  1. Yep, a top notch guy with a lot of really informative posts. It was a shame what happened with him.
  2. Very Panerai-esque in appearance. Great pick-up man!
  3. One of the finest people I have come across on any board, and I really mean that. Congrats BT, and a job well done Taka
  4. I've got three of them! Love the PO as well. Here is my Ziggified Silix version on rubber
  5. I've seen a few of these thing and IMO they look bloody ridiculous. I honestly laughed the first time. Looks like a clock on a strap! I like big watches but theses are just too big.
  6. As I've said many times before, I could not commit to a monthly donation, no matter what the size. I chose to make my donation to the community by writing reviews, guides, etc. I can guarantee you that I have put far more than $60 in man hours into doing write-ups this year alone! I can tell you that the extra effort that I have pit in to my reviews has encouraged other members to up the quality of their reviews as well. Guys like Lani and Seadweller are writing quality stuff now, and I'm amazed at the amount of effort that they are putting in to these things. I am also quite sure that at some point these guys have read one of my pieces and have been motivated to push the envelope. I'm proud of my contributions, and I am proud of theirs! It takes many things to run a forum. You can have all the paying sponsors you want, but you need people to contribute content on a regular basis or you have nothing. My cash contribution is on the way as well, as I know these are hard times, but I have no interest in changing my status. Charity should be a private thing. You give what you can afford, whether it be $100 or nothing at all. One's dedication to the community should not be judged by the size of his wallet.
  7. There is no reason to feel embarrassed Corgi. I know that you contribute in more valuable ways, simply by being here frequently and keeping the conversations going. More important and much more time consuming than any cash donation could ever be. Keep up the good work mate! I have no problem If guys just can't afford to contribute. I'm in the same boat. My watch collection is not substantial, and new acquisitions are infrequent. Its guys that are constantly buying new stuff who are not supporters that bother me a bit. But they may have there reasons as well.
  8. BTW, if you want to encourage supporters, only allow access to the "Member Rep Sales" section to paid supporters. Decrease the yearly amount to a nominal figure, say $30, and watch the numbers rise. In my experience, a good portion of our members are here solely to troll for cheap purchases. IMO that would be the real plumb!
  9. We'd have to see what movement is in the UTC. Perhaps there is a similar sized 24hr version available. Those are quartz I believe and likely only worth a couple of dollars.
  10. @T - I've just transfered some funds to my account and will send as soon as they have cleared. I don't really care if you upgrade my membership or not, as I have little concern about what other people think about my status. I think that "supporter" badge only causes issues between the "haves" and the "have nots" anyway. Consider it a donation, as everybody should, and remember that I don't need anything extra in return. Cheers, Andreww
  11. T, is there a way to make contributions via PP on a non scheduled basis? I could probably help out, but just cant do the monthly thing for various reasons. There are times when funds are available however, and I'd be happy to chip in. PM me with details.
  12. That would be a reworked 7750. From all reports its a good movement with properly jeweled transfer gears.
  13. To properly do the bracelet you should remove it and put it in some sort of shallow container. Submerse it in WD40 and let soak for at least an hour. Remove it and rinse and wash with soapy water. Rinse with water and re-attach to the watch.
  14. First let me say that to even consider comparing a rep to a gen is a little bit silly. The gen will always be of a much higher quality. I do see how you could be disappointed with the weight and feel of the entry level watch that you bought however. When you compare it to the near perfect rep of a $5000 to $10000 watch, it will definitely feel lighter and less substantial. Having a quartz movement will make the gen feel lighter. But, make no mistake about it, the gen watch is made to a much higher standard than our reps will ever achieve. I feel the same way and will likely never be able to afford a gen that has enough substance to make me happy. So I'll stick with reps until I hit the lottery
  15. The Portuguese is one of the nicest looking IWCs!
  16. I agree, I've got an Asian SFSO and an UPO Lite that I use for swimming. I've got no interest in getting any of my other more valuable watches anywhere near the pool.
  17. I remember a member who not that long ago ordered an UPO and paid $50 extra to have it waterproofed. When the watch arrived it had zero threads in the crown tube and would not come close to screwing down. So explain to me how the dealer's watchsmith managed to waterproof it and how he got it to pass a 50m pressure test?
  18. He's also got this TAG up for auction as well. One crap pic plus one gen pic leads me to believe its a fake as well http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-GENTS-TAG-HE...1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. LOL, glad you enjoyed that Rolexman! Actually my reason for dubbing that watch the UPO "Lite" was that the watch was identical to the UPO but for the movement. IMO there has not been a "Lite" watch since as the now substitute mineral crystals, plastic spacers, and drop the AR. I really would like to see cheaper "Lite" versions in the future and more expensive (true) ETA versions. But you never know. Dealers seem pretty comfortable misleading us about movements and there seems to be very little concern from members about it, so thing are likely to go down that path.
