  1. "I dunno how they would turn a 2813 into a GMT movement, since it's a date only movement."

The DG 2812 day/date movement was used in earlier GMT models that had non adjustable 24 hour hands. They did basically the same thing to convert them as was done to Eta day/date movements with non adjustable 24 hour hands.

Do not know if 2812 GMT conversions were factory made or 'back room' made. They are reliable as long as the movement is clean and properly oiled to begin with. The swiss Eta 2836/46 non adjustable GMT conversions are dead nuts reliable as long as they are properly c/o.

Non adjustable 24 hour hand movements are more realistic to vintage models.

Yeah, but that's a 2812 D/D not a 2813D only. Previous poster was saying Josh was insisting it was a 2813 in the watch, which clearly it cannot be :-)

  2. No problem Btw - they are actually to put pressure on the gear driving the 24 HR hand, rather than space them. It's not under the plate like the others, so if it's not pressed down it rides up and stops making contact with the calendar gear that's driving it. So it's supposed to put gentle pressure on that gear and hold it in place, using the dial as the source of pressure. So you want a slight bend in the washer to make sure it's contacting the dial and 24hr hand gear at the same time when the dial is on. But not so much pressure that it stops it from turning smoothly - takes a little experimentation Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

  3. Thanku very much for your help. Im going to have extra 1655 parts left over if you need any lmk.

No worries mate, it's been sitting on my shelf in a plastic bubble for a year since I did my build with a straight seconds hand. Glad to pay it forward for someone else who needs it.

  4. the movement for my gmt is a swiss 2846 that i bought from mike on march 2013 . Since i am not a watch repair person i have no idea what hand i would need. The extra parts for this watch that mike mentioned were sent to him in july. Since its now october, This should not even be in the disccussion. I know u been through [censored] but lets get this done so i can post my watch on the thread and finally cross my name off the list.

Its the same hand, 28xx series hand sizes the same. I'm sending the hand off to Mike for your watch so he can complete it (the one with the lume dot - he said that's what you were after)

    Cheers

  5. Why not comment, is it because the second hand that you ordered was to short and wont complete your watch and that unsets up? These are the things you ppl need to realize I have NO CONTROL over. AT ALL. IF anyone has a long posted second hand for a vintage explorer let me or tony know. Also tony if you upset that its taken so long, you need to think about the parts that you bought and the time that has gone by when you bought them and then they where shipped ect. SO IF ANYONE HAS A GMT VINTAGE ROLEX EXPLOERE HAND LET US KNOW ASAP!!!

Also thank you for the positive comment.

Seconds hand for an explorer 2?

    2836?

Pm me gents, it's your lucky day if that's what you're after or you feel like crimping for a 2813.

I have the straight one with no lume dot, and one with a lume dot

Edit:  these are the long posted ones - I had ordered 2 straight ones from ofrei when I did my build, just in case it was too long for the dial/case and I had to clip the end off, I wanted 2 chances to get it right.  It wasn't too long, so I have an extra, as well as the lume dot one it came with.   They are available gratis.

  6. Why? Swapping markers is often easier, plus the markers on the newest dials have thinner surrounds.

Not to mention that proper relume means removing and re adding the markers anyway.

And it's ridiculously easy to do compared to luming properly

  7. If you want to use a gen sized dial you're into the stratosphere of Minh Quy and Phong cases. But then you get to use some really really nice dials. I'm busy twisting the arm of a member here to sell me his. And oh, what a dial it is!!
I was able to use an ingod dial in a 6536 case I got from Andrew - I never actually measured the dial, but his site says they are 26.5s Edit with pic zy5ytypu.jpg Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  8. Ok. Thanks. Im just afraid of damaging the tiny polished area around the lume. To polish it again is something i dont want to do.

Il give something very sharp a try at it.

Yep - that's why I think it's easier to try to get in there then let the acetone work, rather than dig the whole thing out manually.  Less chance of damaging the marker

Sometimes if you can get a chip in there down far enough, it wil actually just dissolve enough around the bottom and edges that the whole lump of lume will fall out.

  9. Well, I wondered about that so I sent Josh and email asking if the 2813 was actually a 3804 and he wrote back and said, "No, it is as advertised on the website."  Also, on Rafflestime website in the ad for the GMT hand for the 3804, he says that it will also fit a 2813.  Confused.  I just got the watch so I may just pull the movement and check it. There aren't any tells from the back side I think.  You must look at the dial side to tell.

I dunno how they would turn a 2813 into a GMT movement, since it's a date only movement.   The modification to a 2836 relies on the day mechanism being used to drive the 24 hour hand.

  10. 2824's don't have the same jumping click thing that 2836s have. The date flipper just turns without jumping, so the click is provided by the date disc teeth and the jumper spring. Small variations of the teeth (remember there are 31 of them) could result in the date flipping at slightly different times every day.

The same does not apply to 2836s.

    consider me informed.  thanks!

  11. If his date change time is varying every day, doesnt that sound to anymore more like a problem with some missing teeth somewhere?   I guess to clarify that OP - if you are setting time, do you hear the CLICK for the datewheel at the exact same time every time (but the wheel might stick a few minutes before flipping) or does the actual date flip click happen at a different time every time?

  12. I do this too, but I spin it using a drill, takes 5 minutes :) I've done a few by hand, and this way is better!

Absolutely better.   Takes a 60 minute job and turns it into a <5 minute job when you mount it on the dremel or a drill.

Plus it has the added bonus of staying round this way, instead of guesstimating when you're doing it by hand

  13. It sounds like you could just shave the OD of the retaining ring a little - sounds like its too big ,yes?   So the bezel is fitting on too tightly.    I had the same issue on my last 1675, using the rep retaining ring (for the 1680 style bezel it came with) , with a WSO bezel.   I just jury rigged a mount to get the retaining ring on my dremel and then sanded the outside a bit, now it turns fine.

  14. well there we go lol no need to try to mod one they already made it lol

That one is just a tarted up 2836

I don't think you could turn the Y3135 into a GMT at any rate (at least not in any reasonably easy way)  - the reason the 2836 is easy to do is because it has the necessary functionality in it already.    (eg; a quickset for day that isn't being used, and can be used to adjust the GMT hand)  - you could add a fourth hand driven off the 3135's calendar wheel maybe (like with the 2836) but there's nothing to wire up to for adjusting it.

  15. I visited a local AD to check out the new gen blue YM dial... While I have not seen the blue dial YM rep in person, from the pictures it looks to have a darker hue. The gen really shines and reflects light. What I would be really interested in seeing rep'd would be the black YM dial, now that would be a real looker. Should be fairly easy to rep?

there's no gen black dial. Just black mother of pearl, which is really not easy to get right. Every mop rep I've seen is kaka
