  1. Beautiful! Great job!
  2. Nice upgrades! Looking good with the gen crown and service insert. Btw. the crown and tube originally installed were from Athaya, here's a shot from the sales thread. ...and link from next door: http://www.homageforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=24671
  3. Thanks. Still in two minds myself, although it will probably be the Yuki if/when the pearl turns up.
  4. Thanks. Can't a beat a 5513 in the collection. Cheers. Hands are from Yuki, can be a bit hit and miss though. The machined grove around the top of the case is a leftover from the 1665 model to facilitate a rubber sealing ring (there wasn't one). Strange indeed if your 1665 engraved version doesn't have it.
  5. Couple of options for the bezel insert, l'll either go for the bleached Yuki or gen service. I'm still waiting for the Yuki pearl to arrive, which thanks to FedEx is on a bit of an odyssey and may never been seen again. Anyhow, here are the shots with the bezel insert options, not fitted just placed.
  6. Thanks The Cartel CGs have become less hassle with the new midcase. However, being based on the 1665 the lugs need work to get them closer to the 5513. One step forward two steps back!
  7. Thanks Installed the PA 462-66 crystal and reinstalled movement. Bezel next.
  8. Case shaping completed with diamond files and varying grades of wet&dry abrasive paper. Reduced the height of the lugs slightly from the top and refinished with an abrasive pad. Brushed out the spelling mistakes between the lugs too, leaving a hint of the engraving behind. Drilled and countersunk the case to accept an Athaya 702 crown and tube. I used a combination on 1.3 mm drill bit and a 6.3 mm M3-90 degree countersinking bore for this. Finished off by giving the shiny bits of the case a polish. On to the shots
  9. Stunning! Sure to be a great build.
  10. Very nice!
  11. Glad to see it found a good home Cool endlinks!
  12. Use a 3mm drill bit and turn gently by hand then polish. Yes it is the over polished look, but with polished end tip spring bars can look good.
  13. Nice job! Lug holes are a little large, 1.2mm would have been better. You can counter the effect by chamfering them slightly.
  14. Another tip for stubby crown guards is to file down the saddle between them. Not by much though or the crown will come in contact with the bezel. Doing this will also require countersinking and re-tapping the case thread before fitting the tube.
  15. Drilled out the lug holes to 1.2mm and test fitted the WSO spring bars. Decided to give a T19 crystal (PA 462-66 ) from Ofrei a try too. A snug fit and very similar to the gen T19 service crystal. Next step, some case shaping.
  16. Congrats! Looks great!
  17. The lug holes don't look too bad, however I will be drilling them out to 1.2mm. I'll be fitting the WSO gen-spec 2mm spring bars, they have polished end spring tips which is a nice touch. Picked up the dial next door: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=260313 The lume actually had a slightly cool tint to it, not really vintage, so I stained it with tea and did the same to the Yuki handset to match. I also gave the dial a light dusting of matt varnish. I was't happy with my first attempt at staining the lume on the hands, so had another bash at them.
  18. Well I succumbed to the need to take a closer look at the updated Cartel 5513 and ordered one from Josh. http://www.pf-818.com/-p-9481.html At long last we can say goodbye to to the stubby crown guards, a good excuse for me start another build. Here we go The annoying "Stailesssteel" and 1665 model designation between the lugs. I will sand these out to leave a brushed finish. Comparison of case height with the previous stubby 5513 and 1665 Cartel models (both modded). First the 5513. 1665 with a phong bezel assembly Side by side with the modded 5513 Asian 2836 movement Replacement of dial and handset. Dismantling the bezel assembly and crystal removal in preparation for case work. So far so good. More to follow
  19. My future 5513 today
  20. Past
  21. Screen
  22. Pity, looks like a slight lume mismatch between dial plots and hands.
  23. 1665 today
  24. Very nice indeed! Congrats
