For your info guys, Angus proposed me a refund of $50 to compensate for the bad superlume and AR. It could be more but it's better than nothing. Throughout this transaction Angus was very prompt and I'll certainly buy from him in the future. Athan

Great piece of info, cheers Mike. How do you open the case back? Do you use Ofrei's rubber ball type or do you have the proper PAM case back opener? Athan

Thanks for your reply Stormtooper4, I guess that if V wasn't there with me I wouldn't have noticed that the crown stands out. Also thanks for your tips. Some work, like cutting the stem seems difficult to do by myself. I'll go for the rep friendly watchmaker option. Athan

Hi to all, I'm sure that some of you guys remember my late adventures with the police car... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=77670&st=0 Now it's time for the review of the watch received. First looks and feeling was (and still is) great! The watch is the one with the Asian dagger swan neck UNITAS 6497 movement at 21600vph. The movement runs great and has a power reserve of 57 hours!!!, although the swan neck lays on the top of the pin and not beside it!!! I ordered the watch with all the mods available from the site, e.g. cannon pin fix, superlume dial and hands, scratch proof sapphire with AR, all for US$278 shipped to my door. I was also promised that a water resistance test will be performed. If you read my previous topic you'll see that the dealer failed to send me the pictures agreed before shipping, and got the delivery address wrong. After a couple of weeks I received the watch in a nice package I unscrewed(!) the package and I real beauty was there laying in my hands. The very next day I had the great luck and honor having the watch inspected by V of the RWG forum himself! THANK YOU V We met in order to fit his truly amazing new crown guard on the watch. We soon realized that this just couldn't happen cause the crown was wrongly installed and was standing out, even when the lever was fully pressed. Filing the lever is out of the question cause it's obvious that the problem occurs due to the wrongly positioned crown. Obviously this should also effect the water resisting capabilities of the watch. So I'm not taking it for swimming this time! Apart from that V made some very useful additional comments. The cannon pin mod is correct. The glass is a sapphire but not with a real AR coating - just a bluish film applied on the glass - nothing to do with the real thing. He also spotted that the superlume is very poorly done and the comparison we made to the lume of his gen made my watch looking silly! The strap that comes with the watch is also very poor, but that I was aware of beforehand. In conclusion the watch is a great time piece with a super looking case and dial (of course with the wrong L Swiss Made L). Now I have to take it for some proper superluming and AR coating, fix the crown and install V's new crown guard I'm very happy having bought this watch although I'm in contact with the dealer for some compensation, since the superlume and AR mods are not properly done. Have a nice day, Athan

Will Panerai Supplant Rolex as the new High School Graduation Gift
athan replied to Watchmeister's topic in The Panerai Area
Hey guys! I was the 16 year old twerp running around wearing my PAM111H from Angus!!! And there was actually a guy "yelling 1/2 way down the isle telling his wife.. Look!! He's wearing a Panerai!" :D :D PS OK, I maybe don't look like a 16 year old, but I certainly feel like one wearing my reps -
Thank you hikeUSA, for the very helpful bits of info. Any special attention while greasing? Somewhere in here I think I red that one needs to be very careful and not over-grease the gaskets? Athan PS I always liked to watch the ladies under your signature. It's amazing how my eye goes directly to the PAM instead of looking at the action... ;-)

[ It's also worth putting on a pair of dish-washing gloves, and using your thumbs to make sure the caseback is screwed down tight. If it's loose, thumb pressure will be enough to get it waterproof (well, as long as the rest of the watch is )

Many thanks TeeJay

athan replied to neozzr's topic in General Discussion
Maybe True though Do you honestly believe that the Chinese rep factories actually import gen ETA movements from Switzerland, in order to put them inside replicated swiss watches? I don't. And how would the gen Swiss watch manufacturers, like Omega, would react to that? These could be some informative threads: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...mp;#entry465835 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...e+eta+movements -

athan replied to neozzr's topic in General Discussion
According to many senior members there are no true Swiss movements available with CN rep watches. Your best bet is to get a rep with a good CN clone of a Swiss movement... Day by day I believe them more and more. Athan -
Silly question, what is an EOD?
-
Thanks RLudlowe, I'm only into raki diving so I don't think this would cause any problems to my PAM!!! Are there any reps withstanding any diving - I just ask you out curiosity...???
-
I don't know about your reps my friend, but when I bought my MBK 1665 GW, Narikaa told me I'm better-off not to shower
-
Big SORRY, these won't fit your 26mm watch. Athan

Have you tried the ZULU 24MM Series? at: http://www.broadarrow.net/maratac.htm Athan

Hi to all!! Couple of days ago a ordered a PAM111H from Angus. He told me that the watch will be waterproof tested for swimming and shower. Does anybody have any experience on that? I'm always near water... Any recommendations? Athan

Many thanks Athan

This is a very nice looking watch!! Wear it well my friend! Where did you get the strap? Did it come together with the watch? Athan

Test: Panerai Luminor Daylight Chrono 196
athan replied to Seadweller4000's topic in The Panerai Area
Thank you so much for your great review. I feel so lucky being with this forum!! Athan -
Thanks for this great review!!! Also for me the most obvious and easy to spot flaws are: 1) The lack of AR coating under the cyclops 2) The wrong alignment of the rolexrolexrolex on the rehaut. On the gen's dial every second line corresponds to one of the rolexrolexrolex letters on the rehaut. go to http://www.rolex.com/en/index.jsp#/en/xml/...=M116710LN-0001 and press: enlarge view. Again many thanks for this great review!!! Athan

Very informative my friend!!! Thanks! I'm a bit stupid though (and a bit more sometimes :-) The good one is the one on the left on the second picture, or the right? I'm comfused. Cheers

Thank you all guys for your replies! I have checked this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOKcsnljESE and it seems that the seconds hand is sweeping and not ticking. DSN also told me that his 111h has a sweeping seconds hand. Lets hope that it will be a nice and lucky watch at the end!
-
Thanks for your very scientific reply Would that mean that it should have a smooth continuous sweeping (even with lesser steps) or a tick-tack quartz like motion?
