  1. This watch is just about complete, I purchased it several months ago and decided to do a bit of a Franken to it, I have a GEN IWC titanium crown, little larger than the GEN /Rep, looks and fit great.

I also added a Swiss 7750 movement, Should have all the parts back in it and the hands back on, the test fit look really good and the new pusher fits firmly. Crazy how much you can drop into a watch getting it to look and feel good.

Did the hands have to be broached or crimped to fit on the Swiss movement?

  2. How do you know its SWISS movement ? did Angus provide you with the movement pic? I want to order, but i dont know the difference between Asian and Swiss movement looks like :( *forgive my newbie question* i mean.. what if I bought Swiss movement, but they give me Asian movement. Didnt get a pic on the movement no. This is the part where you trust them :) We'll see -literally- if it has the swiss movement.
Mine does. It's incredible, about 1 sec/day, best movement I've got so far.
  3. I just bought a Presto #7 hand remover and am fooling around with some cheap watches before I go near my Rolexes. The problem with the tool is the center plunger, which is not centered, and keeps hitting the feet and not making it through the central hole between the feet. I have tried to adjust this by adjusting the spring on either side. I can also sometimes get the plunger tip to go through the hole if I hold the tool in a very particular way, placing so much pressure on the right spring and so much pressure on the left spring in a different position to adjust for the plunger tilt and try to center it. This seems like an awful lot of work to have to go through to make this supposedly good tool behave properly. Is there a better hand remover with a more stable plunger mechanism? And what about when the hands are so close to the dial that when a dial protector is used there is barely room for the hand remover. Is this the time for the manual fork type of tool? thanks
I ruined a bunch of hands with the presto. Ever since getting the manual lever type it's been no problem at all. Ditch the presto IMO.
  4. The Federalist Papers.
OK, that's 85 essays written by three guys anonymously. I'd like to see where they write about it (not disputing just yet, but I'd like to see.) Also, it's quite clear that the authors (Hamilton, Jay and Madison) are a very small subset of the "founding fathers." They were influential but not the only game in town.
  5. I've got 4 ROO's, and the only thing I've done is never keep them on a winder. I wear them for a day or two and put them away for a month or so -- they seem to do best when worn for limited duration. They definitely need a little more planning than the average rep, but then again, they are worth it:)
Makes sense. You'd be crazy to put a sec @ 12 or sec @ 6 7750 on a winder, just puts constant stress and wear on its most vulnerable points.
  6. the Andrew's version has better ceramic bezel, better shape of seconds arm (that overgrown bulb on the other end) and better pearl.
But on the other hand it has awful Ring Lock text, letters misaligned and pointed in crazy directions.
  7. "C/O means clean and oil?" Yes. Sometimes you see coa = clean, oil, adjust. 'Adjust' usually just means adjust timing. 'Adjust' may go so far as to include checking the balance wheel in the round and flat plus 'poise' as well as checking the hairspring to see that it is level and even with no close coils etc. 'Poise' means balancing the balance wheel after it is checked to be round and flat. You do not get this much now because the fellows who know how to do it are mostly gone from the business. When a balance staff is replaced, some of the better repair guys will take time to check the balance wheel for flat and round plus poise, especially on a high grade watch. I need to shut up! :prop:
    Awesome info, Thx!!
  8. My Son and Daughter returned from Japan yesterday and made it clear that they will not speak to their Grandpa.

Am I to weak or just trying to keep the peace with my family who I love dearly. It is utterly incomprehensible to me that my kids who still live with me cannot forgive my Father, who did nothing more than be non communicative.. In one day my Dear Dad has gone from jovial and happy, to small, fragile and sad because of my kid's. He hides in his room. Good God!! What can I do my friends?? I am just a bit torn up about all this.My instincts are to throw them out, but I fear they will hate me for choosing their old Grandpa over them.

Crappy situation but seems IMO that your instincts are right. You've got a short time left with him, you can't compromise that. Maybe send the kids to a motel where they can reflect on their attitudes and start thinking like grownups. However it plays out, I hope it goes as well as possible given the circumstances.
