  1. that was my very first rep, bought from yahooauctions, back in 2001... but it was Ni coated to give a Ti look.

    tjis one started the addiction.

pretty watch, seconds at 6 so difficult to tell it isn't an auto.

now I'm getting the auto rep.

    cheers!

    Again - pics?

  2. Hey whitestipes... hello DemonSlayer...

I've got my hands on 2 SMP Bonds in the last couple of weeks. One from Silix and a cheaper sub-$100 rep.

Both are worth what I paid for them. However the better quality Silix rep left me feeling slightly annoyed.

The Silix watch corrects some of the faults of the "bargain" watch but replaces them with ONE that slaps me in the face every time I look at it. Sure it still has a misaligned bezel insert and the date font is wring (although I'm too inexperienced to notice), but the glaring tell, to me, is the size and shape of the crown. It is the wrong shape and the watch case isn't recessed enough to accept it.

I just CANNOT understand how they can get it to look authentic in so many ways but then get it wrong in where a half-price rep gets it right.

My quest for a better SMP Bond continues, but I suspect the "golden age" for this rep is gone.

    Good luck.

I feel your pain, my brother whitestripes. I had a SMP from silix, then I tried trusty (twice), but they all suck in the same ways. The first silix even had a couple of wonky hour markers. I couldn't wear it for the crown jabbing my hand (yes, I do wear it low, and not so tight).

I gave up on the whole idea of finding one I could live with. Still jonesing for one two years later, in March I set out on a quest for the now out-of-production original gen. After scoring one from a dealer who still had one for $1,500 in the boxes, I was (and am still) over the moon with it. So what if I could have had five or six reps for that much? There's nothing niggling me about it (coz it ain't a rep) - everything is as it should be, and my itch has truly been scratched. I even sleep better these days!

  3. I've been delaying it long enough...

Can someone more knowledgeable please find the crown and tube here:

    http://www.cousinsuk.com/catalog/4/444/1943.aspx

so that I know what to order for my SMP chrono...

My local friendly watch repair guy replaced the tube on my SMP chrono with a generic. It has worked perfectly ever since. He also made a point of telling me that he'd priced the gen parts, and they were, "stupid money"!

The whole job set me back (a whopping) $25! Seriously, though - get yourself a local watch repairman. They already know where to get the parts, and if they screw it up, they can put it right.

  4. Looking back over the years,,,the majority of reps I've had from the various dealers here were totally unacceptable for the money I spent. The money I spent on reps was by far the biggest personal waste of money ever. And I NEVER seem to learn,,,,after all of this I just spent around 400 on another rep! only to have the bracelet break within an hour of it on the wrist. It literally went flying across the table at lunch.

I guess I just like this forum, the people here are very interesting and it's a very good forum even if reps are IMO,,,,a big waste of money (sorry).

Same here, Chris! How/why do we keep getting sucked back in? I thought I was done (bar the board cruising and posting) until this morning.. when I saw a beautiful super-rep Speedy 'panda' review on this very board..Dammit - my gen SMP is still the [censored], though!

  5. guys,

I'm getting really frustrated with this SMP crono from andrew! the crown doesn't screw in anymore, and the bezel insert is looking like asss. Where can I buy a nice crown or gen crown, and the blue insert?

    thanks in advance....

Inserts you ca find easily on ebay. Took my Andrew chrono to my local repair guy, who fixed it without using gen Omega parts. The whole job cost me $30.

  6. i damage my omega black 45mm bezel where i can found replace?

If you can get away with replacing just the insert, try a search on fleabay. I know several members have acquired good replacements from there, prompted by their dissatisfaction with the pearl. I'm procrastinating on my insert replacement until I can get the DW done..

  7. When I was looking at gens a few months ago, a new SMP was about $1300 at the lowest price internet dealer. When I did an internet search this evening they were $2000. Is it just me or did Omega SMP prices increase dramatically over the last few months?

Over the last few months? That can't be right! I started looking for one at the end of last year, and the cheapest I could find were still over $2K!

I gave up and tried to find a used 2531 instead (they're more 'classic' anyway).

I eventually scored a new one a few months ago from a jeweler in Florida (via fleabay), for $1,500. Last week he was selling the electric blue. Nice transaction, with free, insured FedEx delivery, and two year warranty (cards, boxes, etc)..

  8. The issue is more than the appearance in this thread. The crown/tube cutting of the threads on the gen tube and crown is much better and at a different angle than the rep. This means that if you strip the threads on the rep crown/tube...the only fix is to upgrade to the gen, and this is a significant upgrade as the gen tube and crown thread together better.

You cannot upgrade to just a gen tube OR crown...they have to be done together.

My friendly repair guy has already replaced the stripped crown and tube, and the thread and operation of the screw-down crown is 100% improved, and it couldn't have been a genuine parts replacement, because it wasn't expensive enough!

My question related to the DW - here is where I've come unstuck. I'm actually getting used to it, but every time I see a photo of one with the correct font DW, I turn green..
