  1. I have located a case for a project, unfortunately the case fits the Miyota 82xx movement and I wish to use an ETA 2824-2 movement.

After a bit of research, I believe that both the Miyota 82xx movements and the ETA movements have the same same diameter (25.6mm) but the Miyota is 5.67mm height where as the ETA is 4.6mm height.

The stem height of the ETA is 1.8mm and the Miyota is 2.5mm

I assume that I will require a movement ring / spacer that will riase the stem height of the ETA by the difference between the stem height (0.7mm) so that the stem will go through the tube centrally ??

Is this logic correct ?? Or will I not be able to use an ETA movement in a case to fit a Miyota movement ?!

If so does anyone know where I would be able to find a suitable movement ring ?? Are there any 'off the shelf' rings available ??

    Cheers

  2. No I believe these new movements are crap and eta parts will not fit onto it. Not sure about the dial but I hear the hands dont fit

    Bugger!

Is there a quartz alternative ?? Don't want to spend £50/£60 on an ETA as could maker it too expensive a project

I have found this from Cousins (Movement, ISA 1198.32 Date @ 3h, Cousins ref: 119832M)

Same diameter as the ETA and same hour & minute hands but the seconds hand is 0.20mm where the ETA is 0.25mm.

Could I use an ETA seconds hand and get away with it ??

  3. I have a sub from Perfect Clones with the ew Breed Asian 2813 movement and I want to use the movement as a basis for a bit of modding (new dial, hands etc..)

I have some dials & hands suitable for an ETA movement, would these fit the Asian 2813 ?!

Are the dial feet and hand sizes the same on the Asian 2813 and the ETA ??

Is there a cheap alternative (possibly quartz) that I could use with ETA dial & hands ??

  4. Nothing better than an original from Phoenix. Thin but tight and comfortable weave. Supplier to the MOD and who Rolex used to use.

Got to agree with this, I recently ordered a James Bond and Black Phoenix NATO and am impressed with the quality

Shame I'm not too keen on the overall look of either on my Sub

  5. As mentioned above, the search function is your friend, there are plenty of reviews from knowledgeable members.

I purchased my first sub from a TD after some research here and all I can say is that you will find everything you need, unfortunately its like a disease I have gone from a $250 rep to a gen in the space of 5 mths :g:

I would hasten to add that I would probably suggest a M2M sale for under $300, it may not be brand new but you will have the knowledge that a member has previously done all the work and you can get an accurate report on the way it is running etc...

Obviously with the above you still need to do your homework and 'buy the seller' but there are plenty of good people here to help

  6. Not to sound cruel but it never ceases to amaze me how poor the building standards are in these places that are prone to tornados. So many trailer parks and wood cabins seem to get absolutely pummelled. Don't they have bricks down there? Shouldn't the building code be strengthened to be able to withstand these storms?.

Unfortunately that is not the reasoning behind these wooden builds, areas that are prone or at risk to these types of natural disasters are almost always this type of construction as it is far cheaper to re-build than a typical brick & mortar building. Its economies of scale, its more than probable that any dwelling be it brick & mortar or wood will be decimated so the reasoning is purely financial.

Thoughts go out to all those who have who have been affected.

  7. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Make the best out of it and build a recent Vintage for rough use, once You get over it.

And than just use Your unique and special Submariner everyday in all situations You would otherwise take any watch off out of care. After some time it will aquire such a Patina and it will be so practical You´ll love and treasure it. You had a perfect dial - brandnew, very special but there are thousands of those.

All great vintage Rolex like the doublered Seadweller are only worth their money with the original, wellworn and unique dials, not if the dials were replaced when servicing with brand new ones.

Now You have a special and unique one - the only one around and made from a Gen piece. Show it around and tell people You wanted it like that, because its Yours. Maybe - just maybe it was Your lucky day when it got its marks and You didn´t sell it. Good luck and wear it well, just my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortuantely I am all in on a gen purchase at the moment so I have no real need for the dial and other parts (they just wont get worn) hence I am still trying to sell the dial.

I know I am going to have to take a hit on this one but if there is no interest then maybe I will take your advice and keep it for a later build.....

    Cheers

  8. Ah.  Certain bubblewrap can outgas and cause plasticizer migration.  It will react with the paint and. well, you see the results.  Does the lacquer have any ghosting patterns when seen from a certain angle?

I'd show the dial over at VRF.  There are a couple well respected refinishers over there thay may help you out.

No, no damage to he lacquer at all, just the painted indices ?? :(

I may well do that and see what they suggest.

  9. Guys I'm looking for a bit of advice, I am was trying to sell a gen "SWISS" only dial...however, to my horror  yesterday (when a potential buyer requested additional pics) I took the dial out of the watch box and packaging to notice I have somehow managed to damage the dial.

The white painted indicies have been rubbed off on one side, I can only assume where I was careless the last time......

Is this salvageable or have I ruined a perfect dial ?

Any help would be much appreciated !! :cry2:

  10. +1

I am really sorry to see so many of these posts coming about at the minute, it is kind of worrying and although a vast majority of transactions go through without a hitch its things like this that could end up spoiling it for all of us !!

I have only made a few deals on this forum to-date but have sold on plenty of forums for a number of years now but I am a firm believer that you have a duty as a seller to ensure that things move as quickly and as smoothly as possible.

If the buyer makes a prompt payment (which is usually the case) the least they should expect is that the seller will attempt to turnaround the item(s) in a similar timely manner. It doesnt take long to package the items up and drop them at a local post office, we all know that people have lives outside the forum and should a delay occur then the least you can do is communicate with the buyer. They would probably accept a couple of days delay as long as they are informed about it.

On another note - and I probably should have mentioned this to the powers sooner but I was in contact with this seller regarding some pocket watches but decided against it, however, he responded requesting that we leave each other positive feedback "to help each other out". I politely declined of course.

I would hope that anyone who does deal with me in the future would be happy with the level of service and communication that I provide and my feedback will reflect that in the future.

I hope that whoever curently has issues with this seller gets them resloved asap
