  1. After reviewing Daschund's comments, i revise my own. I think it is a fair point that we can only continue to buy these watches if there remains room to improve upon them with each new edition. the dangling golden carrot.
  2. The point of my original post is not that Silberstien makes ugly watches. On the contrary. I happen to get a huge kick out of them and love bauhaus design. I am simply befuddled by the fact that so much would be invested in such a losing proposition from a business standpoint. Yes we buy Rollies and Pams up the wahoo, but could you imagine how much more we would buy if they were all extremely accurate? I'd rob a liquor store to get my hands on 5 to 10 Pannies just off the top of my head, not to mention Lange, Glashutte, and many others that are way more popular than Silberstien. It seems to be a questionable business decision is all i'm saying.
  3. conspiracy theories abound on this one. Anyone who knows anything about business would say there is either collusion going on here between real makers and rep makers, or there are very rich and whimsical people at the helm of the rep world. I find the latter hard to believe, especially in Asia.
  4. Just noticed that the new Silberstein rep was made using a gen as the standard. It has a 7751 movt. and everything. What the hell is going on?? why put so much time and energy into a rep that maybe only 2% of the rep community cares about??? Get a gen luminor sandwich dial and get the fonts right for goodness sakes!!! Fix the lettering on the H series 6497 movement to be smaller and darker. Fix the "A" in Panerai. These watches sell by multiples of a thousand to what the Silberstein rep sells at!!! what is the problem? what am i missing?
  5. in for one!!! beauty!! ceramic casing is possible as seen by Big Bang using ceramic bezel. Will be expensive, but will sell regardless. The Big Pilot is gorgeous but can't be repped correctly so could we stop pissing in the wind on that one?!?!
  6. hey all: looking for help with this VC. Is it a fantasy? anyone have it? any experience with Trusty's VC's (quality, workmanship)? Looks great, love the pillow case, but wondering how accurate it is to gen if one even exists.
  7. Looking for a palp or gen crown for angus 111, but also need to know if i'll have to mod the lever or something else to get the right fit. The Angus already has a fat crown, so i'm thinking fit should be okay...
  8. 1. a correct sandwich dial font for the 111h, 112h and 177h with a properly fonted and colored wording on the movement. 2. Maurice Lacroix Pontos Decentrique GMT--maybe the most beautiful watch ever made!!!!! http://www.mauricelacroix.com/index.php?p=...;info=movements 3. Maurice Lacroix Pontos reserve de marche--i'd settle for this in a heartbeat!! http://www.mauricelacroix.com/index.php?p=...;info=movements
  9. Excellent post and way to tell it like it is!!!! The truth and lies can both push us ahead with equal speed. But only honesty pushes us in the right direction. Hey that's a great quote!! Claiming ownership of that quote!!
  10. If it is accuracy you want, don't get a sandwich dial 111 or 112. The number 2 on these dials is way off and is a major give-away. for accuracy, go for a radiomir, a sausage dial 111 or 112, or the 127 a.k.a 1950 (fiddy).
  11. One thing the Brits tend to get right is language. The word bargain is spelled "Bargin". That is a big red flag. I say either the watch is fake or the seller is a faker. Either way, you are best off without it.
  12. anyone know when we can expect a corrected sandwich dial for the H series marina (111,177, etc.)? The number 12, particularly, is a dead giveaway.
  13. two points here: 1: the 2nd ammendment. read it. here it is: "A well regulated militia being the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". You see, this is about the necessity to form militias in defense of the people from our own military. That is the context of which one can have a firearm comes. Sounds to me like the founders wanted us to be able to have guns, but that their use, and not their ownership be regulated. So if their use is regulated to necessetate the forming of militias in defense of a national army gone crazy, it follows that we should not be walking around with guns. However, it also follows that we be allowed to have guns in our home. However, guns should not leave our home unless for use in hunting or for use in militia-related activities. 2: The notion of the second ammendment is derived from England at a time when there was no police force and it was required every able body bear arms to defend themselves.
  14. very kind of you to supply all those helpful details!! cheers and i'll update for sure.
  15. Everything was going so well. i used a ball of tape to remove caseback, unsrewed crown pin screw and removed crown, unscrewed clamps, and uncased my Pam 111h. Sat up to a light with a magnifier. Held the watch in my hand so that the sandwich dial was facing me, grabbed my tweezer, and started pulling at the annoying little hair stuck to the minute hand. Got it!! so far so good. Took a look at the hands and decided to do something about them being a bit uncrisp in detail. seemed like whoever lumed them overdid it and left some smudging on the black part of the hands themselves. I remembered seeing a post on taking a q-tip to some acetone and a tooth pick for delicate procedures like these. I started rubbing...veeeeeeery carfully...veeeeery gingerly........Worked!!! uh, except that the sides of the hands still had this sort of unfinished, rough quality to them. soooooooo... i figure, heh! i'm on a roll here!! [censored] it!! i dip in to the pencil jar and pull out whatever most closely resembles a black inking device (in this case a permanent marker). I caaaaarefully, ginnnnngerly streak the side of the minute hand under the light, under the magnifying glass, no problem...everything is a okay. then, as if by some act of a god damn devil parade passing by, my hand shakes just enought to dab the face with the marker. PERMANENT MARKER. UG. I reach for the closest thing possible to alleviate the nausea that is quickly creeping up my throat. And that thing happens to be a seemingly dry q-tip. Check and Mate. how bout not dry. more like acetone q-tip. i was probably dead with the marker, but the acetone buried me in quicksand. Now i'm screwed. Did i mention this is my first rep and i just got it yesterday? Well, i'm slightly devastated, partly proud to have given it a shot, and completely without a watch. I need advice on a cheap way to remedy this situation, while at the same time, walking away with a watch that looks great. it has Swiss movt, decent lume, and seems like the only thing that the watch really could use is a new face with hands and a fat crown. where can i get help for the lowest cost??
  16. Kollektor: it is light photons that effect the outcome of the experiment, not human perception. without light, there would be no perception. Regarding the initial post, very moving story and sad loss. However, wherever and whenever opinions fly about the nobility and supremacy of religiosity in our culture, the door flies open for debate. Too bad. That's the way it is. Imaginary friends are best left for children. Faith is fine as is prayer, but indoctrinating society at large with a notion that Judeo Christian based prayer is acceptable in a free society is entirely contradictory and probably not what the founders had in mind when they started this experiment. Deists they were, but that's where it began and ended for them in their limited scope of world religion and modern science.
  17. i hear there is a thread stripping issue with the crowns on these sometimes. can anything be done to alleviate that problem?
  18. http://www.silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1872
  19. recessed pin. dead giveaway. sad really.
  20. i've actually heard it said that it does exist as a past limited edition model.
  21. Link to silix 03-97 42 mm. power reserve. http://silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1806
  22. seems like silix has an 03-97 that looks pretty good to my eye for 135 bones. does anyone have thoughts on its accuracy? very hard to find pics of the gen. not even on BR website.
  23. prince: that is a beauty!!! thanks for the pics!!
