  1. Can't wait to see some pics, wristies and general impression of this rep. I guess for the extra $20 for Andrew's or Josh's sounds like a good option.

Which strap option is closest to the gen btw? Cos I see it's offered in 4 colours. They all look fantastic so the decision making on this bad boy never ends!

  2. hi anton, is this a 43.7mm? i saw one that my dealer over here was carrying (i live in malaysia) and it looks quite tiny to me (i've got a thick wrist). and then i checked on andrew's site and he listed it as being 42mm if i'm not wrong.

i'm really tempted to get this because of the big date...

  3. I just picked up the rubber strap for a Bell & Ross 46mm rep. What's weird, is the PVD coating on the buckle doesn't match the PVD on the watch at all. It's very matte, while the finish on the watch itself is somewhat reflectant.

Anyone else notice this, or do the newer B&R reps have a finish closer to the buckle? (i.e. very, very matte)

Same problem, mate, mine doesn't match either. But I think the bigger issue is I find the rubber strap extremely stiff and uncomfortable. Unlike the Panerai rubber straps which wrap nicely round your wrist.

Even slightly bigger issue, my B&R is known to stop on its own even when I'm wearing it. Aaargh! I think the movement's slightly screwed. Let me know if yours have the same issue.

  4. Hi All, I'm from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. If u are looking for super quality reps like the ones offered here by our so called super dealers.......go to Petaling Street Lot 61 & 62. Look for Raymond. All his high end reps are kept in a metal briefcase ( displayed ones are usually fantasy models). I bought the SFSO 1000M for just RM900 or US250.00. Prices are normally 20% lower than whats being offered here.

    Happy Hunting.

    RG

PS .. say Charlie recommended you.

Cheers, Unokuul! Maybe next time I'll pay Raymond a visit! I love KL, you guys have got everything, dude! :victory:

  5. I went to Billy who is located just past the intersection along Petaling past 5:00 pm. He occupies one booth ? from opening until 5:00 pm and then moves to another booth facing THE ONLY Dollar Toy Store located on the first floor of one of the buildings about 100 yards past the intersection.

If you are walking into the market from the Metro, stop in the intersection and make a right at that hot, stinking kettle of chestnuts churning away :yuk:

Billy is located on the right (middle aisle) about a 100 yards down facing that very large dollar toy store. You know you're getting close when you pass the guy selling Mont Blanc pens sets in the box.

If you walk in from the Metro and do not turn at :yuk: but walk through the intersection, there are a couple guys tucked away 20 yards on the right who were VERY stingy with their high end inventory and have very high prices. They have a whole little watch building table set up with lots of tools. Interestingly; they were THE only guys that let me walk away without chasing me down.... :g:

Remember, supposedly there are only 3 suppliers for all these guys in China Town. I like Billy because after talking to him for a few minutes he realized I knew more that 90% of his typical customers, I was there to buy, and I didn't want to play "catch me if you can" with the junk 90% of the other guys try. With a quick call on his cell phone he produced some very nice watches.

Tell him that the guy "with the face of Nicholas Cage", but more hair, sent you to him B)

Cheers, Vantri. I couldn't get an internet connection in KL but ventured there anyway and picked up a vintage Rolex Air King Precision (this is what it looks like except it didn't cost as much, haha, http://www.eora.it/catalog/product_info.ph...oducts_id=1267) for about US$25. I didn't have much time to shop so I went to the one shop and like you said, loads of fantasy models and most of the shops guys tend to be very pushy judging from the conversations they were having with other customers. Well, if time permits, I'd definitely like to go back again. Thanks so much for telling me all these though! Appreciate it! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  6. Sonic:

I was just there last month for a week and hit the night market several times.

True, customs did raid it on 5/23 while I was there. All the high qlty counterfeit merchandise went flying down the alleys (including watches) but I gathered this was a regular occurance due to the fact all the vendors had motorola police scanners in their hands.

