  1. 3786 is the one! Classy with no cheesy Top Gun nonsense and the 46mm is too big for real life (for my wrist anyway!)

A 3786 rep would be the one but I've never seen it - the only 44mm rep I've seen is the Top Gun single chrono. Is that right?

  2. Certainly no double chrono in the rep world, but the 44mm size is the same as the standard "single" top gun chrono. I'm sure the ceramic finish will be nothing like the real thing when side by side either but who's going to notice!

I have a standard 3717 and I've always liked it, but at 42mm it always felt a bit small. 44 would do it for me IF it was good quality. Very tempted I must say.

Also waiting on the Ultimate Deepsea - another big watch. Again I've tried the gen and it certainly wears bigger than the dimensions would suggest, whereas the 46mm Top Gun double was huge! It is over 2mm thicker and the sime diameter as a BP!!

  3. I'd be keen to hear more about this. I see Andy trusty is offering 2 now - one appears to be PVD at $298 while the other is (what claims to be) Ceramic at $348. Has anyone got their hands on the ceramic one yet???

  4. Wow- I've been out of circulation for a while - nothing was really capturing my interest since the 06 CD and the Slevin - but this has me back in the game!

As the wearer of a gen BP, I'm keen to get my hands on one of these as a weekend "hacker" to keep the good watch in tip top shape. (something I've done before eg SeaDweller).

When (not if) I jump for one of these I'll try to get some comparison shots done.

  5. Good number of posts on this here. Plenty of detailed info from owners.

I have 2 - my comments apply to both.

1 Pretty good. been wearing now for about a month and no problems. It's not 100%, but it's pretty close.

2 Mine's getting no worse despite daily wear.

3 Numerous posts with solutions on the IWC forum. Search for date wheel alignment.

  6. On this forum, we're "commenting and sharing our findings" rather than "complaining". I take it from your post that we SHOULD be complaining, but not on this forum - instead we should be complaining to our dealers?

What you say is absolutely correct though - they get away with it cos we accept it and get it fixed, but it is a tricky one.

    So, do you

    1) Complain to dealer - maybe get the problem sorted, maybe not. Possibly p1ss them off so they don't deal with you again (esp if you're a relative newb) or at the very least they'll be less inclined to deal with you.

    2) Live with it - chalk it up to experience - keep fingers crossed for better luck next time. This is a risky sport - you're going to get your fingers burnt every now and then.

    3) Send it to a reputable watchsmith, who will not only sort the problem, but you will end up with a more reliable and possibly more accurate timepiece.

In practice, I suspect that most of the regular collectors on here do a bit of all 3 - I've certainly sent watches back before now, and had replacements sent and problems sorted. I've lived with a few, and a couple, like the recent IWCs, will get a bit of The Zigmeister treatment. But if we all piled back to dealers with a flood of complaints, is it going to encourage them to get new models out?

I agree with the principle of what you say, I just think in practice it pans out a bit differently.

  7. Also never understood why people prefer speedy Andrew better than meticulous TTK.

mmmm - dunno bout TTK as never dealt with him, but of the 2 I have, it is Angus's watch (who "invented" this rep with the community) which has the most flaws.

Andy's is tip top aesthetically, just a sticky bezel which I'm sure anyone with any kind of watch skills could sort.

(Unfortunately I have none - hence ZZ!)
