  1. Forgive the lack of skills and camera phone, but here's a few more
  2. Just a note to say i've had another fine watch from Toro delivered, couldn't be happier. I know for the new folks (i'm really still one of them) it's always encouraging to have 'success stories' - i've purchased from Toro a couple of times now and frankly i couldn't have had better service. Very happy.
  3. Love the look of this one. Thoughts on the movement on it? i've read somethings suggesting the movement is problematic, but that the 7750 29J has improved upon it - but to be honest i've no idea. If the consensus is the movement is just fine - it's my next watch from PureTime!
  4. well crap. love the hublot. now i've got a 4th to choose from 8-)
  5. So, after spending far too long refreshing myself with what options are available to me today, here's where i'm leaning: 1) Rolex Pro Hunter Daytona MK1 http://www.torobravos2014.com/index.php?route=product/product&keyword=pro+hunter&product_id=714 2) Rolex Pro Hunter Daytona MK2 http://pure-time.com/product/pro-hunter-matt-daytona-mk2-black-numeral/ 3) Rolex Pro Hunter Milgauss PVD http://www.pf-818.com/rlmph10001-hunter-milguass-p-11321.html Just coincidence they're all rollies. All a tad smaller than i prefer (they're all 40 mm faces, i prefer in the 44-45 mm range), but boy they sure are purdy. Leaning more towards the MK2 i reckon (at least tonight, i'm sure i'll look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow and change my mind. again.)
  6. now that's a nice looking piece there mate
  7. Nice - breitling's definitely my go too - i've got a couple of them (seawolf and super avenger). haven't really looked at the AP - i imagine i can get it with a metal band - lemme take a look!
  8. i'm getting the itch, after seeing a rolex expedition bamford black on black - what's your favorite black on black rep, and where'd ya get it 8-)
  9. Ended up finding 18mm pressure pins from esslinger.com, a dozen or so of them for $4.50. worked like a charm.
  10. the pin that's holding my beautiful avenger clasp broke this week - i know i can buy a generic clasp for about 30 bucks - but i love the breitling work on the clasp. i can get an official breightling clasp for about $300 - but that seems silly, as it's just a pin. Thoughts on how i can just replace the pin and repair the clasp?
  11. Purchased an avenger from Toro, and absolutely love it. really, it's a great watch. If i had one complaint thus far, is that the lume doesn't seem to hold it's 'charge' for very long. Exposed to light, then into a dark room for the next 20 minutes - it's great. However an hour later or so, after being in a lighted office all day, it doesn't glow at all. Is this typical of what to expect from rep luming?
  12. Any of the TD's have the JLC for sale? i'm not seeing it on those sites i know of..
  13. So... should i be taking it in for maintenance, and if so, what is the maintenance (ie would would i be asking the watch smith to do) and with what frequency should i do it? once? once a year?
  14. So, new breitling avenger from Toro arrived, beautiful watch. I can sometimes hear the movement inside of it, and i've noticed a few of you have said you've had your watch 'serviced' or commenting that it's rare for a watch to arrive from Noob factory in appropriate internal condition. Should i be taking this to someone to do something - and what would that something be? Is there servicing that i should be doing on my own, or is it really something that needs to be done by a watch professional?
  15. so, breitling skyland avenger (yellow hands) arrived today. marvelously beautiful piece. from order placement to receipt of watch, approximately 2 weeks from Toro (thanks T). this has the leather watch clasp, which wasn't as straightforward to put on as i'd have though (who'da thunk watch straps might trip me up). From time to time i can hear the mechanicals inside the watch going, which makes me a bit nervous, we'll see how it holds up. Thanks for the warm welcome and for helping the new guy fellas - appreciate it! i fear i may have stumbled upon a new hobby...
  16. I typically stay at the shangri-la - it's a little pricey, but they do a killer job. walking distance to orchard towers.
  17. I've just ordered one from torobravo. it's not arrived yet, but he comes very strongly recommended by those who have done business with him before. The photos and information he's shared with me have been fantastic. He's in the dealer section on the main board. Finding the actual link to his site takes a little digging, and some of the links don't work, but it's in there, trust me, that's how i found it 8-)
  18. Watch is shipping today from toro. Sent great QC pics and responded with a time grapher read out w/in minutes of my asking. it's not obvious to me how to post an image, else i'd put up a qc image. Family's waking up and it's time to make the pancakes... Looks like Christmas is coming early, boys and girls 8-)
  19. oh i'm quite certain i don't understand it. the factories, then, must have a business model that is 1/2 'legit' branded manufacture, and 1/2 rep mfr - the owners must be playing both sides of the field
  20. Update to the Toro order - this morning he provided me with paypal instructions, and very clearly articulated what he'd like to have done and what not to say in the paypal comments field to help protect his business. Good communication. He didn't indicate when it would actually ship at this time; but assuming he'll get to that as well.
  21. Thanks mate. Fascinating world here. So i'm assuming 'factory' is a bit of tongue in cheek? more of a small operation run by 1-2 folks in their house? Curious as to how the system works - i'm assuming that much of the branded mfr occurs in China anyway - are folks smuggling out parts from branded factories and assembling them in their own 'factory'? or is there is there a more sophisticated supply chain where the individual parts are copied and manufactured solely for the purpose of replicas? combination of both? Is it typical to ask your rep to provide a timegrapher analysis/screen shot/whatever of the watch he's sending?
  22. So, just ordered my first watch from toro. he's indicating it's from the "N" factory. I"ve seen others from H factory, Noob factory, etc. What do these reference? Is there a meaningful difference between the different 'factories'?
  23. So, a thought occurred to me. I find myself in Beijing or Shanghai from time to time (and singapore, and indonesia, and malaysia, and..etc). Would it be reasonable that i could go more 'direct' to the source while there, and bring a number of items back with me?
