  1. I made those comments before having the opportunity of comparing mine with a gen side by side. Gen has also that light dark dial and the markers are also not clear white (anyway, in my pics I was not able to reproduce the correct color for markers and font). And believe me, you can not spot the thick of the markers even having rep and gen side by side unless you already now that flaw.
  2. Thanks b16a2! too much work and just a few time for hobbies... erwinner, I had the chance of comparing rep and gen dials side by side and both have the same color...this rare "pale" black. asim and Pylon: yes, the AR upgrade is needed... my swiss SFSO has far a better AR than this. Yes, but only the hands from the old Asian 7750 fit the ETA. Now, for your enjoyment, the watch on TWB leather strap with rep buckle. Nice, isn't it?
  3. IWC with new "franken strap": leather fpm TWB and buckle from rep band:
  4. Old DJ cases might take 2836 (160xx); newest cases (162xx) take 2824. In both cases, a 2892 is much better because of being thinner, and admitting more clearance between dial and movement for DW installation. In all cases, movement ring is necessary to ensure stem alignment to case hole. Check in the forum for movement rings and datewheels. And prepare to spend between 800 to 1000 USD for building a franken depending on how much you have to handover to a professional and where you source parts from apart of how much gen parts of the DJ you want to install. A gen bracelet might increase price significantly.
  5. Yes... 1120 mov is 90% an ETA 2892/A2 with new rotor, +2 jewels, some paint, rhodium plating, etc. Unless I'm mistaken, stem must fit 100% if the rep case is like the gen, which probably not.
  6. Thanks Toad and Mickey... it makes me feel better... tomorrow I have dinner with a friend of mine having the gen... I'll try to make pics...
  7. Do you have any clue if an ETA7750 behaves the same? My 2824 in my franken DJ changes at 00:00!!! and the SFSO changes around 00:00 also... same with the 2836 in my MBW Sub. Maybe I'm too picky
  8. Mine starts changing the date at 11:00 PM and complete it at 00:00. And day starts moving at 11:45 PM and complete the move by 1:00 AM... What about yours? is it acceptable what's happening to mine?
  9. Thanks teddy. We appreciate your effort and contribution to the community.
  10. Quite strange there are not just a couple of lines with some minimum info. I second the idea of buying a couple of those movs. Being a customer, it wouldn't be difficult for your friend to shot a mail to supplier asking for details on these Asian mov.

DW V3 is not bad but day and date fonts are not 100% equals:

V1: correct lume (just in 3/6/9/12 markers) - crooked markers though. Poor AR V2: incorrect lume (all markers) - missing sub-dials rings (little step down) - better double AR V3: correct lume - aligned markers - double AR In all models DW (day/date) must be replaced by genuine ETA.
  13. Already in my drawer waiting for a trip to my watchmaker...
  14. I decided to go for his model with SS from a trusted dealer, who confirmed he had the V3, with correct sub-dials, lume, double AR and non-crocked markers. I have some concerns that I would like to share with you. Maybe it's me and my picky behavior but I'm no 100% I've got what I asked for (which easily might be just my mistake), so please share your thoughts and opinions. Will be very much appreciated. From my perspective these are the watch aspects I'm don't feel fully satisfied: Dial color: I though it was black light a strong coffee! but seems to be light dark. Maybe it's the way it should be. Hour markers: Also I though thy were white like snow but they look like "dirty white" or more close to beige. Probably white was only in my mind. Lume: V3 was suppose to have a strong lume... I find this one just a decent lume... AR: Some times sems to be good for me, some others no... I'm clearly an undecided guy Bracelet clasp is not easy to open or close. This is not a guess, it's a fact. So here are the pictures... feel free to comment:
  15. I remember... it was the very beginning of questioning if we had swiss or Chinese movements inside our watches...
  16. I fully agree with you Robbie. It's also my case about watchmaker skills... Although I'm lucky because I have a watchmaker near home who can fix some issues, professional watchmakers are not skilled in rep mods, and when you ask them to sharp CG's or replace inserts that need to be trimmed, first they look at you like saying "this is not a watchmaker job" or they charge a lot because it takes them many time to be able to do it. Therefore, you need to develop some skills, because, as an example, sizing a SFSO rep bracelet takes double of time and effort than sizing a genuine. So I do it at home rather than taking it onto a jewelry (not an AD, of course). I'm confident that in the future, at least for some high quality reps, we can count with people like BK for QC and customer reationships...
  17. Just for those thinking about doing this mod... it takes quite long you need about 2 hrs for the whole process... at least for people with low skills, like me. And sanding with a dremel is very very risky unless you have lot of experience managing these tools. Use a low speed when sanding.
  18. I guess some of us may have a different view... isn't it? Fakey... of course you can take the easy way... which is accepting things as they are... I'm happy that in the past not everybody did the same because maybe today there
  19. Agree. True... Therefore we, as buyers, need much more protection and respect from our dealers... an this is only possible revealing any unsatisfactory transaction in the board, unless the dealer makes his best to find a deal with the customer. Furthermore, the dealer also has the possibility to post and ask moderators and the general community for kind of intermediation (why not creating such a transaction intermediate board for difficult deals?). I'm around since end of 2005 (old RWG) and I have seen a slightly change in sellers behavior, except in "cartel ones". There are some of them that started to approach more personally each customer... This may be the beginning of a new way ofbuyers/dealersrelationships... and mostly due to those members that have exposed in public their findings, flaw transactions... even with the risk of being attacked by other members... This sentence should be the "Bible" for sellers