All the low quality replica watches actually stayed on display while they hurried the high end stuff off the street for the night. Shows how poor quality those watches were!

In sum; there are SO many replica watch dealers on that block it probably comprises 25% of all merchandise sold there, no way could it be shut down.

I bought a few reps and got to know a couple vendors. I was told there are only 3 suppliers of watches for that market and I'd guess close to 30 watch booths, so hopping from booth to booth is pretty much a waste because odds are it's all the same $hit.

My advise is to pick the vendors that will pop the back off the watch and show you the motor, these are the guys that now their stuff and actually have the higher quality inventory available. I swear most of the booths have NO idea about any watches, they're just tending the shop.

Bottom line, you know you're getting somewhere when they have to disappear for a few minutes to go get what you want (one at a time) and then they act like they're carrying a grenade that's getting ready to go off (because they're afraid customs is around the corner). They want you to pay for it and get lost of give it back and be on your way.

I actually think that knowing TOO much about the watches makes them nervous to bring out the good stuff because they think you work for R0lex

I had guys try and sell me their best stuff for 650 ringitts (3.3:$1) but you shouldn't spend more than $75 U.S. per watch if you get two at once.

    Good luck and have fun!!!

Cheers, my friend. I'll be in KL in about 12 hours so I can't wait to see what they've got. I'm actually putting the brakes on the Rolexes for awhile so I'm hoping they carry some decent IWCs with 7750s on it. Or a Hublot would be nice too! And a couple of nice PAMs... :bounce:

BTW, did you manage to buy anything there at all? If so, how much did you spend?

  7. Hi,

I've sniffed around the forum and found nothing much on the rep scene in Kuala Lumpur.

I'm going to be there next week for 2 days and would like to check out some nice reps if there are any dealers there. I hear those at Petaling Street (Chinatown) have now been chased out so I'm not keeping my hopes high on that.

Anyone else been there recently and came across some nice pieces? Give me a shout (or a PM would also do nicely).

    Thanks, fellas!

  8. Hi,

I'm waiting for mine, so I will come with pics, and probably a micro-review some days after.

Sonicwinter : was the lack of AR disturbing on the white ?

Personally, I feel any sort of AR is a bonus when it comes to buying reps these days. For me, I always make sure the rep looks as accurate as possible to the original and that always remains top priority for me. AR is a bonus and even then, there are lots of reps which just add a blue tint and try to pass that off as AR.

So, in short, no the lack of AR didn't matter that much to me but if you'd rather go for the complete look, you might want to consider the Swiss version of the Steelfish which I believe comes with decent AR on it. If not, the lite Asian version does a pretty decent job for what you're paying. But trust me, you'll love the watch no less!

Rxus is spot on with his comments and observations! I totally agree about the weight and the lume and the slightly 'crooked' date but it doesn't bother me one bit! I just wear another watch whenever it comes to those 'crooked' days! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

BTW Pix, nice picture of the VC Overseas in your avatar. I own the exact same one with white dial and it's also the Asian Lite version. Very nicely built and almost flawless (even the bracelet is well made and lacks the sharpness found on most Swiss Rolexes) and not to mention, great price as well. So much so I'm thinking of getting the one with the Black dial just to add to my collection!

  9. Hi,

Can anyone who has the cheaper steelfish with the asian 2813 movement and no AR give me some feedback on how their watch is performing. I'm seriously tempted to go for the cheaper one with a white face to get round the lack of AR but I'm a little worried about the 2813 movement. What's the consensus?

    Thanks

    M

ahhh... the steelfish lite... i've got one and it works like a charm. no problem whatsoever as long as the lack of AR doesn't bother you, this is a steal! but check that the date clicks on the dot at 12am though. when choosing dial colour, i originally wanted white but the date on that one didn't click at midnight so i settled for a blue dial instead which worked perfectly. you know what some of these reps are like, lack of QC so we've got to do our own. good luck! :thumbsupsmileyanim:
