  1. Forgot to say. - the other tell which the bottom red circle was referring to in the last picture, is that the numerals on the dial are very slightly different in places.
  2. Thanks guys. Great to hear that. Here are some pics taken from my SLR camera. I have not had the rep of this to look at yet but looked closely at all the pics I could find. They have done a way better than standard job of cloning it. I can't beleive the rep even has the screws in the bezel. With a couple of modifications the rep would be pretty close to 1:1. I've outlined some of the 'tells' I've noticed so far, so that solutions can start to be thought about by those reading this who have the means to do that. Because i dont have the rep, i have relied on photos which leaves a margin for error. I have listed some other possible 'tells' i got from looking at the photos of the reps, but these may be wrong, and just not have come out in the photos I was looking at. I put the Superocean down next to my DSSD and noticed the case is similar. Top down view there are similarities in the case to the submariner also. Lovely domed crystal. Drool, I can't find a side view on any websites to see if the rep has a domed crystal. I would be very impressed if the reps have a 1:1 crystal. And the fitting matched Domed crystal has lens effect like the DSSD. when looking side on at the crystal you can see magnification effect. The magnification distortion can only be noticed from an acute angle though. As soon as you look at it from an angle a few degrees higher, it looks as if the dome has disappeared. The dial is an excellent piece of design. After looking at the rep, Another couple of tells I noticed were the slight glossiness on the rep dial. The gen dial reflects no light at all. The. Colour stays even. Doesn't shine. The small logo on the dial very detailed. Markers are very chunky. AR has subtle blue tint Caseback nice. The lume glow is totally contained and doesn't reflect on any part of the watch, the rehaut, Or glossy inner edge of bezel etc. That's amazing. Here's the rep image I used as reference for the 'tells' The main tell is the slight gloss properties to the dial. This results in a gradint of colour round the angled edge of the dial, which is lighter colour fading to darker. The gen has a true matt dial that keeps thr same colour hue. Also, the dial markers are reflecting on the metal on the inner edge of the bezel - that's what the top left circle is referring too. A lot of reps have this problem though. B
  3. Thanks guys. The AR has a Blue tint actually. But only when it's under direct light. Most of the time it has that 'invisible crystal' look of good clear AR where the lack of any reflection makes it appear as if there is no glass on the watch. I'm just taking some pics with my SLR and will upload shortly.
  4. Hi all Not posted on the Breitling forum before. Hope this is useful I cannot gurantee this but I went to my local AD today (they sell Rolex, Breiitling, Omrga, Tag) And was told by their sales exec that Breitling had just anounced a 15% pricedrop on all their current models. Breitling will start selling some new ranges soon which will use their own new in-house movements. (including their own in-house Quartz movt range that will be priced starting at £4000. Don't know if they will sell well) I went into the AD looking to buy An Omega Speedmaster. So, he had no Reason to make this up. On several of the gen watch forums' buyers' guides they advise to aim to pay 15% below the sticker price for Breitling watches from the AD's. (visiting several dealers with internet printouts of cheapest prices, playing dealers off against eachother) Unfortunately for me the AD near me is the only one for miles around and is known for charging maximum full price on all watches. But if you lived in London for example, This could possibly mean up to 30% off the window price. If your considering a gen Breitling now would be a great time to start looking. While I was at the AD after trying on the Speedmaster, which looked and felt eerily similar to the rep. I noticed several of their Breitlings (with 15% off) were now around the price of the Speedmaster. I tried a few and my clear favorite was the SuperOcean 2. 5000ft. It was luming up whilst under the bright lights of the jeweler. Amazing lume. I got a price drop from £3250 to £2600. A little over 15%. And I didn't need much more persuading than that. Heres the new addition to my family. I think she's a beaut. Took these pics on phone. very ropey quality when light get dim I never really was too keen on this watch as a rep. But trying it on in real life. The idea behind it and the design all became clear. I hope this has been useful and you enjoyed the eye candy. Im getting my digital SLR camera out tomoz. If anyone is interested to see more of this watch I can post some decent pics. Let me know.
