  1. Well, the Marine Big Date is the "entry level" for Breguet (not joking). But I mean, come on-- what do you expect for only about $10,000? If you want something nicer, you're going to have to at least look at their mid-priced range (starting at about $30,000). You get what you pay for, after all.
  2. You know, I really hate gold. Don't own a single gold thing in my house. Not even a belt. But I have to admit that I really dig that RG/black combination. And I think this watch would sell pretty well. I mean, come on, we get a damn near 1:1 Graham Googly Eyed Monster Thing, but we don't even have a crappy Breguet on the books? And who looked at that DeWitt and said-- yeah, THAT's what the rep community is crying out for right now! Unlike a lot of other Breguets, I think this watch could be worn as a dress or as a sport watch (with the rubber band) equally well. I just wish someone had plans to at least consider repping this.
  3. For some reason, I thought I had heard (maybe from Taka) that one of the existing movements could be modified to accomodate a big date. Not sure, though. Isn't there a Breitling rep with a big date like that?
  4. I've tried on the gen (which can be yours for the low, low price of about $10,000- $15,000), and the pictures don't do it justice. It's a great looking dress watch, and a pretty good size-- about 39mm, I think. Sucker is thick, too. The SS band has a really interesting mix of textures too:
  5. Dizzy, you'll forgive me if I automatically discount your opinion on this matter. No offense, but when you told me that you still enjoy wearing your MC Hammer Pants out for a "fancy" dinner, I began to seriously question your sense of style.
  6. Funny, but I was always under the misapprehension that if you're going to make a copy of a disc, it should really be, you know, a disc. I guess I have a lot to learn about the whys and wherefores of the Chinese electronic rep industry. And I did actually purchase a couple of fake iPod nanos for about $20. They're very, very basic MP3 players that look like a Nano. Software is totally different. They may be the biggest pieces of garbage I've ever bought. Sure, it's only $20, but for $20, you'd think you could get the thing to actually charge. Well, you'd be wrong.
  7. D'oh! Sorry about that. Consider me suitably and appropriately chastised.
  8. Is that a Super Nintendo cartridge for that "Funstation 3?" Man, that would be awesome.
  9. Basically, here's why the Breguet Marine Big Date should be repped: Because it's frigging awesome. That's why.
  10. Dadog, I think you and I have very similar tastes. First that Vostok, and now the Marine Big Date. I've been asking for a rep of this for about a year, ever since Angus posted something and asked if there would be any interest in purchasing a rep of it. Unfortunately, I've yet to see any indication that any Breguets are coming.
  11. Actually, it's 44mm according to the Vostok website.
  12. Actually, Vostok and Vostok-Europe are completely different (albeit affiliated) companies. Although they share some movements, they have separate lines of watches, different prices, different strategies, different buyers, etc. They're even manufactured in different countries. While Vostok watches are made in Russia, Vostok-Europe watches are made in Lithuania. Here's some interesting background: The Vostok Company was founded in 1942 when one of the Moscow watch-making plants of the First Moscow Watch Factory was evacuated to Chistopol, a small town located on the Kama River in Tatarstan. However, the Company did not begin using the Vostok brand name until the 1960s. Only defense equipment was produced during the war years, but as soon as the war was over the company started making mechanical wrist watches. The company was appointed an official supplier of watches for the Defense Department of the Soviet Union in 1965. In 2004, Vostok Watch Makers began supplying movements to the Koliz Company of Lithuania, makers of the Vostok Europe brand of timepieces. The company "Koliz Vostok Co. Ltd" was founded as a joint venture between the Russian movement- and watch-maker "Vostok Watch Maker Inc." and the Lithuanian enterprise "Koliz Ltd." offers the world market a new generation of automatic watches based on the traditional Russian watch-making technology and new designs from Lithuania. The first collection of the new watch brand Vostok Europe was introduced at Basel, Switzerland in 2004. Note that the Maxim Gorky is under the Vostok Europe line.
  13. Did they give you any idea when they'd ship it or when you can expect to receive it? I want to see this thing so badly that I'm tempted to get on a plane and pick it up for you. Although that would probably defeat the whole "reasonably priced" thing, given that my plane ticket would be more than the watch. I'm dying to see how these look in person. One of my concerns is how it wears. My wrists are dainty and delicate (6.5"), so I can't really wear certain styles of big watches. I can wear a HBB just fine, but a 44mm Pam Luminor just looks like a clown watch on me. So I'm really interested in seeing some wrist shots and maybe a few comparison shots.
  14. Dude, I think you did the right thing in going with Russia2all. In the first place, I don't think these watches are even on the market yet, so that raises the question of how that random ebay seller was listing them more than a week ago. Secondly, he was in Latvia. Third, with Russia2all, you get a 2 year warranty (plus a free crappy watch!). So I wouldn't be too worried about missing that sale.
  15. Man, that is a good deal. Did you get a free watch as well? Looks like that site offers a free Vostok if you spend more than $175.
  16. Dude, you rock the house down. I'm dying to see how this looks on the wrist. How much did you end up paying? Did you use the coupon code discount?
  17. Just to add to that, there's no hack or quick set date on this movement. Low beat rate concerns me a bit, but I like the 32 jewels and 31 hour power reserve. Anyone have any guesses as to whether this is the type of watch that would appreciate in value in the coming years? My own guess is probably not, but I don't know anything about the collectability of Russian watches.
  18. All the more reason for you to pull the trigger! Come on-- you know you want to. And then you'll want to post lots and lots of wrist shots here.
  19. Actually, that's the one I've got my eye on as well. I really dig the black/silver combination. I was reading up on them, and the material is definitely PVD. @JohnG-- I've done some research on the russia2all site, and he seems to be a pretty good seller. Looks like he's an AD for Vostok. He regularly posts to the Russian Watch section of the BDWF forum. Several people have posted good experiences with him.
  20. Oh, I think you do too, dadog. That SS with white dial is calling your name.
  21. Does anyone know about how hard it is to service a Vostok in the States? My only experience with Russian watches was I picked up a few when I was over there in the early 90s. Of the four watches I bought, the longest one lasted six months. The real problem was that, at least at that time, there was no way to get parts for them. I wonder if that's still the case today.
  22. For anyone interested, here's the full International Watch article on Vostok. Very interesting. I had never ever heard of them before. http://www.detentewatches.com/images/shop/...ussiaMTJBRP.pdf
  23. dadog-- great find on that bdwf thread. If I'm reading that thread correctly, if you order from www.russia2all.com and put in the coupon code GORKY15, you'll get a 15% discount. And that's on top of the already pretty steep discount that russia2all has from the other places I've found. I'm inching closer and closer to ordering one of these. And since there are only 999 pieces of each of the colors, I'm thinking I may have to do this sooner rather than later. I know that some people on the board have had some Vostoks. Anyone have any thoughts about them? @ztech-- IW had a really good article on them in that issue with the Clerc on the cover. Can't remember what month, but it was sometime between May and August of this year.
  24. This one? http://www.russia2all.com/maxim-gorky----p...h-preorder.html I'm seriously tempted to place an order, given that this place is about $100 cheaper than the other places I've found, but I know nothing about this website. Anyone know anything about www.russia2all.com?
