  1. Hey guy, I've been pretty busy this week. My quartz Speedy arrived a few days ago. It's exactly the same as described in the original pictures.

I'm very happy with it, and for the money it's a wonderful wrist watch.

My large Tachy hand was resetting at the 58sec mark when it arrived. But of course when you unscrew and pull the crown you can advance the Tachy hand by pushing the start/stop button. In fact you can have the Tachy hand start and reset to wherever you want. All I had to do was pull out the crown and push the stop/start button twice to advance the hand to the 60sec mark and screw the crown back in. Problem solved.

I would admit it does make me want to own a gen though.

  2. Best option, but probably not the cheapest, is to find a RSC dial and handset. They pop up on the bay and gen forums from time to time.

Then he can swap out his original dial and handset with a lumi RSC replacement. He can retain his original parts and offer them as part of a package deal if he decides to sell down the road, or just part out the lumi set. He really can't loose if the swap is done cleanly and professionally. It just may be more than he is willing to invest.

    Great compromise.

  3. My SMP 2254.50 also has the new mark. I'd say it hasn't appeared on the reps yet for two reasons. The mark is still fairly new and most likely because of the costs involved in replicating it. I mean that is what they are aiming for when they think of these things. They want to make it more and more expensive to replicate.

  4. I used to have a real beef about the flimsiness of the Oyster clasp, thinking that it had no place on such a costly, prestige watch (from the gen perspective, of course) until it was pointed out to me, that the Sub was never originally designed as a prestige piece, but intended as a functional tool watch: A stripped down for weight racing car, rather than a luxury sedan. Once I got my head round that, I found myself, not exactly appreciating the clasp more, as there are examples of better engineered clasps (Omega, UN etc) but it certainly doesn't bother me like it used to, so hopefully that might be of help to you in that regard :) With regards the rattling... I've found that oiling the bracelet improves the tactile quality of the bracelet, but not done a lot for any rattling... At the end of the day, the links move about and hit on each other, so they're going to make noise, just like pocket change does. I think the trick is to wear the bracelet at just the right tension so they don't rattle so much when on the wrist :):good:

    Dead right TeeJay.

mastrmindalliance, Sub bracelets are NOT flimsy. Think about how many times you have thought of them as flimsy, now think about how many times you have heard of the gen bracelet failing in the field. They are a light weight but tough Tool Watch, not a hefty chunk of bling. The stripped down sports car is a perfect analogy. Like a high performance car they are meant to do a specific job.

They DO however rattle a lot. The gen 16610 Sub that I'm wearing right now (hollow links) rattles a lot. It rattles at the slightest movement.

Your rep bracelet makes noise because it is just like the gen. If you eliminate the noise you will be making it less like a hollow link gen.

I think the noisy hollow link bracelet is a beautiful piece of engineering. Light on the wrist and very reliable.

  5. Hey Guys if you remember a bit over a year ago, with your help I purchased this, my first Gen Sub. It's a 1995 W Serial Tritium Model.

I said I'd get back when I got it serviced and I've finally got around to it. My Sub arrived back from the Sydney Rolex Service Centre today, so here are the picks.

    Here's the Before Shot

    Before.jpg

While I was in Sydney I was fortunate enough to be able to sit down with one of the RSS Watch Smiths and negotiate to leave in the Tritium Dial, Hands, Bezel Insert and Pearl. It took some convincing, but I got there in the end. They said the second anything looks like it's going to flake off the hands and get into the works, the hands will have to go. But they were fine and I still have an all original Tritium Sub. :)

I purposely left some of these pics large to allow those interested to see the CG's up close as well as the job they did finishing the case and bracelet.

    Enjoy.

This was the first service since it was made. I was a little scared that, because the case had not been opened in over 12 years, that the cost might be much above a standard service. Fortunately for me it still only needed a straight forward over-hall.

  6. why you said this my friend?

It's the angle of the rehaut. It could just be the photo but the angle dosen't quite look right; not steep enough. Wokky is thinking of the face of the watch as if it were a wok with the rehaut representing the sides of the wok.

It can be a big deal or a small thing depending on your focus. Could be just the picture. Anyone?

  7. Again, I'm sorry, but if this is what I get here there are a lot of other forums that are more user friendly.

    Hey Avanti,

Welcome mate. I believe you have misinterpreted the response to this thread though.

People aren't thinking of you as the list here grows. They know the correct answer was given right at the start and know you have been looked after.

People are simply posting here because it is a fun game and they are all trying to out do each other ^_^ It's nice to join in a light-hearted thread from time to time. I've posted here twice and the last thing that was on my mind was being somehow mean to you. I've also been reading all of the responses and I don't remember reading anything that I thought was directed at you.

Actually if I had started a thread as popular as this I'd be rather stoked. Cheers :)
