  1. Thanks Babola for an excellent review !!! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I agree on the comments regarding the lume colour and truncated tips , I have asked that these be corrected on the next run

It was a actually a toss up between lumed or un-lumed but as there was so little difference in cost I figured at least with lume they are ready to wear and re-luming is always an option.

Thanks to everyone who suports these projects with your time and money!!!

    Cheers

  2. There's an idea, Simon - you know how to manufacture them consistently, and you know you'd be more than welcome to my existing artwork and any new ideas ;)

Hi Ross - good to hear from you!!

I hope all's well and that you're still in the game!!

I never considered making vintage dials as they are not my main passion (skinny wrists)and people like yourself , Clint, Stefan , Gordon et al have already taken this segment of our hobby to the pinacle....I'd rather have your work thanks!!

Without your contributions, none of these dials or the Pre-V ones would have been possible so I hope you're not inteding to hang up the gloves just yet!

Also, check your post box over the next few days to freshen up that 201/A , 202/A and Pre-A 009 of yours ;)

    Cheers

    Simon

  3. Morning All

Quick update - ALL HANDS GONE

I can hardly believe it , in less than 2 days 195 sets of hands gone out to distributors / committed to EU orders.

This leaves me with 5 sets for my self , 2 of which I have used!!!

I've already pressed the button to get some more made, this time it should be 30-40 days lead time

I'll be offering Hour and Minute sets with the forthcoming (end July) 201/A , 202/A and Pre-A 002/009 dials so if anyone has missed this first batch , hopefully not to long to wait

Thanks to everyone for their support and especially to Mattusss , cskent and bwhitesox for making this such a quick success!!

    Cheers

    Specs

Extended lume on hour and minute hand

Wider lume area on hour an minute hand

Thinner frame of second hand leaf

Lume colour is off white - not pure white but you would describe as white

Lume strength is pretty average , not superlume for sure

    Pictures

The new hands are installed on my 201/A and 203/A , the 205/A has the original L style hands that were masterfully re-lumed by Zig to match gen pics, they are next on the to do list.

    I hope you like them!!

Thanks for your support as always - keep the Pre-V fire burning !!

  6. Dom,

FGD dials have a really sturdy coat of black. Simon will correct me if I'm wrong but to me it almost seems like it's a chemical blackening with cupric compound or anodization of the alloy that's used on the top-plate. Bottom line is: FGD dials can take what would normally destroy an ordinary dial but you should still exercise restraint and utmost caution because they are works of art!

Babola has a lot of experience working with FGD dials so you may want to shoot him a quick PM.

You're right on all counts mate

The steel is coated black in a process similar to PVD , so it's resistant to most domestically available chemicals

The text on these base dials has also been "baked" so its rock solid and you would struggle to remove it even with acetone.

I am not so sure about the lume though - I think the varnish will absorb any solvents you use and possibly discolour.

I would use some white sprit on the painted spot area first and try to remove it , if that fails move up to acetone based solvent.

if you get the paint mark removed , you should be able to gently clean the dial back to its original finish using white spririt / diluted acetone, finished with a soap and water wash.

When back to the original finish , I think a couple of good coats of clear low satin varnish with cover any flaws and be far more pleasing to the eye

    Cheers
