  1. Go to eBay and search for "submariner policarbonat" or "submariner policarbonato".

Thanks, that is the one... and it seems quite popular in Italy!

But unfortunately they all have stupid "brand" names like BRAVO or GENEVA... not a distinguished brand like REPLICA! ;)

  2. For me it all started when I got a genuine Tudor Sub from my father for my 18th birthday (which seems ages ago now, damn how time passes by). I loved that watch, but since I wore it on a daily basis, it got scratched and beaten up after some years. I wore it during my military time, while diving even when I was asleep. After 6 or 7 years I wanted it serviced and polished and nearly freaked out, when I saw the bill from the authorized Rolex dealer. That was the point when I started to look for a similar replacement for daily use... Since I only found some really bad brass Rolexes, that I bought on holiday in NY or Spain, I was not really pleased. These things just looked too bad to be true.

Around 1999 I started searching the web, but needless to say, it was nearly impossible to find a reputable dealer or a decent Sub rep at that time. In 2001 I found replica center. Well you know that site that pretends to offer unbiased replica information and links to completely unaffiliated rep sites (sarcasm dripping). I was lucky enough to find a site through them, that send me a watch at all and a not so bad one after all. So I ordered a Class AAAAAAAAAA+++++++++ Asian copy, since they wanted more than $800 for a 100% (more sarcasm here) swiss version. The watch I got cost me around $280 and turned out to be a quite decent Sub with a Miyota movement (I checked that some years later with more background knowledge acquired from the web). It was actually not too bad, water resistant and had a decent magnification for the time... Only the bracelet was really crap, it had imitated SEL, that were hollow inside. Although the price was a bit exaggerated, but that I learned later.

After a long time of daily use and scratches all over the bracelet and the bezel inside I started searching for a new rep bracelet and bezel insert, which I found on ebay. I exchanged them, but my findings in ebay started my interest in reps again and that's when I ended up at RWG...

Now around 40 reps later and a lot of money going to China, I still own the old Miyota and it still keeps perfect time... Although I don't wear it anymore since I got some nice ETA subs and a lot of other watches to replace it. I gave it to my brother lately and hopefully it will last him a long time.

I bought a real Sub also, but I am really thinking about selling it, since I will probably never dive as deep as 1000ft anyway ;)) And the ETA Subs give me all I need from a Sub... apart from my first Tudor one, which really has a special place in my collection - even more so after my father died two years ago.

Well, that was me becoming a rep afficinado!

  3. @By-Tor: I feel your pain! As soon as I posted the All Sub thread (the one in my signature) I got several "Who has the best sub" PMs and it really sucks that people can't do their homework.

When I came to this board I took a lot of time to study the Do's and Don'ts of the board and I think it is just a question of good manners to do that like with every place else in the real world where you enter as a newbie as well. I read a lot, learned a lot about reps of the different brands and finally decided to give silix a chance (with a LV sub actually). I was not disappointed, but also not too overwhelmed by the quality of their ETA subs (although the price is right for what they offer), so I read some more untill I found what I was looking for.

I think the hunt is part of the fun in the rep game and some people just don't understand that. Searching and reading is what makes you a (rep) educated man and you will finally be able to find the best sub yourself just by looking at the pictures.

    Just my two cents.

Have a nice weekend and thanks to all contributors for sharing their exceptional knowledge.

  4. Since price will probably climb to an unacceptable amount for me (I am not yet this Panerai crazy), I thought I want to share this very special Panerai item I found on german ebay. Looks very nice and is a perfect very rare deco object.

It has a working Quartz movement is made out of brushed stainless steel and properly lumed (see pics in the auction).

And no, I am not the seller, nor affiliated with him.

If someone of you guys gets the highest bid, it would be nice to hear from him...

    Happy bidding!

  5. gotta say as far as silix goes, i have owned two of their duponts and they most certainly have the ping.

i haven't owned ones from paul or andrew so i can't compare but i can say that jay and angel's quality level is high on these. these are very heavy and solid with the ping. as i remember thor has pics and video that were posted on rwg1.

I second that. I own a few of Silix Duponts and they are just amazing. Very heavy, certainly with a nice loud ping sound and they are refillable with original Dupont gas or cheap refills. You can use the cheap Zippo flintstones as well.

Excellent product with an unbeatable price!!

  6. Also it looks like drop ship only, min. order 5!

I guess you are right, did not see that the first time I looked through the site. And they don't take Paypal...

WU is just crap and expensive.

Anyone got another good dealer for wallets, belts, handbags etc.??

I found the Trustybagguy doing a search, supposedly he is a friend of TWG and has quite good quality items? Anyone has dealt with him or has some other reliable high quality dealers for leather goods??

    Thanks in advance...

  7. A wise friend of mine once said that collecting reps is like masturbating…. The trill is to seek, searching, reading, thinking and finding that perfect piece, but the day after you receive it, you feel empty inside!

Then it all starts over again…

That is a very deep psychological diagnosis of my problem ;)

    ...and it's true!!!

But that is the whole fun about reps!!

  8. Panerailord-

You are right that the avid rep buyer could easily buy a gen. It depends where you are coming from. Prior to coming to RWG I had only bought gens. And irrespective of cost, they all had their share of problems. AP, Breguet, Cartier, RGM, VC, etc. - they all ultimately needed service or repairs. And when they did need service or repair the authorized dealers and repair folks were [censored], overcharged and took advantage of the customer.

And I am not arguing that Reps are as good as gens. Gens are a prestige item. Reps are not. Wear you're gens proudly. But I come out where Quarks and Ubi do. If you find a watch you think you will want for the rest of you're life and can afford it, buy the gen. Otherwise enjoy buying and modding all of those reps. I know that I am prouder of, and take better care of, my modded 7753 196 and 187 then my wife with her $$$ Breguet. :)

    Amen!

  9. I owned two genuine Submariners: a Tudor, which I still have and a 16610 which I sold. My simple calculation is as follows:

I can buy a decent ETA sub for around €200 or less, if I even wanted to get my genuine serviced, I paid around €300-400 every few years (AD price) just to have a watch that keeps time! Yes, a genuine movement is not that much better in timekeeping if you wear it on a daily basis. After 3 years my genuine 16610 lost about 10 minutes every week.

If I buy reps, I don't have to invest €3500 and the additional €300 every few years and I can have a lot of different watches. Overall I am much happier with my reps, if it breaks, just get a new one!

It is as simple as that!

  10. LOL. Yachtmaster price: ONLY $1300!!!!

Incredible ripoff! I remember this site from the dark ages (around 2001), when I was wandering the web unknowingly of real rep prices. Luckily I never was stupid enough to buy from one of these replicacenter advertised ripoff scammers. It has been there for quite some time and probably thousands fell for this scam.