  5. Sorry guys but you are forgetting some of the fundamentals of running a business here. The watch price is calculated on all costs the company incur in producing it. Including manufacturing, (and aslo marketing advertising etc. Staff wages, office space etc.) You cannot pick and choose which costs you are going to leave out in your evaluation as they are each as important as eachother. You can't compare on costs of raw materials because without the machines, staff, processes and management your evaluation of the raw materials cost should be $0 as it comes from the earth like everything else, so is basically free. I saw a post on this on another forum that puts what I am trying to say more eloquently, see below. "I am sure that the costs are quite high actually. If you have seen the videos on Rolex.com most of the machinery seen in those videos are "one-of" applications costing tens of millions of dollars in infrastructure. Every bit of that will factor into the base cost of every watch. That doesn't even touch the talent and manpower they employ full time. Combine that with the 14 months it takes to manufacture a movement, and I think most Rolex's should cost more. P.S. It costs Rolex more on the outlay to make a steel watch than a gold one. When 904L was first proposed inside the company, the technology for the massive 250 ton press used to stamp out the Oyster cases did not even exist and needed to be made from scratch! This is why most manufactures do not use 904L. As quoted from the Rolex USA product training manual; "All Rolex movements are completely manufactured in-house and have an average value of several thousand dollars. Rolex continually compares each part produced with a "perfect" computer generated image of that part. Each movement takes 14 months to produce. Over 200 technicians will work on the movement effectively combining "High Tech" with "High Touch"." " I think it's really sad the slating rolex is getting in this thread. Why on earth would you buy a rep rolex if you wouldn't buy a gen. I am not being impolite or trying to start a flame war or whatever , that just doesn't compute in my brain. If you don't like Rolex then just do as you say and remove the trademarking off your rep. Still a very nice functional timepiece and you are now bein true to yourself.
  6. Hi guys. Been looking for an AP rep for a while but whilst I am saving up for a gen Submariner I am trying to avoid Buying any high end reps and I haven't been able to find an AP (with 28.8k bph which is a must for me) that wasn't a 7750 and wasn't over $250. So when I spotted this 2836-2 for under $200 I jumped at the chance. It looks and feels very nice, beeing an AP Noob though I would appreciate some feedback on it's quality of replication as I don't have an AP dealer near me so have never seen one in the flesh. Thanks
  7. Thank you very much for that list. That's a great help. And thank you for the advice.
  8. Ok, thanks. That's very helpful. This is from a different dealer, one of the trusted ones, so I presumed it would be much better. I did decide to save up, your right. Must learn from ones mistakes. When I have the '$ back from the refunds of my recent crash course in Pam buying I'll put it all towards one premium version.
  9. If it's just a 21j version or 'asian automatic' - these have been available at that price since the start of reps.
  10. Hi. Thanks for taking time to write that. It Is quite frustrating how they have made the effort to get the tiny laser etched logo on the saphire glass yet haven't even got the font correct for the date. I am still learning, although I bought my first rolex when i was 21 and I'm now well into my thirties, it shows that it's worth putting the time into familiarizing oneself with the certain features that constitute a good copy. I'm really interested in your timeshop comment. I presume their 45usd watch is not a-2836? Is it 28,800bph like the noobmariner?
  11. Yes. I have asked for refund but the dealers factory are wanting me to point out the differences between this one and the 111m ultimate. FFS. They seem to think it's close enough to be acceptable!
  12. I really appreciate all the suggestions about the best versions to buy but most of those listed were out of my price range. I am considering this one. I know it's an older rep but it's very good value.; PAM 312 1950 3 DAYS LEATHER ASIAN SG 35J AUTO (presume that's a typo for 25j)? Full info here: http://v.yupoo.com/photos/trevorwatch/albums/2152984/?style=detail I should be able to get it for 150. Is this worth it or better to save up some more $ for a better one. Thanks
  13. I thought it looked a bit odd colour! Man who the hell is my source getting these from. Looks like they are building them out of leftover parts. Guess they are all going back for exchange then.
  14. I ordered two Noob factory subs from a different seller than I got my last noobmariners. They arrived with very well done plastic wrapping round the bracelets that was much stronger than the usual noobs yet much easier to remove. On each end of the bracelet was a surplus plastic tag that had been added a logo too. Simply JBL JBL JBL. I presume these aren't from Noob factory? The subs have several differences to Noob ones. They have the updated bracelet, the laser etched crown (which is a solid filled etching similar to gen) it was very hard to find. The sub is also slightly larger than the Noob version and is a bit heavier. Here's some pics of the standard black bezel sub. What do you guys thin? And what is JBL? Thanks
