Is it viable to just buy someone's old ETA Sub or Datejust and just gut the sucker for parts (such as the spacer and the movement)? Does it have to be a 2836 or does the 2824 suffice? Do the rep bracelets fit on the gen watch heads? I would get a watchsmith to do it, but I will be at school in Saint Louis and I don't relaly have the time for the patience to look for someone who is willing to put together a datejust.

I read a review somewhere that said rolex keeps using the axle/sleeve instead of the bearings because it is more effecient at winding. Meh. If yo uservice your watch often with Rolex i woul think this would be a nonissue

Go out and look at them in the dealers. The peal is meant to be white or a little off white The markers are more than slightly off white The dial is not flat black, its like a dark matte grey

I think the upward mobility of our society takes a lot of people out of the rep collecting circles. For me at least, i will buy gens if I have the money, I don't intend to collect reps forever; but being a college student, my funds are limited. If i could afford it i would buy the gen, because reps have little or no horological value, lets face it, no matter how good the rep becomes, it is still an imitation and the makers of the rep are not responsible for the design.

generally they aren't made to withstand more than a drop from your hand to a solid floor

the standard rolex movement is above and beyond what we have in our reps. To deny that is to declare one's insanity IMO. but he was indeed rough with that movement.
