  1. My forum name sort of gives the game away, :fireman: although, after 24 years in the job, I rarely have to get "hot and sweaty" (except when I'm staying in my apartment in Turkey !!) and spend most of my working days driving a desk !! :D

While we're all blowing our own trumpets, I forgot to mention that I used to navigate 250,000 tonne crude oil tankers, 125,000 tonne bulk carriers and 80,000 tonne container ships, around the world.... great fun !! B)

  2. Oh yeah, me, I'm a trader. I own a private equity hedge fund which primarly trades specialzed derivative based return enhancement strategies for institutional clients (investment banks and larger hedge funds). I also have a software company that develops automated trading systems, risk management systems, and productivity tools again for larger funds, institutions, and money managers. And no, we are not down from these markets as that question always seems to come these days. Times are great. We trade many volatility keyed strategies and as such had a record year in 2008 for many of our asset classes for absolute returns. Great times for traders, the worst for investors...

Makes my job seem quite boring...

  4. Servicing 90 A7750's in 3 months is certainly a record, I am amazed that this many have been sent in by RWG members, genuine watch shops would never see that many chrono's in a year...:)

Well I have been taking apart and servicing A7750's for close to 4 years now...I have yet to have one wear out, even the one I serviced 4 years ago that has been sitting and running non-stop on my winder for 4 years, still keeps perfect time and works perfect.

Wheels are made of brass and can't be blued, and blued steel is hard, not soft, so those comments are a bit confusing...in any case, I have never seen in any of this in any of the A7750's I have serviced, all the pivots are polished nickel coloured steel.

Short mainsprings?? well when the barrel is full and you can't fit in anymore spring, and when the Asian mainspring is the same length as the ETA one, I don't know how it can be too short...again...confused about that statement.

Soft winding wheels...they are made of brass and brass is soft, all the wheels in all watches are made of brass, and the pivots are made of steel.

Too small autowinding pivots? never noted this issue either...

My experience is totally different than the one shared here, and my failure and return rate is so close to zero following service of the A7750, that it's not an issue.

Now I'm confused!... I would like to hear what Michael has to say...

  5. What Michael is telling us is a little disturbing! From the majority of the posts I have read in this forum, I was under the impression that the A7750 was a pretty strong motor and would last for years if it had a professional overhaul within the first year of its life. It appears that even an overhaul is no guarantee that a 7750 won't fail due to weak parts...

It just goes to reinforce the fact that buying replicas is a lottery !

  6. Wow, Avanti.. you have been welcomed and initiated at the same time.. .. ya gotta be a little 'thick skinned".. the members here are the "BEST" the Community as a whole is the "Best" on the net IMO.. B) ya just gotta get used to the "dry humor" .. this forum covers the entire planet .. :o

Stick around and you will see that this place is truly more than just watches !!.. the members here from Admin to the Admin Team .. to the "Old Guard".. and not so Old.. are worth every bit of praise .. not for just their knowledge in watches but for their genuine concern to support you .. although at times we may have a strange way of showing it... We are a family.. some feuds happen now and then , but in general you will not find a more giving community..

RWG.. Could very well stand for: ... "Real Watch Guy's" as the knowledge and research done here supasses any genuine forum .. we have to be spot on in information.. otherwise how can members truly know if the reps are accurate.. :) you will learn more about watch movements here than any other Forum ..

You've already contributed with this thread in that ... everyone is having a good time... so.. take off your shoes.. get comfortable... and I hope you like Obsessions.. cause you have entered into one heck of a OCD .... :D

Live Strong and Wear it Well !!

    Aloha~Cheers

    Lani

Absolutely !! Well said, Lani :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Mind you ... Avanti's gone very quiet.... perhaps we're too late and we've scared him off...

  7. Strange..

Since a long time now , no Polish or Polish speaking members anymore on this forum that could/would contact Jakub and eventually shed some light on this "mistery" ... very strange..

Jakub got my first rep and it vanished... And with it.. vanished my trust in this fascinating , but unreliable rep world.....

I hope that someone, sometime, will explain what has really happened in the case of this "Great Jacub Theft...".

Until then, no reps for me anymore.....I''m very dissapointed. ... Fake world, Fake people..

I simply don't trust it anymore....

I'll stick to the genuine, real stuff.. much, much more reliable....

    Sad Greetings,

    Lewis.

    Lewis

I'm very sad that you feel this way :( Please don't think that this is "the norm" in rep collecting! I have been collecting reps and involved with RWG since 2006 and I have had no watches "disappear", apart from one (thanks to Jakub). I also had 4 watches successfully AR'd by Jakub and the results were spectacular! As you've read, something went seriously wrong with Jakub but rep collecting moves on...

Yes, it IS a risky business but if you're prepared and do plenty of research, it can be fairly safe and (a lot) cheaper than buying gens ! Just think how many high quality reps you can own for the price of ONE gen ! B)

  8. Hi guys, today I tried to edit one of my posts and I can figure out how to do this...on other rep.forums there are an "edit" button with your post but not here so is there another way of doing this, plz help a semi-noob

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there should be an EDIT button at the bottom right of your screen... ;)

EDIT - ...To the left of "QUOTE" and "REPLY"...

  9. Although the photos were really great and did show off the Deepsea well, I still find myself not liking this watch at all. It's not in balance, the bracelet and end links being 20mm is just wrong for such a large thick watch, it looks out of proportion, at least to me anyway ;)^_^

I still like the watch but I completely agree with you about the bracelet. :bad:
