  1. Sure there is. You can always blame someone who actively and knowingly defrauds you. It is, after all, their fault.

Though this is a true statement pug, I think we should distinguish between fraud and non disclosure (without intent to defraud). As pix said, if someone wants to scam or hit and run, they will find a way and get away with it. I don't think there is an easy way to combat this. On the other hand, using a standard sales format, we could reduce the amount of non disclosure by honest members who simply don't know what they don't know. I feel the overwhelming majority of the community are honest fair people, but we are all different. I might not mention this hairline because it's insignificant to me, or neglect to take a picture of a caseback which unknowingly to me, should be a display back.

The sales form doesn't even NEED to be enforced by the admins. It can be a recommended layout, which if widely used will become the standard and eventually community members will demand an ad be in the layout or not buy from the seller.

  2. I have been in contact with two of the sellers and they have both offered to make a full refund. I have also explained to both sellers that was NOT the point of my post. ... Because both sellers have done what I feel was the right thing to do.

And this is why I prefer buying from members; if you aren't happy, which happens very very rarely for me, most members are gonna do the right thing. Obviously as mentioned, do your research on who you are buying from. Almost all my reps are from other members through purchase or trade, but that's just my personal preference. To me that is part of the community aspect of this forum and hobby.

People have different thresholds on condition. What if we implemented a standard sales layout/template and condition rating/scale? It would reduce some of the subjectivity that comes with member sales and disclosure.

  3. I cannot imagine how you could release the mainspring barrel. Did you touch anything? For me, it is very strange and I would like to know what was wrong.

I am, not positive, but when tearing down the movement I noticed the screw on the bridge that attaches the chrono plate to the main plate near the escape wheel was not tight. It was seated properly, which should hold the escape wheel in place, but from what I could tell the escape wheel came unseated, and I'm assuming this released the tension of the spring? again, i am trying to learn how these movements work, so excuse me if I'm way off base.

  4. First off, all of you guys' 3717's are stunning. But that being said, is it truly a 'super rep'? I guess it depends on your definition. My definition of a super rep is one that comes 90% accurate out of the box. From what I can tell, it takes lume, datewheel swap, and now double AR mods to make this a super rep. Given that these are pretty easy fixes, why can't we get it like that from the factory, making this truly a super rep in my book?

  5.

Refer to the above post....use the search button....lists like this have already been made....

  6. Look closely at the top and bottom pivots of the escape wheel, I would guess that the pivot is broken off...hence your problem...

    RG

i kinda suspected that might be it. the bottom of the wheel has about a 1mm stem and the top about 3mm. i'll take a pic when i get a chance. if it is broken where can i get a new one?

  7. I have a question for the experts. I was changing a date wheel on an A7750 and all of a sudden heard a long whir as the mainspring released and unwound itself. I noticed that the escape wheel pivots where not sitting in it's jewel. I tried to set it without removing any bridges but it seemed like the gap between the bridges that hold it was just ever so slightly too far apart. I then tore town the movement, removing the bridges to expose the mainplate and wheels, reset all the wheels and escape wheel, but when i put the bridge back on top, same problem. The escape wheel pivot just is not reaching the top plate.

I am a noob at all this, trying to learn by trial by fire I guess, but could use some help. The Zigmeister's references are awesome, but I'm stuck. Am I missing something or did I break something?

On another note, any tips on how to prevent from losing the tiny screws that sometimes pop off when removing?

  8. If you are referring to this one, it is very accurate. I am in the process of putting the datewheel in it. Chrgod is right, it has a tone of glare. So much that i might get it coated even though the gen has no AR. It's a very versitle watch imho.

Yep. I'm talking about the "polished bezel" version. Here's my (already departed) Link:

    re

I've become quite attracted to that brushed bezel version lately. I might even grab one of those eventually. I really like the Link bracelet, and I kinda miss wearing one.

  9. I figured I might as well share my collection with the forum. And since I like to refresh my collection frequently, I thought it would be a good place for me to put some pictures up for my own sentimental value; my so called 'why did I ever sell that rep, sellers remorse' spot. Pictures are all from a crapy sony point and shoot, bu I hope you enjoy anyway.

  10. I don't think the '07 Cousteau has wood on the back  ...Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

    You are not mistaken.

It's clear that the Navi is NOT in contention here. If for any single reason, it would be the lack of AR. Gen has strong AR.

Just to make your decision even harder, how about the Tag Link Chrono, and the Omega Seamaster Pro Chrono. Both nearly perfect out of the box with a date font change.

Hmm I wonder if you could buy both the BCE and the SMP Chrono, buy a Briet DW from Lello, and put the ETA DW from the BCE on the SMP??? Now I'm curious since I have both.

Oh and what about the Chopard MM GMT! ...sorry i'll shutup now.......(ahem mont blanc timewalker chrono ahem)...

  11. When I opened my Cousteau 07, everything was alright. Mvt was held in place by at least 2 screws and stickers were all at the right place. Only problem was that stem was broken during shipping :(

Damn! How do you break a stem in shipping? That sucks.

I wonder how easy it would be for a sticker to slip off on a hot day. Could be a disaster but I guess it doesnt happen much.

  12. So I decided to some maintenance today on my IWC Aquatimer Cousteau Diver 2006 that I just acquired from an esteemed member and friend who I like to call Sleazeball and who likes to call me A-Hole (haha J/K Dave). It came with a troublesome hour totalizer subdial that wouldn't reset properly and of course dust under the crystal (which I only really noticed after taking and looking at close up pics). These issues were known to me before I took the watch, so no big deal. Well, I crack open the caseback to get started; first I notice specs of dirt, which takes my attention away from the real issue; the freakin letters are falling off the rotor! So this is what I see:

    DSC02824.jpgDSC02817.jpg

These stick on letters look like lemmings ready to take the plunge into my movement! Oh helllllll no. You's gots to go! So out came the rotor. Maybe the previous owner of this watch is actually the Zodiac Killer and is trying to leave me cryptic messages. Or maybe the 12 year old girl that assembled this watch in her basement had just a little too much lead based paint for breakfeast that morning...hmmmm....

    DSC02831.jpg

After scraping it off with the same toothpick that was used to stick them originally, back on the movement you go. Decorated movement my bunghole.

    DSC02845.jpg

I wasn't aware that the only thing holding these A7750's in place is the crown stem.

    DSC02846.jpg

So be sure to add this to your list of things to look out for with the IWC CD. I don't know if it's just on the 2006 or if it is also potentially a problem with the 07 and the slevin. Even with the crappy rotor letters, dusty case, misaligned dial, misaligned bezel, chrono's that don't reset, and double AR that scratches way too easily,...it's still one of my favorite reps! It just has a certain feel to it that is substantial. It's like that person that you know is bad for you but you are just drawn to them. Hey wait! That's my wife! I wonder if she'll mind if I start calling her Jacques. Or maybe IWC-CD-2006. "Hey IWCCD2006 go fix me a a sandwich!" <Spooky cowers behind couch>.

Anyway, sorry if this has already been discussed, just wanted you all to be aware of this potential catastrophy. Now aren't you glad your Big Bang has a sticker on it's rotor instead?
