  1. Thank you very much for that. This is the bidfun-db Watch Movement Archive, and it is an amazing resource - it provides technical details and photographs of over 8,000 different watch movements. It isn't the easiest of systems to use (the search facility is eccentric, to say the least, and doesn't seem to work properly). However, there is a vast amount of information there. Unfortunately, because the search is so difficult I think that it would be very tricky to use it to identify an unknown movement - which is what I'm really after. Also, although it is a vast resource, there are some omissions (e.g. there are no Selita and it doesn't make it obvious which movements are ETA clones). If anyone knows of any other resources, then do please post them.

    Metatechnical cabinet is great too. Most movements have the name of the company signed under the balance. But just study up here and on other forums! :)

  2. I remember when everyone on the Internet was angry that AOL was going to connect their users to the 'net. Pretty-much ruined everything.

    Before then, AOL was a self-contained community.

    All hell broke loose...

  3. It's older than that, but you would have to be working at a college, national lab or a defense contractor to be using it before that time.

    Crazy! I'm only 18 and remember dial up and getting those free Internet disks from AOL lmao! I used to actually use floppy disks...

  4. Sometimes people should not be mods for the reason of maturity level or mental imbalance

    When those kinds of people become mods, they can bury a Forum. It destroys the community.

    21 years now posting to forums. Seen it all. Done it all.

    We had 21 years of Internet?! Lol

  5. the rise of the internet has led to an explosion of SPS, also known as TDD or BPPB in some circles

    SPS = small penis syndrome

    TDD = tiny [censored] disease

    BPPB = baby pee pee bitchazzery

    :D

    Lmao! That perfect

    I've seen that happen on a couple of the subforums on WUS. Which forum did you notice it in?

    In all the forums. I can't get away from it. Lol

  6. Not to forum bash but, I'm seeing a new trend at watchuseek. seems to be one mod who is mod power happy and likes the words "thread closed".

    And someone posted a thread about it asking why he closes threads that are just dandy and he closed that one too. His reason? "not supposed to question moderator actions"

    Sorry for the rant. But I couldn't post it there or my thread would be closed

    Regards

    Shane

  7. There is more real watch knowledge here than many of the genuine forums' date=' and some amazing members whose idea of a good post isn't just their latest over priced bit of man jewelry photographed in front of their ferrari steering wheel[/quote']

    Oh I hate that. Or RR

  8. As I said in some other thread here: "Homages, replicas, genuine, whatever - RWG is defacto the best watch forum on the web."

    Many here started their collections with gens, many others with reps, some have both, some only reps and homages. Some "franken" their watches themselves, some enjoy antiques repair. We don't care. We love watches, not because they are glorified luxury d!ck enlargers, but for what they are: marvels of human ingenuity, design and engineering.

    I'm sure you'll love it here.

    Exactly. That's why I like it here. You guys are cool :D

  9. U meant "ALL" of us, lol. Why are u in this place in the first place anyway?

    And yes, gen purist take it too seriously, or maybe because we get some really nice watches with 10% of what they paid.

    I thought it was a regular watch forum (an alternative to WUS) but I was wrong lol. I like it here tho :)

  10. After spending some time on this forum I have noticed you guys are into replica watches (a lot of you) I have to admit that I was turned off a little, but then I started reading some threads and found out that you guys are NOT posers and these reps are just for fun. After all, people on other forums take watches way too seriously... Lol

  11. Looks like it should be a snap back. Is that not an opener groove just near the lug in the lower right of the picture?

    It could go ether way. It looks like it could be a snap back or a top loader. You CAN use a putty knife to pop off the crystal IF it's a top loader. The back could be a snap back and you should be able to use a caseback opener. Although you can use a pocket knife..... Don't cut yourself. It's easy ;)
