  1. I can smell it from here, and yes, it smells like quite a lot of money... @kegra: Call me crazy, but I much prefer your 203.
  2. I'd certainly pay $3,000 for THAT.
  3. Various interconnected circles of money, technology, creativity, business acumen, and all the other desirable qualities you can think of.... And a huge number of the uneducated, unwilling and generally unwashed buying into everything the first group markets, offers and represents... Bread and circuses, MTV, pimped rides, video games, petty criminality, welfare checks and McJobs - with the promise of someday winning the Loto or becoming a rock star, dope dealer or millionaire athlete. Barring epidemics and natural catastrophies (with them, actually: they figure nicely into the equation) you can keep the whole world humming along like this for a long, long time. Sound familiar, Usil? Sincerely hope you're feeling better... :-).
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if this one goes to a low-profile, high-roller member lurking out there like a big bass in a quiet pool....
  5. Well, there you have it. Can't really expect him to put an Asian automatic in it....
  6. Something tells me that he's crazy like a fox: artificially inflate the asking price to keep the great unwashed from wasting his time, while negotiating downwards with his regular and trusted clients. I wonder if Tanfoglio will jump for this one..... And of course, an Angelus movement is a very rare item - but I leave it to those more knowledgeable than myself to comment on whether it justifies a price like this...
  7. $3,000 for a WM Vintage Marina Militaire with an Angelus movement. Our friend is becoming a major league player.... Not being sarcastic, just a bit.... amazed?
  8. Best first post I've seen in a long time! So who has the best online payment system?
  9. Yeah, that's just what one of my friends from Stanford says too - after doing a stint in a penniless French research lab. Come to think of it, many of the best French students share your opinion as well: they dream of getting out of here and into a graduate program in the States. I guess they lack the brains to understand how good they have it here....:-)
  10. uhh....Gran? Everything all right? Sure?
  11. ................................... Comments deleted on the basis of a common appreciation of Baghdad Bob. @C-Stone: Cantona very funny man indeed. :-)
  12. Love that WM Vintage: it's the only one I see....
  13. It's better in French: Les chiens aboient, la caravane passe..... Simple, yet difficult to translate the nuances: The dogs yap (as) The caravan passes.... The idea being, well, you know..... I guess something to do with the frustration of those left behind.
  14. The dogs bark, The caravan moves on....
  15. As far as I know, 'Baghdad Bob', aka 'Comical Ali', was not Saddam's Minister of Defense as much as the official spokesman for the Irakian Ministry of 'Information'. He was the only high-ranking members of Saddam's government not to be included on the infamous most-wanted rogues gallery that appeared as a deck of cards, and was never actively searched for by the coalition forces. It's rumored that President Bush had a particular affection for him, considering that by his surrealistic declarations in the face of reality, Ali had actually contributed immensely to decreditabilizing Saddam's regime and furthering the American war effort. Dozens of sites dedicated to him appeared, perhaps the best being 'We Love the Irakian Information Minister': http://www.welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com/ Years after, it sill makes for funny reading. The photoshopped pictures are priceless...
  16. Someone should just drop Miss Understood on them.
  17. I'll bet you guys love pushing little old ladies in front of road trains when you've run out of koalas...
  18. You're lucky they didn't fly off with it - those birds love lining their nests with shiny stuff....
  19. Hmmm.... A McPooch! I guess hawks love fast-food as much as anyone else...
  20. Good thinking! :-) You may be onto something there....
  21. I'm waiting anxiously as well...my friend in Chicago says it actually has a display back - as for the rest, I have no idea of what's inside, nor even the size of the case. I wasn't about to quibble, and feel lucky just to have gotten it.
  22. First of all, you've got to have a big grove of Eucalyptus trees. That's the only thing a koala will eat (the leaves, not the trees...)
  23. Thanks for posting that - always a pleasure to see one of those. Very nicely brushed finish on that case.... The 45mm Radiomir case offers the advantages of removable lugs for fitting a spectacular strap and a display back for watching all those little wheels go 'round and round.... I'm persuaded that someone is going to figure out that a sizable market exists for this with the three Vintage (California, 2533 and 3646) dials.
  24. No, it wasn't me....although I must admit to almost pulling the trigger. Hey, you've got good eyes! (Or a reversible screen) Didn't even notice 'Fereze' Now, THAT's a bit of a bummer... I can see why they've put a solid back on it. But other than a WM, it's still the best one I've seen yet. And that yellow lume.....mmmmmm!
