Tourism is good for the economy of the country visited. If it does become a right the money spent on travel is not lost. The money is transfered from one nation's economy to another's. It becomes a balance of payments issue and it is a transfer of wealth issue. It will cost more to be middle class in Europe once again. Follow the money and you will find the real reason behind a push like this. To be clear this is only my opinion.

I find this news surprising. The point of owning a gen Breitling Vs owning a rep version is diminished for me after reading this thread.

A 40mm thick layer of gold is a layer of gold the thickness of the diameter of a Submariner. Probably 40mils thick.

Very nice watch you have there. Here is some info I picked up on the Rolex gold shell cases. Rolex service in Toronto, Canada informed me that the gold on these cases is 40mm thick and it is an actual layer of solid 14k fused onto the stainless steel.

I had a gold shell case that was worn in a spot and I wanted the gold removed so to use the case as a solid stainless steel Date case. A jeweler friend went to work to remove the gold and in the end had to sand blast it off. He tells me it was a far tougher job than he expected. In the end he removed all the gold but it took a lot of work. These gold shell cases from Rolex are far different than a simple gold plated case.

I do not have either and have only had one Breitling rep. It was a gold BCE and it was ok but nothing that really could be considered great. That was a year and a half ago and I am wondering if the manufactures have come out with a killer Tag or Breitling. I noticed that AP prices have eclipsed the $500 barrier.

I have moved my collection to better quality watches to include Frankens and a WM9 to go better with my 2 gen Datejusts. Now, these watches have cost me well over $500 each but they are close to being Super Reps. Some of the prices I have seen reps going for I expect them to be Super Reps but could it be that the dealers and manufactures are taking super normal profits without upping quality. To spend $500+ for a rep is fine if it does not need any modding and the quality is high. Is that the case today? Can you buy an out of the box Super Rep for $500?

Hi welcome to the forum ... turn off the caps as it is considered shouting in the online world and we all want to remain civil.

You need to have a look in BK's section on RWG for info on his watches ... by the bye they are considered to be the best out of the box replications of the Rolex Sub and Yacht-Master and they do take gen parts. If you want the best you will pay the highest price for it. You can have a look at the other dealer's sections and see what they have for less $$$$

Also, why not use the search function in the Rolex section ... it has been very useful for me.

I like that watch very much but would prefer that dial on the new Sub with ceramic bezel, I would seriously consider one even though I have sworn off new gen watches. Two thumbs up

for me chrono is a Newman Daytona and the sporty has to be the bk wm9 yacht-master no opinion on the others

Gen feel and look requires mods to Franken level. BK WM9 are are excellent as they are. I expect that you need to spend about $500 US minimum to get the gen look and feel that I would be satisfied with. Everybody is different. Good question should get many opinions.

I like that B & R ... a nice choice of model ... I recommend Auchentoshan Scotch Whiskey. Any of its products are special as they are all triple distilled but I favor the 12 year old. Very smooth blends that almost go down like water so be careful with these.

Thank you for sharing this. I have held back on buying this watch because of the brass plate and it never occured to me to sand off the brass.

I have experienced the same disrespect when selling a watch. Now I place conditions on a sale to allow me to make the decision as to who I will sell to, No more first to post "I'll take it" any more. Too bad it has come to this.
