  1. Glad to see it found a good home Cool endlinks!
  2. Use a 3mm drill bit and turn gently by hand then polish. Yes it is the over polished look, but with polished end tip spring bars can look good.
  3. Nice job! Lug holes are a little large, 1.2mm would have been better. You can counter the effect by chamfering them slightly.
  4. Another tip for stubby crown guards is to file down the saddle between them. Not by much though or the crown will come in contact with the bezel. Doing this will also require countersinking and re-tapping the case thread before fitting the tube.
  5. Drilled out the lug holes to 1.2mm and test fitted the WSO spring bars. Decided to give a T19 crystal (PA 462-66 ) from Ofrei a try too. A snug fit and very similar to the gen T19 service crystal. Next step, some case shaping.
  6. The lug holes don't look too bad, however I will be drilling them out to 1.2mm. I'll be fitting the WSO gen-spec 2mm spring bars, they have polished end spring tips which is a nice touch. Picked up the dial next door: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=260313 The lume actually had a slightly cool tint to it, not really vintage, so I stained it with tea and did the same to the Yuki handset to match. I also gave the dial a light dusting of matt varnish. I was't happy with my first attempt at staining the lume on the hands, so had another bash at them.
  7. Well I succumbed to the need to take a closer look at the updated Cartel 5513 and ordered one from Josh. http://www.pf-818.com/-p-9481.html At long last we can say goodbye to to the stubby crown guards, a good excuse for me start another build. Here we go The annoying "Stailesssteel" and 1665 model designation between the lugs. I will sand these out to leave a brushed finish. Comparison of case height with the previous stubby 5513 and 1665 Cartel models (both modded). First the 5513. 1665 with a phong bezel assembly Side by side with the modded 5513 Asian 2836 movement Replacement of dial and handset. Dismantling the bezel assembly and crystal removal in preparation for case work. So far so good. More to follow
  8. Pity, looks like a slight lume mismatch between dial plots and hands.
  9. Thanks The base watch was from Puretime. Dial from Ingod44, bezel assembly from WSO. Bezel insert off the bay, pearl from Yuki, gen spec crown. Hands a mix of sources, Raffles/Yuki, etc. Shortened the tail of the second hand to be more gen like. Gen T19 service crystal. ETA 2846. Phoenix NATO. Added a little patina to everything. Think that's about it.
  10. Agree, looks like the diameter of the dial is too small for the case. Either that or it isn't seated correctly. Either way you'll need to open up the case to resolve the issue.
  11. Unless there's a broad arrow mark on the case (pheon) probably not. A lot of watches were bought privately and engraved. It doesn't make it's heritage any less exciting though!
  12. This is getting better by the minute
