Hello all,
I need a set of 1665/1680 hands, preferably with aged lume for a build. Also, I need these to fit a gen 1570 movement. Who do you think currently has the best hands available?
Thanks,
Brad
Good luck getting a response from NDT. I must have sent them 6 or 7 emails over the past month or so. I've never received a reply. I guess they're getting all the business they need...
Hello all,
I bought this Sub replica awhile back. It's starting to lose some time, even on a watch winder. From what I gather, I can buy a new movement for less than a service would cost. Plus, I'd like to try working on it myself. Can any of you tell me which movement this is, or if you can recommend a better movement that would fit?
Many thanks,
Brad
I stumbled upon a red-era Sub, but the red dial was replaced at some point with a white dial. The only authentic, non-refinished red dial I've found was $4100, and it looks like crap. I figure if my watch is missing the original dial already, I'd like it to look more correct.
Thanks,
Brad
I looked at a couple pieces on Minh's website last night, but since I'd just spent 4 hours being abused in a flight simulator for my annual check ride, I was too tired to do any real shopping. I tried to finish up this morning, and the website goes to one of those buy-a-website pages. Can you recommend any other websites with a good selection of dials?
Thanks,
Brad
Well gents, I've done some number crunching. Here's what I've come up with so far:
6542 Build
Movement - $???
Case set /bezel: Phong $1450
Insert: JoeyB $175
Dial: Ingod44 $135
Hands: EBay $195
Roulette date wheel: eBay $50
Genuine Crown: eBay $100
Crystal: Tropic 25-116 $18
Bracelet: Yuki - $197
The subtotal without a movement comes to $2320!!! I figure a suitable Rolex movement will cost at least $1500. Throw in a cleaning and service (since I'm no watchmaker)' and that's another $500. That brings me to $4320 for a watch with basically no resale value.
But alas! All is not lost. I think the best course of action for me is to find an authentic 1675 in decent running order. All I'll do to that is get a gilt or PanAm dial from ingod44 (can't decide which I like more), a small GMT hand, and a Joey B insert, and I'll have an authentic watch that looks 90% the part, but can be easily converted back to stock if I ever need to sell.
Thanks for the replies so far. So for a 6542, can you all offer advice as to where to source the best
Case? Phong?
Bezel Insert? Joey B?
Dial? Ingod44?
Bracelet?
Hands?
I think I'll try and source a genuine movement.
Many thanks,
Brad
Hello all,
I have a genuine Rolex Cal. 1560 movement, and would like to build an incredible vintage-looking 5512 Submariner. Can you all offer advice as to where to source the best
Case?
Crystal?
Bezel & Insert?
Lume dot marker?
Dial?
Bracelet?
Many thanks,
Brad
Gents,
This isn't going to be easy. Phong's son's 6542 has the dial all wrong. It says Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified. I believe real 6542 say Officially Certified Chronometer.
