  1. Outstanding review Andy. I own the white dial which I didn't realize was a phantom until after I owned it. I like the watch very much and given that my gen Omega SMP has a black dial and gen Breitling Super Ocean a blue one, the white dial is a nice change of pace. In any event, your description of the rep quality very much fits my experience with the white dial rep.

I'm going to a party tonight and your review inspires me to wear the ingy!

  2. Somehow I was directed to Global Replica from google. They now sell "all gold" rolex models ranging in price between $2500 and $3000. Anyone who pays that much for a replica needs to have their head examined, you can buy a used genuine rolex for that money albeit not all gold. You could get a gen two tone datejust for $3000 however. Nevertheless, you've got to believe that your chances of getting a solid gold watch from global replica are virtually nil, if in fact, you get anything at all.

It occurred to me that they were truthful when they named the one ratings forum. What's contained on that website, afterall, are "fake reviews."

  3. Are there Patek's out there that don't cost an arm and a leg?

What would y'all think about an Omega Aqua Terra?

So far as the Edenton vs. Wilmington question, I don't really know either area very well. I live in the Charlotte area and it's nice here although growing too fast.

I've narrowed things down to an IWC Mark XVI and an Omega Railmaster. The biggest positive of the IWC is the name, it uses the ETA 2892-A, with some extra detail and finishing. The Railmaster uses the co-axial movement. I'm torn because I already own an Omega SMP and several older Omegas. I don't have an IWC. However, the movement in the Railmaster is better. Opinions would be welcome and helpful.

  4. I think you should get a Patek Philippe.

Gosh I love them so much. How about a vintage model? Nothing too fancy... great investment though, always.

  5. She lives in the southern U.S. now which if you think about it is like a whole other country. B)

I live in southern U.S. and agree that it is like a whole other country. Funny that you should use that phrase, Forrest Gump said something to that effect when he said he was going to Vietnam. We went to England three times when my stepdaugher was there and I always said, "it's a whole other country."

  6. The Railmaster looked very nice too, and within your price range.

    BTW, I am not Stephane -- that's a Belgian guy, I'm a British girl named Victoria. :)

Victoria, sorry for the mistake, I'm not very good at details. I've been to your country and look forward to when I can return.

Thanks for the additional information to you and everyone who posted in my thread.

  7. That's a good site. I have another, but let me search for it first.

In the meantime, here are two similar threads on this very topic, Teddy Boy. It seems the general consensus was an Omega SMP. That would be mine too, if you didn't have it already.

EDIT: Found the site which my mother used for a few gen purchases this year.

    Jacobtime.com

    For example:

Tag Heuer Aquaracer Automatic Chronograph Mens Watch CAF2112.BA0809

    Retail Price: $2,495.00

    Save 25% $623.75

    Jacobtime.com Price: $1,871.25

    http://www.jacobtime.com/osc/product_info....roducts_id=2106

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Mens Watch 2909.50.91

    Retail Price: $3,200.00

    Save 33% $1,056.00

    Jacobtime.com Price: $2,144.00

    http://www.jacobtime.com/osc/product_info....roducts_id=3283

Both over your asking price, but at least it's a good reference. :)

Stephane, Thanks for your input. Actually the PO is in the price range that I'm expecting. That your mother used the site is a good recommendation. I'm going to savor this decision for a while and then pull the trigger. I might also look at a new constellation (although I have an old one with a 561 movement) and consider that as something very different from my SMP. Thanks again.

  8. I'm thinking about buying a new gen. My last purchase was a gen Omega SMP, black with James Bond Bracelet. I'm thinking about buying either a Breitling Superocean in blue. I can get that for about $1500 online with the rubber strap or around $1900 with the bracelet. Is the bracelet worth $400 over the strap?

The other option would be the Omega Planet Ocean which I can buy online for around $2200. If I go with the Planet Ocean, I'd buy the orange bezel to distinguish from my SMP. Any opinions?

Finally, does anyone know anything about sellers like Alan Furman, Prestige Time etc. who sell gens online at discounted price? Thanks in advance.

  9. Wow... stealing rep pics. That's kinda... cheap.

Ioffer and Ebay are full of stolen pics... this is just another scam dealer, apparently.

