  1. Mike what the hell are you going on about, I didn't understand a word of that!!!

For the record everyone, as mentioned earlier, Mike (MLinNYinHD) has repaid the money Paypal took back following a chargeback. As far as I am concerned the matter is closed; I am not out of pocket since Mike reimbursed what PayPal took from my account.

What doesn't make sense is why a chargeback was raised in the first place but I have my money back so I'm not too fussed now.

Mike, as for calling you a scammer I apologise BUT what I would say is that I was (at the time) justified (what conclusion would you draw if you sold something, tracked the delivery, received confirmation that the buyer was happy and then 7 months later they raised a chargeback?).

I believe in fast, to the point action. It is our duty as members here to look out for each other. After all the goings on with that cretin "watchsmith" who stole $30k of watches and blamed everyone but himself I didn't want anyone else to walk into another scam. So, if this post stopped someone entering into a transaction which could have seen them ripped off then good.

BUT... to reiterate, I don't understand the cause of the chargeback but the situation is resolved. MLinNYinHD has not scammed me, I was wrong and I apologise. Mods, feel free to remove this thread if Mike wishes and you see fit.

  2. Well I still don't really understand what happened but the chargeback went through and I lost the money MLinNYinHD paid for my item (I still don't know why a chargeback was raised by Paypal and why they didn't stand by their Seller Protection, I did everything by the book).

MLinNYinHD paid me back the original money that Paypal took via Western Union so I am currently all square. Confused by the situation but at least not out of pocket.

  3. Thanks man, it's a strange twist, just trying to get to the bottom of it via PM with member concerned. It's logical (to me at least) to raise the issue to everyone to prevent any more dodgy transactions until I can report back and say, "my mistake, crossed wires, he's a good guy".

I've drawn Mike's (MLinNYinHD) attention to this thread so he knows I'm not messing about, I want my money back. Simple.

  4. So, after reading a long thread from Sgtguk back in July when he bought a watch from MLinNYinHD which never arrived (http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/160996-problem-with-member-mlinnyinhd-warning-to-other-members/?fromsearch=1) I thought it was strange. MLinNYinHD had bought two watches from me in April 2013 with no issue, seemed like a good guy. Then MLinNYinHD sent Sgtguk a refund and it appears everyone jumped the gun. Sure enough Mike is still active on the forum, last active today.

However... this morning I received an email from PayPal to say that MLinNYinHD has raised a chargeback and so my Paypal is frozen at -$540.

The watches were received fine by MYinNYinHD, I still have the full message trail and printed tracking details for what seemed to be a perfect trade.

If this is a genuine mistake I apologise but after 7 months I can only assume the guy is a scammer. I don't believe he has used a stolen Paypal account as the delivery address matched his Paypal account. I also don't believe it is a stolen card because who wouldn't notice $540 missing for 7 months and why notice it at that point?

Mike, if this is a genuine mistake say so here, otherwise, everyone please be aware that you aren't safe from these scammers either buying or selling.

  5. Mike, regardless of what you may think at this point in time the thread was started to help your situation for both you and for members of our community...

Exactly right. If a certain supplier had been better organised and more professional in his work he wouldn't have needed SGTguk to spend time playing secretary.

Whether MD recognises that this thread was needed to fill in the gaps in communication is irrelevant... it was. The only reason MD doesn't like the content of this thread is because it contains the opinions of lots of people from varying backgrounds with varying degrees of experience of watches, repairs, forums and business.

In fact this thread is a great bit of market research for you MD and the next repairer who fancies a chance.. I've picked out the key points:

    1) There is a definite market for rep repairs

    2) The RWG community is extremely trustworthy

    3) Communication is key; radio silence will kill your business

    4) Keep your personal issues personal, this is business

    5) Don't bite the hand that feeds you (slagging-off reps and rep owners isn't smart business!)

Maybe you can learn and move on, make some changes and reap the rewards. The emphasis is on "learning" though, the hundreds of comments here collectively show that your opinions and actions are wrong. If you refuse to accept this it shows arrogance and immaturity.

MD and future watchmakers take note, there is plenty of business here, we are crying out for your services BUT you need to meet our expectations not the other way around.

  6. Placed an order yesterday and received an email today saying:

"Thank you for your new order.

We found that your order XXXXXXXXXXX did pay with your credit card.

To safeguard your interests and ours, please confirm whether this order is placed by you or with your instruction and need you to provide clearly photos of front and back of your credit card, In order to protect the security of your card, you could just show the front 6 number and the last 4 numbers of the card ID and show us the your signature on your card back. Please notice that the signature should be shown clearly. You may check the picture below for reference."

(The order number has been blanked out by me, the email is correct). This sounds dodgy, I've never been asked this by a retailer before.

Any previous customers had the same happen?

    Dom
