  1. 1 at first... and if they are in fact as close to gen as you say... possibly 5-10 more... (teehee! possibly a date, no-date, TT, and fantasy model!)

I guess the Stage 1 Quality check should be sent to our super modders and in house rolex experts for final analysis... (Zig, Ubi, RBJ, etc...)

I think you will get most of your accurate feedback from these guys...

The case fits gen rolex movements, as well as eta movements (with a special movement ring).

This question of movement fitment has come up again... (as in other posts)

Is there someone willing to check to see if a 'readily available' aftermarket movement can fit within the genuine specs of the tube...?!?!?!

my understanding is that 2836 just wont work!

What grade of steel are you planning on using?!?! 316L or 904L?

Hole or No-Hole Case? (or both)

  2. The problem with the Rep/gen housing depends on the movement beeing used.

The crown shaft is located at a different place on Rolex to ETA movements.

If you put an ETA in, you have either to move down with the crown hole from the dial surface or you have to reduce the rehaut.

You simply can´t put an ETA in and get the correct crown position AND a correct rehaut.

i wonder if having this posted ten or twenty times throughout the thread, it might sink in to some people?!?! NAAAAHHH!

Why not start at the "PROBLEM" with this whole project...

Contact some of these chinese movement copiers, and have them finally do a rep of a rlx movement!

    - that would fix your stem issue!

    - also allows the gen-cased franken watches to be easily constructed!

and with a movement, you will start to see that good ol' deep rehaut that we [censored] so much about... hell, might even see some CH models be able to use gen crystals and bezels?!?!

  3. cskent... im ALLLLLLL about rep'ing the modern SD!!!! (begins the However's)

HOWEVER, he doesn't have a genuine case to go off of... unless someone is willing to donate one... and this being a REP forum... i highly doubt that anyone would do that for this cause...

HOWEVER again, there IS a Genuine SD case only on EBAY right now!!!

Is elprimo willing to invest 500 bucks on this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1

I thought there was someone who manufactured titanium HE valves... like the gens?!?!

Yet another HOWEVER, making a genuine spec'd case may not be able to house and ETA movement... which is FINE with me... i can find 3035/3135's all day!!!

honestly... this whole rep'ing an existing model is not really impressive UNLESS you do something super special... you give me an option for a 904L steel case... IM ALL ABOUT IT!!! how bout offering choices of genuine parts from the "factory"??? tubes, crowns? especially with correct threading?!?!

What about proper engraving... (no more polex or shiterand) or choice of my own serial number?!?! (i.e choosing my own year)

now the bezel... thick and never been rep'd correctly... need a gen to go off of...

    yet another investment: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1

how bout the caseback?!?! got to have the right depth and engraving!!!

    yet another investment: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1

how bout the dial... some look good... but gen is always best

    yet another investment: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1

these are all just dreams... too much work involved... but if there is anything i can do to help... let me know!!!

  4. it seems there are a few people selling these re-dials... which looks pretty decent... but NOT at 200-300 bucks!!

i recently purchase a DWSD Re-dial from a RichardH on the bay... 99 bucks... same Singer quality as those $250-$350 re-dials those other guys are offering...

jewelertools and jdmk20 sell the same products... jewelertools lives right down the street from me...

he sells those aftermarket Sub/SD cases with genuine movements... and various parts...

way too overpriced!! but his end products look great!

jewelertools has a website... but i have forgotten it... can anyone post link?

  5. $600 after mods ain't bad if you think that some people just getting into this hobby are starting on their first REP at $1000+ at rip off sites...

and as for gens... i never buy NEW, always used... even if its a few years old... you don't take the hit like buying a new one...

you can pick up a 2004 sub for 2500-3500 these days... and years from now... it will be worth the same! especially if rolex continues to raise the price of the new ones!

  6. How bout a "What NOT to do" section...?

you know that this would be beneficial if it was 'at least' tagged "What NOT to do" before people read anything like this...

And, as people do random and stupid acts of watch repair, we can document it... whether or not it works!!! just cuz it may have worked for one person doesn't mean it is the correct way to do it... (ex. using duct tape to remove a case-back has never worked for me... but it has worked for others.. however, a $15 purchase of a case-back remover would be the correct way to do it...)

but this thread would definitely be in the realm of idiotic things to attempt!!!

BTW, does the "big rubber dildo" really work on inserting crystals?!?!

  7. Hmmm? Ok i'll chime in...

Why not let the manufacturers get the case and other parts down first, before jumping into the pit of "movements"?!?!

Plus, the only reason that this would be beneficial, is if they did a true 1:1 case... (which these days seems to be purely brilliant marketing)

that way, the stem would be in the "correct" location, hence the NEED for a genuine-spec case for 3035/3135 movements...

Believe me, It would be a dream come true for many... However, lets come back to earth, and realize that after all these years incorrectly rep'ing a rlx, you really think they would get it right on the inside? - puff, puff, give!

    PP

  8. "1:1" and "perfect" are the two that really [censored] me off...

dealers, show me ONE rep that will accommodate "every" piece/part a gen utilizes!!!

    just show me one!!! please!!!

after years of rep'ing, lets say, rolex models (which haven't changed in YEARS) you would think a 1:1 or perfect model would be available!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Maybe we should pass this on to the chinese:

REPLICA: An exact duplicate of the original, using the same materials and manufacturing techniques as were used to produce the original article.

    Thanks
