  1. When you do what Ubi has done, they are definately more interesting. Go out and drop the $10,000 on a gen in a shop or build the frankens from scratch?
  2. If you will be here early enough, there is a GTG Friday evening http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=57778
  3. http://nickhacko.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html The first article, this guy sells second hand watches here in Sydney, probably a safe bet not to take your reps into him to be serviced. Nice looking franken though.
  4. You haven't worn that Astbury yet? I don't think we can be friends any more.
  5. Unlike some here, I have not got a huge collection. However, even with the limited number of watches, I find the only one I usually wear is the BCE. Part of that is because of the work I do, and so only want one beat up watch, rather than a whole box of beat up ones. But even when I am not working, I find it is the one I usually wear, unless I sit down and wonder which watch I will wear out today/tonight. I guess part of it could be to do with not wanting the power reserve to die on the daily beater, necessitating adjuting it all the time, but it just seems to be the one I gravitate to most of the time. Case in point: I had to get the bracelet resized on my UPO after a couple of pins worked their way lose while I was using a hedge trimmer with it (damn pins, they should use screws!) and also my DSN 113 needed the minute hand reattaching after being dropped. Got them back about 7 weks ago, and have not worn them since getting them back. So I was wondering if others find they tend to wear the same watch most of the time, or grab one at random, or spend a lot of time choosing each day? When I do get a new watch, it tends to stay on the wrist for the first week or so since it is new, but I always end up back at the BCE. Also, for those with bigger collections, do you tend to rotate more?
  6. Sadly at least some of it is untrue. Couldn't be bothered hunting for all real answers though
  7. Seems to be a decent camera, I picked one up last year, can't recall what price, and looks like it had been discontinued now anyway. But at 8.1mp, it does seem like a decent camera. Haven't used it a great deal, but pictures come out alright. It does have a macro function, but in my opinion, macro doesn't come out as good as some of what I see on the board. Or maybe I just don't get out and use it enough. As far as the price goes, it doesn't sound cheap, but if in good condition might be alright, wouldn't be a big saving over having got one of them new I don't think. A review here if you have not already checked them out http://reviews.photographyreview.com/blog/...sc-w150-review/
  8. Take a look at alpha, their whole repetoire is lifted! At least with the one on show here, it is a quartz movement hence subdials would move differently.
  9. You are right there, in fact I also noticed a dial the same in pretty good condition to replace this one - of course the auction on thqt finishes a couple of days earlier so you would be buying the cart before the horse.
  10. Hmmm, maybe bastardise it a bit with a replacement dial too http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-1970s-Mens-Tudor-...%3A2%7C294%3A50
  11. Just browsing a local ebay seller of watch parts, dials mostly, and they have a couple of tudors there. Just wondering whatsort of price this one in particular would be worth, although i am sure Offshore likely has a snipe set up on a lot of this guys stuff usually anyway. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Tudor-70s-Oyster...%3A3%7C294%3A50 A couple of Franck Muller dials there too by the way.
  12. Bit different, looks kinda cool! Good work!
  13. On a related note, what is stopping me visit the breitling forum more often is the couple of idiots there that do nothing but post they have spotted a fake on ebay. One guy, joined in February, over 1,000 posts. Probably 950 of them 'look at this fake on ebay' posts.
  14. As I said on the other forums, there is a GTG happening in about a month here in Sydney, being organised over at RG. http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=57778
  15. That was the thing that I found interesting - Sydney casino saying they haven't had any problems with people trying to pass fake chips in 10 years. But even using some from of RF chip in the chips, how would they even catch anyone? 100,000 chips on the premises and they have one walk out the door, how do they even notice really? And jump in a cab, how will it be known where exactly the chip is even? Just seems to complex to track them in my opinion.
  16. True, but introduce them right and how do you get caught? Just a hypothetical, but if you were to have the fake ones in your pants pocket when arriving, hit a table, play a little while, take your chips with you when you leave the table to go to the bathroom, hit a different table later on with a mix of real and fake chips, as long as they are good enough, how would the casino even know you were the one that introduced them? Could have been in circulation for weeks and been got them from the dealer that evening, as long as they are good enough.
  17. I find this rather amusing. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/stor...5001021,00.html Seems a casino in Australia has discovered that counterfeit $1000 chips have been introduced into the casino. In retrospect, I find it interesting it doesn't happen more often; suely it can't be too hard to manufacture 1:1 reps of casino chips. Why didn't I think of it sooner? To honest probably.
  18. The one made of $100 notes. Although those links go missing pretty fast
  19. Welcome, you will find a lot of us that are in Aus around the place.
  20. Charlies hobbies seem to be good ones to have, maybe try those?
  21. My thoughts too when he mentioned this. He says he has been servicing an A7750 a day for 3 months and watch-smithing is his business - doubt there would be many of these movements going through his shop in general.
