  1. i've heard some swiss made quartz movements has their seconds hand(s) sweeping instead of ticking.. how is this possible with quartz ? are these movements rare? or main stream used ?
  2. i was thinking of getting a sapphire crystal for my breitling rep. that has mineral crystal, and take it to a local watchmaker so he can replace the cheap crystal with the sapphire. can a local "ordinery" watchmaker can do such a thing with quality? also, where i can get shapphire crystals? i've heard there are web sites that are selling these not too expensive. thanks daytona il
  3. I've heard some quartz movements (e.g. ISA 8162/220) has jewels, like in mechanical movements.. what i don't understand, does a quartz movement can benefit from jewels in some ways? or is it just a gimik ? daytona il
  4. lol.. every one with it's own preferences, to me it is looking nice well, i have got it for $80 inc. world-wide shipping.. so it is ok.. not expensive.. i hope it will be durable, although anyway i dont plan on treating it rough.. only gentle use.. about the movement, some say its swiss, some other say japanese.. i hope swiss? it suppose to be one of the ISA mvmnts i believe.. with the date at 4 and chronograph features.. daytona il
  5. hi, its been a long long time since ive been here last time.. but im back well, i got my automatic replicas, which i LOVE ! i was looking for a "simple" dress watch, which will not be a rep this time.. that will also not be expensive, to use as my "ordinery days" watch.. now i am about to get a Croton Chronograph watch like in the photo.. it suppose to have a swiss quartz chrono movement, altough i can be sure about it.. it might be a japan chrono as well.. does anybody had any experience with these watches? any info will be much appreciated! thanks Watch Features: * All Stainless Steel Case & Band * Elegant Stainless Steel w/ Black Rubber Adjustable Band * Analog with Silver Glow in Dark Hands & Markers * Sharp Black Face * Three Eye True Chronograph * Red Sweep Second Hand * Date at "4" Position * Precision Swiss Quartz Movement * Quality Parts * 5 ATM - 50 m - 165 ft - Water Resistant * Domed Scratch Resistant Mineral Crystal * Guaranteed 100% Authentic Croton Watch * Brand New - Never Worn - In Elegant Croton Case * Manufacturer Limited Lifetime Warrantee photo: http://images.marketworks.com/fullView.asp...118ssbk-v3a.jpg yeah i know , its a quartz lol... little mercy :] daytona il
  6. yayyy! the forum is back i've been waiting for that so much.. i need a little advice.. i met a guy who is selling his fathers watch collections... not reps... but gen watches he had collected over years.. he has some automatic watches, as well as russian automatics.. probably most of them older timepieces. what do you think about russian automatic movements? or overall older mechanical watches? how are older watches? do they have the "special quality that have dissapeared through the years" like all fathers and grandfathers say? i'm intersted in owning one or two vintage timepieces.. i must mention that these are probably older built watches from about 10-15 years ago.. more or less.. any help appreciated have a great weekend ya all!
  7. thanks for your help! i wear my reps almost everyday, but not all day long.. sometimes only half a day, sometimes all day... depends.. i was looking at the $188 sub from perfect-clones, it has swiss ETA movement, and looking pretty decent for the price.. i'm interested in purchasing one of these.. the $450+ perfect sub seems sweet... but too pricey for me (for now anyways) out of all mods, there are 2 mods that i could like to add to that which are: - waterproofing - servicing how much could that add up to the actual $188 sub ? also, i'm all the time thinking about the fact that maybe while water-proofing a rep (which is a professional task which includes disassembling some parts and then assembling them back) something will go wrong, like after getting it back, suddenly something will happen, either to movement functioning, watch look (something not put in %100 back) and etc.. is that concern is possible? or the pros do it so good the rep will look & function %100 perfect after modding it water-proofing it. your help is much appreciated! have a great day! d.b
  8. i hate these scammers!! it's isnt right to charge insane prices on reps that suppose to cost less then half that .. it's like stealing money from a customer $425 for a beginner sub ? damn d.b
  9. hi it's something alot of people bug about, sorry that i'm going to do that my self too, it's coz at non of the posts it have staight, detailed answers.. i own a "cheap" sub with japanese movement... and i already think it aint worth any modding.. and i figured out it will be better for me in the near future to invest in a proper rep, and mod it.. or maybe pay a little more and get a pre-modded rep right "out-of-the-box" my question is, is that rolex "PERFECT" submariner from perfect-clones.com worth the extra $200 ? link @ http://perfect-clones.com/rlss10005-perfec...362-p-1045.html is that the closest to gen rep available ? or there are more mods to be taken on the watch to make it perfect? i mean, he has a sub for $188 with the same ETA Swiss mvmt.. and i belive the extra cost is for the mods taken on the watch, does they worth it? i mean, a waterproofing mod is super-nice! so is the mvmnt pre-servicing, and the crown guards matched to gen size.. and so are the other mods etc.. but it that worth the $$$ ? or is there a better take for the same bucks? any advice will be appreciated. thanks in advance! d.b
  10. in case i would like to have my sub for a glass mod..where can i purchase a brand new gen rolex submariner sapphire glass? and how much it should cost? and i mean, a real gen part.. not one of these "aftermarket faked stuff" that alot of people are trying to sell as gen for like $20.. and is matching the crown guards size to a gen suppose to be an expensive mod to do? i believe it involves working with a dremmel and working side by side with a gen sub watch \ case in order to match sizes.. what about waterproofing a sub rep that is not fully water proofed? what are the costs? have a great weekend ya all d.b
  11. thanks alot! you did a great overview for me! the watch is shipping, so i cant have other angles of photos yet.. yes, it isnt one of the ETA Swiss movement type rep... i know it probably has some cheaper jap movement, this is why before getting the watch i already know there might be flaws. i'm getting this as a gift from a friend so i dont mind its a cheap, i need to thank him :] how much do you think a "modding" for the watch will cost me? a mod like some of the items you have offered, to make it look as close to perfect? i know there are $190 ETA subs that probably comes much better looking right "out-of-the-box", so i would like to know if that cheaper rep worth modding thanks for your help! d.b
  12. good evening i'm new here, and a beginner with the replica watch scene i've heard alot of great opinions about this great forum, and i hope i'll enjoy it and learn alot from it d.b
  13. (this is a post i posted on another watch forum with so far zero feedback, so i thought i'de post it over here too to get some help...as i registered to this forum too and both are AAA+) hi you all, sorry for the noob post.. i'm a beginner in the rep. world.. i was looking for some advice.. what do you think about this submariner rep? photo link here: http://www.ay-4u.com/image/users/33469/detail/big/276538.jpg is tha magnified date is x2.5 ? i cant tell (errr....damn beginner i am) what about the dail? look at the fonts at 6 oclock, it looks like something is wrong with them (few are bold and few normal) is there a gen sub like these fonts setup half bold half normal? what about the hands? i wanna know what are the faults with this rep you all can see (if there are any, while critical faluts most important) any piece of info will be much appreciated. thanks alot!!! d.b.
