  1. Natural light works great. I sometimes use white paper to diffuse the light. It helps also to use white paper to block/eradicate crystal reflections as well (in case u can't use a polarizer with your camera).
  2. That is a killer combo! Very lovely. Makes me wanna go out and buy the watch and the strap. Cheers
  3. Ahh yes, staight from the motherland of SM300 fakes... And this one is the ever-classic "Stubby" SM300! A classic fake, if I may say! You don't see these too often anymore...
  4. One of my mystery movements is dead. Well, not really dead, just messed up in the keyless works (as usual). It needs repair. I'll never repair it since I got a few V72 versions sitting around here.
  5. Gotta accept real parts (at least for me). Case and caseback also have to be OEM size (not 1675 case or 1680/5513 case in thickness).
  6. Wish there were more threads like this around here like we used to have. This is what this hobby is all about: beauty & enjoyment of beauty! Those pics are wonderful by the way!
  7. EE were 7750-based 62XX watches that preceeded DW 62XX. They were very rare and very few made it to a wrist near you. The EE Daytona is certainly a part of rep history.
  8. Ubi knew that I would agree with this comment! I've been saying this for a few years now to folks who want to diversify/ameliorate their price point index within their watch portfolio. It happend long ago with 1016 (which is sagging as of last year). To look back on popular models, prices have been silly since our favorite Italians and Middle East Satraps scooped them all up in the early 90s. I am specifically referring to 62XX seriesand 1655. Is the 1655 worth all that money? Hell no! It's a silly watch with an awkward layout that makes no sense. Do I want one? Hell yes! I believe that the 1655 would've been a lot more successful if the bezel was rotateable. PS. TTK: very nice watch - in fact, that is one of my favorite watches that I don't own *hint *hint *hint I've been waiting for MBW 1655 for too long! PSS. Edited for seriously ridiculous spelling errors. Maybe it's the hangover...
  9. Interesting specimen. Looks nice to me. You did well pricewise if the movement is serviced and 'healthy'. I have seen those watch shops in Vietnam. Very interesting items. Now lads, here's a story for you. I did make a post of this years ago, you saggy old veterans might recall my anecdote: Many years ago, there was a shady cobbler selling a plethora of military fakes (IWC Mark X, Rolex M.O.D. 5517, Blanpain 50 Fathoms, Omega SM300, Longines Greenlander, Omega WWW, JLC WWW, Breguet Type XX, Dodane Type XX or XXI, Tutima BUND/NATO, Sinn BUND/NATO, etc). This seller was the only source for the very faked M.O.D. issued SM300. And let me tell ya... This dude caused a sensation in the watch world. He was ripping people off left and right! I know that there were some people who went to Vietnam so that they could personally kick his [censored] for all the trouble this guy caused. Of course, soon after the success of this cobbler, a few other dudes started appearing on the vintage military watch market. Soon, all sorts of unique fakes/frankens were being made. I myself was a proud owner of a faked British military issue M.O.D. IWC Type 48 made by mystery man. This was in the mid-late 1990's by the way.
  10. I have not ever gotten any PM notification with this board software. And yes, I have 'PM notification' enabled. I figured it was just a bug, but I admit it bugs me since I have to log in here to see if there are any PM's.
  11. Let it air dry. U can place it in a drawer with a can of dessicant to help. It should run again once it's dry. You should have it serviced since the oils have probably been stripped: u don't drive your car without any oil do you?
  12. When are you opening your watch store?
  13. Wutup fora hounds? Ain't nobody got one of these?
  14. I would scoop up a MK XVI rep up in a heartbeat, too. The MK XVI is unorthodox IMHO, like the Spitfire. But, I still like it. What I don't like is... The Spitfire. I am glad that they've laid those ugly dials to rest. Anyhow the XVI would match my 3717 very nicely!
  15. This thing has been glued to my wrist ever since it arrived!
  16. Welcome aboard. Get ready to drain your back accounts!
  17. Well, I can tell you that the watch is overpriced. Especially after shipping fees. If u want a reliable 6263 rep, get one with the Seagull movement (not the 7750). You'll get asymetric pushers, thinner case profile and movement reliability. Subdial spacing will be incorrect, but not too bad!
  18. Both silver and black long seconds hands were used on OEM. It was more common though to have silver with black dial, and black with silver dial (for obvious reasons). Rolex used parts randomly, it all depended upon what was in the parts cache at the time of construction. As mentioned before, be careful with that mystery movement.
  19. Me too. That Air King is a delightful beauty worth keeping. Perhaps you should keep that Air King alive until you source all genuine parts for your 5513. OEM cases do pop up once in a while on eBay. Look, while you're at it, you might as well take the time to build the best possible franken that you can! JMHO Cheers
  20. Yeah, the gold hallmark is just plain stupid. I mean, why not stamp my '91 Bavarian vehicule with 18K - afterall, it is a 750!!!
