Is it viable to just buy someone's old ETA Sub or Datejust and just gut the sucker for parts (such as the spacer and the movement)? Does it have to be a 2836 or does the 2824 suffice?

Do the rep bracelets fit on the gen watch heads?

I would get a watchsmith to do it, but I will be at school in Saint Louis and I don't relaly have the time for the patience to look for someone who is willing to put together a datejust.

I read a review somewhere that said rolex keeps using the axle/sleeve instead of the bearings because it is more effecient at winding. Meh.

I have scratched up my Ultimate PO bezel insert, and the pearl is recessed and I would l ike to source new ones. Does anyone have any spare ones and is located in the united states. Andrew said he has them, but I don't really like the idea of paying 15$ for shipping.

I think the upward mobility of our society takes a lot of people out of the rep collecting circles. For me at least, i will buy gens if I have the money, I don't intend to collect reps forever; but being a college student, my funds are limited. If i could afford it i would buy the gen, because reps have little or no horological value, lets face it, no matter how good the rep becomes, it is still an imitation and the makers of the rep are not responsible for the design.

the standard rolex movement is above and beyond what we have in our reps. To deny that is to declare one's insanity IMO.

I think tis a combination between the finer grit brush and the lack fo cleaning of reps from the factory. Even the high polish surfaces of reps seem to lack "shine", but soak it in WD-40 (dissolves a lot of hte contaminants/looses a lot of tarnish) and use some toothpaste (mild abrasive) and you wil be surprised how much more it shines.

I am getting a PO soon, but I know that i will have to resize it... knowing that it has pins and rollers does it need a special too to resize?

I don't really want to take it to a dealer; i did so with a Rolex 11610 and although they did resize it for free, the experience made me nervous...

The sub is only 40 mm, doesn't have an iron core, has hollow midlinks and the bracelet tapers a lot. It is a lot lighter.. something in the order of 130 grams if i remember correctly.
