  1. I think when you start paying too much attention to post count, you start to get threads like this... You get the picture. Boards like RG may have a lot more activity as of late, but the content is suffering just as much as it is here.
  2. Lani, I think a lot of it has to do with the following two factors; First, the economic downturn has forced a lot of guys to cut back, or in some cases, stop their purchases of new watches. Its really hard to write or contribute anything new when you don't have anything new to write about. Second, and I think this is a major issue, is that rep manufacturers have come such a long way in the past few years in providing watches that are really 99% in comparison to the gen. We have become spoiled, and I have seen an attitude form amongst newer members in where they wont even consider a watch that has anything more that the slightest flaw. When I started in this hobby the best watch you could get was probably about 80% in comparison to the gen, and a lot of dialogue was generated in pointing out exactly what the flaws were, and coming up with methods as to how they could be modded. The UPO was a perfect example. I've seen countless threads about substituting genuine parts, all very interesting stuff. The watches today are almost perfect right out of the box. You don't need an expert to point out that the only flaw on a graham diver is that the seconds needle is orange instead of red. The fix to that issue is equally as mundane. When the Skyland was released there were literally dozens of posts from early buyers, and the one or two minor flaws were easily picked out. When I eventually picked up my Skyland, I wrote a very comprehensive review, but I've yet to post it, simply because I've got nothing new to add to what has already been said a thousand times. It seems to me that we have seen a shift in purpose. From being a site that provided useful information that aided members both before and after a purchase, to being a site that simply aids members in their purchasing decisions.
  3. Yep, that'd be the Planet Ocean Chrono. Why don't you take some time to learn something about our dealers and do some shopping for yourself. You'll learn a lot and have a bit of fun as well
  4. Gotta hit the "negative" button on that one. I really don't no what you wanted mate? You asked for the experts to give their opinion, and we did. If you just wanted us to make you feel warm and fuzzy, you should have asked, but you would learn nothing that way. Although it still seems that you have learned nothing
  5. As for the watch itself, the subdial spacing is too tight and the function of the subdials is different from the gen. The date window is too far inward and the font and font color are wrong. Its very difficult to critique the cheaper quartz versions as there is generally more wrongs than rights. Having said that, its fairly decent and the quartz movement should ensure you years of trouble free wear.
  6. I've always loved the look of these on a black skin strap! http://www.jpc8118.com/00000000blnv10002-navitimer-fgle-black-stick-asia-7750-28800-p-7010.html
  7. I wonder if the 7750 movement they are using in the new UPO Chrono would fit? It's supposed to emulate a 2892, but who knows if the spacing is perfect? Of course the dial feet wouldn't fit either.
  8. Congrats to LG! And thanks for a fun contest Lani.
  9. A cleaner version of my last entry...
  10. That's what it's all about SC68, having fun. Great work mate!
  11. Nope, uses an ETA 2892A2, or as it is called by Breitling "Cal 41".
  12. Wont work. The gen does not use a 7753 movement. Subdial spacing is all wrong.
  13. Are reps produced in sweatshops that pay their employees next to nothing? Probably so. But in all likelihood, so is every piece of clothing or pair of shoes that you buy in the local mall. And when you think about it, the mark up on reps is far more reasonable than that of Hollisters or Nike. You also have to remember that those under paid employees may be able to put some food on the table with what little they make. Obviously, if they had any more lucrative alternatives they would take them. So, I feel no guilt on that aspect. As to the original poster's question. I will always wear my reps in public, as I am honest about what they are. It is only when you try to perpetuate a lie, that you have to worry about the perceived value of a watch. Because I am honest about my reps, I have no problem wearing a watch that may have a perceived value of tens, or hundred of thousands of dollars.
  14. There are two versions available... The old manual wind Seagull based version And a 7750 based version Lots of problems with both of these, most notably, wrong subdial spacing, and the lack of date on the Seagull, and the wrong color date on the 7750. Like the Fighters version, the case should be brushed, but it comes polished on both models. Here's the gen for comparison
  15. Okay, one last set for me And my previous entries... Set 1 Set 2
  16. BTW, I never realized moonies had an anti-magnetic cover. I know some versions have a display back, so do they just leave the cover off, or is it just some models that have this feature?
  17. Great story, and congrats! Wear it well!
  18. That's one beautiful movement! Nice shots. Now stop it, you are making me jealous!
  19. Congrats Pug! I guess we all knew this day would come at some point, glad you got such a good deal on it!
  20. Here are some tweaks of my first entry...
  21. That doesn't sound simple. Sounds terminal Send it back.
  22. Sorry for the extra posts, cant seem to edit my old ones... Anyway, just tweaking these a bit...