By-Tor, I'm not an intellectual property rights attorney, but that is your wrist in that picture. I would think that you're entitled to payment as a wrist model. We could probably enlist my wife who is a marketing professor to testify as to what a fine wrist it is too, so as to bring the highest possiible model royalty fees.

  10. Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the process of replicating a watch and what needs to be done. Does an original model need to be purchased first? Do any dealers or watch makers customize single pieces? please let me know! Thanks!

Did your parents not have that little talk with you?

  11. hmmmmm...winders...my pet peeve.

On a $500 budget, you should be able to get a decent Orbita 2 watch winder that will last a lifetime or you can allocate the $500 to buy 5 cheap multi watch winders over the next 10 years. The price point for a reliable, long lasting watch winder is about $125 per watch. Multi watch fine cased winders add about $100 per watch to that.

    Thanks Crystal!

  12. It is not a buying prerequisite as to what % of the gen the rep costs but it makes me feel good when i get 90% of the watch @10% of the price.

The reason I raised the question is that I'm pretty conflicted on this one myself. In searching for the gen Omega SMP that I bought, I realized that I could buy a brand new Breitling Super Ocean Steelfish for about $2000. That means that the rep price is 15% or so which seems like a lot. However, you are saving $1700 and the watches have the same basic movement, althought the gen is modded. There is most likely a Superocean in my future, I guess I'll decide whether it's the gen or the rep when the time comes.

  13. I read on another site that scotch brite pads (one yellow side, one green) were a good way to remove scratches from stainless steel bracelets. The recommendation was to make sure you rub in one direction only. I tried it on the clasp on my airking (in retrospect it may have made sense to try it out on a less valuable watch) and it worked like a charm.

  14. In deciding whether the rep is too expensive relative to the gen, is the relevant criteria as a percentage of the gen's purchase price or absolute dollar difference(our Euros, pounds or whatever your currency may be)? The thing that made me consider this question is that several people posted that it was stupid to buy a superocean rep when you could buy used gens in excellent condition for $1500 or so. That makes the rep about 20% of the purchase price of an excellent used gen. Other people responded that the differece is still over $1000 and the good reps have the exact same movement as the gen, albeit unmodified.

  15. I just bought my first modern high quality gen, a black Omega SMP. Yes it is better quality than my reps, maybe even much better. But it cost five-six times as much even at a great price. Examining the gen didn't make me more aware of my reps shortcomings, it made me more aware of just how good the reps are. Most people would never notice the shortcomings of good reps, I know I didn't before I found this board. Many of the more subtle shortcomings I still can't spot.

  16. watch2a.BMPwatch1a.BMP

Here are two scans of my gen SMP. I had no idea how difficult it is to photograph a watch. My wife is pretty good with a camera, and even she couldn't get decent shots. Our computer tech at work is a good photographer and has some good equipment, perhaps I can coax him with the challenge and got some shots at different angles. The watch wouldn't rest on its side to get scans of the crown or back, so these two flat poses will have to do for now.

I've always admired those who take such good pictures but now my admiration has increased. By-Tor missed his true calling, I believe, and the guy(can't remember his handle) who takes pictures with his phone and posts them by notebook computer from his motel room has me in awe. (Don't get too proud, I'm easily awed sometimes).

The biggest details I'm noticing about the gen relative to my reps is the gen has nicer fit and finish, much better lum and a deeper rehaut although I've never seen the rehaut on the rep SMP.

When I first looked at this particular watch, I didn't like what the sales person called the "James Bond" bracelent. Now it's one of my favorite aspects of the watch. The watch is within 5 seconds of the atomic clock after 3 days. I've seen reports of that kind of accuracy from reps here on the board, but none of my reps acheive that. All my reps are acceptably accurate, however, with the exception of the first rip off rolex that I bought from Ireplicastore before I knew better.

  17. That's a super price on an auto SMP! Which AD did u go to and where is it located?

    -Rei

I bought it from Jareds Galleria of Jewelry in Concord NC, just outside of Charlotte. As I indicated, I'm pretty sure mine was priced incorrectly as the quartz model. I have no idea if they've priced others the same way. Mine was the only one in the store. Jared's has many stores but only certain stores carry the higher end stuff like Rolex, Omega, and Cartier. All of their stores carry Tags and they have good prices on them too.
