JMB is working on a Tudor build for me right now, with a new cartel 5513 case. It has the POLEX marking between the lugs.
JMB, if you see this can you tell us whether mine had that goofy rubber gasket between the crystal & retaining ring? That might tell us whether the new 5513 cases are no longer gen-spec or if they are more like the puretime cases...

Frozen in ice...
Carry on.

$150 for a couple scotchbrite pads! What a rip off!
{edit: dang, you caught it!}

SMP is genuine. The PO is a rep
I agree.

Did I read the DSN blog correctly in that he is also not able to source the swan neck movement, but you can still order from him with Asian movements?
That is my understanding. DSN is out of the Swiss swan neck movements and will not be getting any more. Right now even his Asian movements are pretty sparse, from what I can tell from his emails...

I think that was TWP.

Anyone have this watch?
http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=114
... or maybe the 177?
http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=1023
Since Flav is no longer able to do work for us, who can fix the canon pin on the above watch? What about re-lume?
Puretime is incommunicado and so is DSN, so I'm wondering what my options are...
THX!

Has anyone heard from Angus yet? He's supposedly been back for a while now, but still no answer on my emails. Same with DSN. I sure would like to buy some watches but apparently no one wants to sell them to me...

You are correct. The SMP Chrono is one of the best reps available. If you buy it and have the mkovement segiced, there is no reason why it shouldn't last like a Swiss movement. I have one, it hasnt been serviced but has lasted well so far, I will get round to getting it serviced soon.
Thanks for the reply. I ended up getting the SMP chrono and the Asian black GMT Seamaster (the one that everyone seems to think is a great rep for the $).
-
You threw away $50 then....
Why? Because they come already about as "waterproof" as they'll get?
-
The current SMP Chrono is a more accurate looking rep, but the non-chrono has the better movement.
True or false?
Being a newbie I'm basing this off of a sticky thread that stated the Swiss 2824-2 is one of the best rep movements out there... and I know there have been complaints on the 7750.
Conversely, the new chrono seems to be generally regarded as superior in overall appearance to the standard SMP (latest versions).
Thoughts please.

Just got my black Seamaster Chrono today. It is excellent, far better than my blue SMP. Of course it has excellent weight and feel, the bezel is aligned and clicks smoothly and solidly. The chronos work perfectly and the helium valve doesn't not totally unscrew like the old SMP's, it unscrews and stops. The subdial spacing is off, but since I like the gen so much it doesn't bother me. The bracelet uses pins and does indeed have a speedmaster clasp, but it looks like it can be traded out for the correct clasp from an SMP without any problems.
I'm going to compare it directly with a gen and post pics soon, but if you're considering getting one, do it.
Could you expand on how it's far better than your blue SMP? Are you saying the quality is better? Aside from the helium valve screw thing, is there anything else? Does your blue SMP not click solidly? I really like the look of this watch too but I'd like to learn more about it.

it is a bit more difficult to machine than steel but not bad with the right tooling
A bit? Man, I must need some better tooling!

I just bought 15. *fingers crossed*

I want it!! That is the badest watch ever! Nice work, you two!

I saw a white dial Steelfish (bought f/Joshua a couple weeks ago) last weekend. The lume looked great to me... and glowed VERY well. I almost couldn't believe it was a rep with such a nice lume.

Very nice!

Looks great! Dial does look a little too dark still but I actually like the look of this dial better than then gen. Probably would be best if it could be corrected though (either way I want one!).
And yeah, ass-side pics would be good!

I have seen reviews of this new Pam, but this is the most useful one for me to date. It actually makes me feel better about the new version and its back on my want list. The cg issue can be modded, heck there usually is something to get a mod for anyways. Thanks again.
Newbie here. How would one go about modding the CG? That is the only thing holding me back from a new Arktos. It's terrible! I can't imagine you can buy a (better) rep CG for the Arktos... so how would one mod it?
BTW, thanks for the great comparison review!

Looks more ceramic to me, but I like it!
It's PVD. I know the guy who owns the watch. I find out who did it... it wasn't cheap.
It's a gen, BTW....
