SMP also!

You really like Omegas don't you?

    Thanks guys!

I have a strong interest in Omega (and always have as a kid) ...but I like Rolex too :)

BK/TW case (superlume dial) c/w gen bezel, gen crystal and gen crown. I've got a WM9 bracelet (fitted with a Sean clasp) as well...theres love for everyone!

  4. OK guys I am extremely happy to say that I can officially close the books on this project. I installed the last remaining pieces yesterday night and THIS is what I would consider an "Ultimate PO" :D

I've always been a fan of the orange bezel, but never the orange numerals on the dial. Hence why I never bought a pumpkin. I was fortunate to find a used orange bezel on eBay last week so I went and bought it, put it on my black/white dial PO and created this awesome piece. I've seen the guys on WUS do this before. Unfortunately the bezel was scratched @ 5 o'clock (less noticeable in person, the camera angles + lighting make it look worst than it is), but a gen bezel for $95.00CDN... I can't complain.

    Hope you guys like it...

    Build consists of:

    - Gen dial

    - Gen hands

    - Gen bezel

    - Gen crystal

    - Gen crown/tube

    - Gen bracelet (latest ceramic PO model)

    - Gen springbars

    - UPO HE valve assembly

    - ETA datewheel

    - ST2130 Seagull movement (brand new)

    Things to note:

    - Gen bezel was installed on the case without mods. I used the original hardware that came on the case and the bezel went straight on.

    - The ceramic PO bracelet snapped onto the case perfectly with no mods, however it appears the case on the new cermaic PO's are thicker in height - therefore my end links sit high above the lugs - see photos. It doesn't bother me, its hard to point out on the wrist. At some point if I feel like dishing out some more cash I will swap the current 858 end links with the older model made for this case.

    - The whole build has well over $2k in parts + sweat, when I did the math on what I spent I came out just under $1,400.00CDN...

  5. The chronograph pushers should be a bit stiff/tight and should also have a nice click when pressed down.

When running the chrono don't forget to stop it first (pushing down the top pusher) and then resetting with the bottom pusher. If you go straight to pushing the bottom pusher it messes with your chrono movement.

  6. Scuffler,Let me show you what kind of mess your getting yourself into! Like I said, once upon a time I was in your shoes...Started off with a budget SMP pretty much like yours:-Cost me about $120.00...thought about throwing a gen insert and better movement in it for a while...73765038.jpgThen moved onto another 21j, but an improved version with a pearl mod, better dial and better crystal. Defnitely an upgraded rep than what I had prior to:72951237.jpgThen went to buying an ETA SMP and franken the crap out of it:1. Rep case + back2. Gen dial3. Gen hands4. Gen crown5. Gen HE valve6. Gen bezel7. Gen bracelet (nato in the photo though)8. Swiss manufactured saphire crystal9. Swiss 2836-2 movement93616704u.jpgThen got fed up - went and bought gens (gen quartz and gen SMP - still have them today)21816759.jpg49470566.jpgStarted missing having a franken SMP so I built another 2 weeks ago (on top of my two gens and a franken PO). This is by far my wickedest franken ever...- Gen dial- Gen bezel- Gen hands- Gen crown/tube- Gen rubber strap- ETA datewheel- Mineral crystal (its flat and gen like. OK for now + looks great)- Modded CG's (by Zigmeister)- Rep Springbars- ETA 2824-2photo3eg.jpgMy first words coming into this hobby were, just trying to find myself a clean, budget friendly rep thats half decent (and reasonably accurate). I'm new and would like to learn about the hobby..........and look where I ended up a year and a half later! Put on your seatbelt dude cause your in for a hell of a bumpy ride!

  7. Scuffler,

I need to correct myself, the DG movement "I believe" will take the asian 21j hands. It appears you have a 21j movement in your rep currently so you would be ok from that stand point.

Re. which movements better, the DG or the 21J I cant really comment on that. Most of what I work with today are 2824's...I'm sure someone else could chime in.

  8. Scuffler, the only thing that's going to fit in your case (without having to spend coin on mods) is the DG movement. Even that will require new hands...

ST2130 is essentially a 2824 and anything like a 2824 or 2836 will require a new movement holder + hands. Your dial IMO is very poor and likely won't line up with an ST2130 even if you tried it.

Depending on how far you plan to go with mods, you may want to consider finding a rep that already houses a Swiss or Asian 2824...

I've got 3 franken SMPs today and I was in the exact same position you were once. Difference is I got totally cut up when I said I wanted to Franken a 21j :)

  9. Excellent work om3ga_guy, worth having a build like this, classic watch. Also triplehd, some really great smps there, shame they had to be sold, its difficult selling custom builds, the buyers really can't appreciate all the blood sweat and tears that went into finding parts and doing the build....and you cant really charge for those things!

    +1 :)
