Wow! Did you swap out the balance & bridge - straight swap? Forget that, obviously both as the gen has no regulator arm.

Has anyone ever removed a Kif A (Flector) shock spring?
ceejay replied to horologist's topic in General Discussion
Luckily this is a captive spring so won't fly away when released! Good luck. -
Deeply shocked & saddened to receive the news of the passing of Nanuq. My sincere condolences to all your family. A true gent has been lost.

You have a older 21,000 vph movement based on the Valjoux 7750. The newer ETA 7750 has a beat rate of 28,000vph this will explain the different tooth count. This is the wheel you require (or similar) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264294191948 Part number is Valjoux 705

Admitting my horological embarrassment, must confess!

Hand winding auto mainsprings...hell no! Especially on those tiny modern calibres! Only mainsprings I hand wind are those that are not replaceable, easily. Other than that, new mainspring, pressed in. I have on occasion came across new mainsprings that the retainer ID is larger than the diameter of the barrel it's going into. On these occasions, It has to come out of the retainer and be wound into a mainspring winder. Mainspring winders are ridiculously expensive but I managed to get a decent set, without remortgaging the house. As, said above make a note or take a picture before removing the old mainspring so you know what way it goes back in. -
Some of his sales threads made me cringe.

How did you come by such an extensive supply of restricted parts? These cold be advertised on any public site, why choose a forum for replica watches over a forum for genuine watches and parts?

Question on mainspring and barrel, oiling etc.?
ceejay replied to Timelord's topic in General Discussion
There are eBay sellers that sell decants of Moebius lubricants (and other brands) I went down this route with the Horotec Episurf-Neo (epilame treatment) got 5ml as 100ml would evaporate faster than I use it! Handwinding mainsprings is never a good idea. New mainsprings will general just slip straight into the barrel from there retainer, just a little braking grease on the barrel is all that's required. If a new mainspring is available, then use it. 10 bucks for a spring is worth it just for the peace of mind. If a new mainspring is not available then a drop of D5 on a lint free rag and the spring pulled through. Invest in a set of Mainspring winders, the Chinese sets will suffice as long as you use them carefully and are not doing too many springs with them (the brass arbor hooks are their weak point) Gone over most of what was said by @automatico good, sound advice. -
Little dab of blue loctite should keep it in place😉

There's a fake plate glued on top of the regular screw. You will need to remove it to gain access to the regular screw.

how do you safely work on a watch with a radium dial?

Attached is a research article on the hazards present with radium dials. Crockett_Robin_E_2012_Radium_dial_watches_a_potentially_hazardous_legacy.docx.pdf -

I have the money now but can't find a gen worth buying
ceejay replied to krim's topic in General Discussion
I trained in Horology with the guy that puts those watches together and owns Mr Jones watches! -
I'm not familiar with the MoChaCha dials. Could you point me in the right direction? I have a 2824 auto in the case already so it would be just dial, hands & crystal I presume? Cheers.
-
Like it! Would a gen 5500 case (complete) be a suitable base to start a build?

"close" won't be good enough. It has to be exact. That movement is a AS 1677. Chances of a match...no idea! Remote i'd say. The jewel is set in a brass setting so polishing it to size is not possible. Communicate with this guy... http://www.obsoletewatchandclockparts.com/wristwatchmovementsFto.htm Explain what you have and what you need, he may be able to help.
-
Spot on, the balance jewel is missing. For your information, the movement you have is a FHF 76. Unfortunately, it appears to be an unusual variant as it has this tri-shock protection. Most, according to google and Ranfft ( http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&0&2uswk&FHF_76 ) have the common Incabloc shock protection. Unless someone else has a solution? You could take a chance on this... https://speedtimerkollektion.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=32_222_100&products_id=19233 It has the Incabloc protection. There is a 'chance' that the balance jewel will fit and you can then install your tri-shock end stone. There is the possibility it will not fit and you may be able to use the entire mainplate, although it looks pretty shabby. Anyway, you now know what your movement is & what is missing.

Bezel don't look gen.

You sure you're not 'long screwing' that balance c*ck!? Wouldn't be the first time someones put a long screw in a short hole....

2836-2 uses a Etachron regulator. You need to study the correct method and use the correct tools, to do it properly. Watch & learn...
