  1. 2893 is a great movement. 2836 modified is, well, modified. I am sure it can be great, too. But there are many OEM watches (some that I own) that use the 2893 with great success. I am not quite sure what I am trying to state here, other than you get what u pay for in life (within reason): A Venus 178 tends to be better than a seconds at 6 Asia 7750. At least scientific data suggests that overwhelming evidence implies that this perhaps can be said as 'true' since it is 99% out of 100%. Sure, nothing can be 'true' in entirety, but 99% dictates that for us, in the here and now, it can be implied as 'mostly true'. Hey look, I've had a Venus 178 conk out on me while my PAM 196 rep has kept purring like a kitten for way more than a year... But I'm willing to openly bet that a NOS Venus 178 is indeed waaay better than an Asia 7750!!!

  3. I would find it hard to believe that there would be any flaws with a Sinn (but sh*t happens sometimes). My reasoning here is that Helmut has always made his watches to such an exacting degree that Sinn is ohhh-so German (if u catch my drift). Even when Sinn used up Breitling's old Navitimer parts (when Breitling went out of business for a few years) - Sinn's Navitimer was better built than the originals at the time. Anyhow, I can't argue with what actually could be a random quality control flaw, but in general, Sinn makes the best watches for the least amount of money. Trust me on this, put a Lemania 5100-based EZM-1 in your pipe - then tell me what you think of that smoke!
  4. It's a nice movement. Def. better than modified 2836.
  5. I agree - understated elegance is true elegance! To hell with oversized nouveaux-riches bad taste bling bling. Anybody can walk into a watchshop and ask the jeweller to cook up a diamond-encrusted waste o' money. But how many people walk into the same shop and ask to purchase a Model 96 Calatrava? Mmmmm... Anyhow, 39mm IWC chronos are right up there with the great simple timless style of vintage Patek, Breguet and VC. Cheers
  6. Well, it all makes no difference to me. 46mm is just plain too damn big. Bring on the Br03.
  7. Stephane, Very nice photos and informative review. I really like the MBW 16610 and I agree that it is an essentially perfect rep (aside from the tube/crown. Cheers PS. Long live the Shitinerand pieces out there!
  8. I see Richard Tracy that you are talking about the Spitfire version - not the 'regular' version. Either way, any seller/dealer who finally reps the Spitfire version and Regular version correctly will get a lot of sales. Why? Well because these models are the quintessential Pilot chronographs. They are highly coveted. The subdial flaws need to be fixed, they are grossy incorrect and a deal-breaker for a stickler like me (and a lot of other highly-opiniated folks around here). When it comes to repping IWC, there is always the seemingly insurmountable obstacle of total & complete dial simplicity. This proves to be the most difficult concept: how to replicate an utterly simple dial 1:1 without overlooking obvious replication errors. An example: Mark XV. It took years for a sorta decent Mark XV rep to appear. Why was it so difficult to replicate? Well, total simplicity is hard to grasp! Anyhow, u guys get my point. I look forward to any further IWC improvements. Especially with one of these fine chronos. Cheers
  9. I would really like to see the 39mm non-Spitfire version with a correct dial. The subdials on the rep are totally & blaringly wrong.
  10. Friday is Accutron Spaceview day for me. What a beauty. And an accurate beauty, too. Gotta love that tuning fork hum!
  11. That is one helluva fine watch. Very nice choice! I dream of owning an EZM-1.
  12. You should def. get a well-made opener. It is the only way to get the caseback on real tight.
  13. I'm in love with the ceramic Black Seal. Wow.
  14. I can't wait for Davidsen to get the correct hands for his 249. His dial & case looks real nice!
  15. I like 'em both. But for me, the G is a keeper.
  16. Get it done by someone unless you have the dexterity, patience, proper tools and experience.
  17. No offense to the FM lovers out there. I am somewhat curious though: it seems that the fanfare has died down somewhat. I remember that here in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Manhattan, I kept seeing lovely models wearing them out in the streets/nightclubs, etc... Now it's all been replaced with Patek 24 Hours and Baume & Mercier tanks.
  18. I don't think so. But I could be wrong. There were some hardcore Muller collectors around this place a year ago. Maybe they could chime in, unless they are embarassed
  19. Nice stuff. I was at an AD today (went to peek at the all black IWC Pportuguese) and the repair guy and I were chatting about stuff. He told me that he had recently serviced a Seamaster rep but that the owner of the shop charged the customer "full price" or said that he was going to notify Bienne/local authorities once it was found out that the watch was a rep. Yikes. I high-tailed it outta there after that conversation!
  20. As always, just when I thought I had a serious watch addiction, Tanfoglio comes around and posts more pictures clearly depicting his utter insanity! Cheers
  21. Is it just me or has the Muller craze died out? Maybe it's for the better! Poor old Montres Allison :horse:
