  1. paypal is the safest in terms of protection of cc data as the seller never has access to your details at any point (the same applies to other e-wallets if accepted by the td). of course it doesn't mean that you are protected if there are problems with goods, etc. the next safest is a payment process that redirects to a well known payment provider (worldpay, secpay, sagepay, etc). in this instance a major (secure) payment authoriser processes the payments. the td will have access to some or all of your card details via the providers admin system to authorise refunds, etc. this could be abused, but is not likely when the dealer is trusted. the least safe is an integrated payment system, in this instance the payment takes place on the td's website and is authorised behind the scenes with a payment gateway. this is the smoothest transaction experience for the customer, but it's least secure as it depends on the security of the td's web site (far less than a dedicated payment gateway) and in some instances your card details will be stored on the td's web server. for a hacker compromising a server like this is far easier than hitting a major provider.
  2. it definitely used to be rolex, easily spotted with loose bands and peeling gold that was a long time ago though, now i mostly spot pams.
  3. i think i can stretch to an abbreviation amnesty too liking ichs, chs and sel, i would never have guessed those...
  4. thanks, i'll get there slowly!
  5. ok, so i've not been here long and i've managed to pick up some acronyms, but there are a lot used here and not all are obvious. so i have... SS - Stainless Steel PAM - Panerai hfac - a rep factory in china? AR - Anti Reflective Coating PD - Porsche Design Ti - Titanum QC - Quality Control TD - Trusted Dealer GEN - Genuine REP - Replica VC - Vacheron Constantin are they right? and what are these AD PVD KB WC and what others should i look out for??
  6. i think the margin is interesting. i wonder how much the gens would be if they weren't all in a cartel. i.e if they felt the need to compete on price. my feeling is that most gens could be reduced in price by 60%+ and still run at a profit. this would stunt growth r&d, etc, unless sales went up accordingly. with reps going up in price i'm thinking that the same pretty much applies.
  7. interesting topic this, it's kind of at the heart of why people like their watches. personally i really like some of the porsche design watches, especially the flat 6 chrono which i have and the world timer i have on order. i appreciate them because of their design and their chunky sporty engineered look, the good ones really have something about them. though i have owned a 911 in the past the name does not bring anything to the table for me. if the same watches were made by another brand i'd be just as interested, because imho they look and function great.
  8. chuck norris is so quick he has his own time zone

  11. hi, just discovered rwg a few days a go and i'm loving the enthusiasm for watches here, especially the modding of reps, which is something i never considered before. a bit about me - i've been into watches since i was given a pocket watch by a family friend when i was around 4 years old. since then i just love watching mechanical watch mechs. i've built up a reasonable collection over the years, but i'm sure nothing compared to the guys on here, a mixture of rep (tag monaco, panerai), gen (fortis spacematic, poljot sturmanskie) and nos (record/longine, eterna). i'm just about to make my first transaction via this board with mary from watch international for this watch which i have lusted over since i saw the gen a couple years ago! anyway good to meet you all. ben
