  1. Thank you Retina! I have much to learn from you guys, I'm not an expert but just someone who reads and try to learn I enjoy meeting members in person too. Made countless friends on the forums and I'm grateful for that

    Totally in love with this Gen Dial Tiffany Paul Newman (refinished) this is absolutely an incredible watch. I have the gen rivet bracelet for it too

    And my other love a 6263 Paul Newman gen dial (also refinished) with patina on the subdials. Case has been slimmed and reworked.

    There was some controversy regarding that T&C dial, it can be a gen singer plate but I doubt it's a gen PN dial. If it was gen it would be in the 5 figure range. It's a nice piece nevertheless, enjoy it :)

  2. if theres one thing i utterly dislike is that auction houses always over hype the items for auction. The pictures they upload and showcase are often always photoshopped and can be starkly different from what you get when you see the item in person. saying that the case was hardly ever polished is complete [censored] in my opinion, the words they use are mis guided and a sales pitch. carefully chosen to hype up the sale price

    however, christie has made an extremely strong case for this particular piece. four renowned daytona experts were called in and they all unanimously agreed that the dial was correct in everyway. Rolex Geneva confirmed that the dial was made by them as well, this was a controversial piece for many reasons as reported here;

    if history is a representation of the future, more examples of this piece will pop up, only that way will the vintage fora agree in consensus that they actually do exist.

    it is however, ridiculous to think that a watch that sold for 250-300usd 30 years ago would go for over half a million today.

  3. Edge, having seen a very large number of vintage Rolexes, a phong is a good base but you will need to send it to a modder to get it reshaped. The smallest details are what makes vintage Rolex amazing. The chamfers, thin profiles, nicely aged dial and will lumed plots are very hard to find well put together. There are many people who can do it at Europe as you mentioned. 3-4K estimate is on the correct ballpark. But expect things to go wrong, like all mods, they require patience, can't wait to see what you can create ;)

    Hey guys,

    Most of you will probably know me from the AP section. I've been a member on the rep fora since 2008 and really haven't been on here actively since about 1-2 years. I'm checking back in. I was collecting & still am collecting gens but after a recent burglary where they only came for my watches I'm drawn back to reps. I took a big hit and don't want it to happen again so most of my gens will stay at the bankvault. Let's get back to getting some reps in my home! :-).

    Looks like the makers mainly focus on Rolex, AP, Tudor etc. Not as much Panerai as back in the day nor Hublot or other brand. Think for example about Oris, Longines, ...

    My main interest for the last years are vintage pieces, preferably utilitarian. I love pieces used in the military.

    Anyhow. Hey guys!

    your datewheels are legendary ;)

    welcome back!
