  1. Alrighty, special sums..........well in that case, I must be........nineteen - woohoo
  2. I've been reading this post with mixed feelings, for whilst I agree with both Ape and DBR's assessment of the situation, I'm less comfortable with the 'witch-hunt' feeling. I joined this forum because I am fascinated with the minutiae of mechanical watches - the sheer volume of detailed information available to me was astounding on first encounter, and still remains so today; I feel privileged to be a part of a community that includes so many knowledgeable, intelligent and entertaining members. However, over the last couple of weeks, I've been less inclined to read all the 'new posts' since one name seems to dominate, and what's more this name seems to be the most recent poster no matter what time of the day that I log on. It's not that I disagree with this persons comments or posts, but they have become slightly egocentric, to the point where you realise that the post is no longer a discussion, merely a soapbox. Picking up on Neil's favourite pub analogy, I'll add that in the real world the 'been there/done that/bought the T-shirt' character inevitably ends up alone - sure, it's interesting to listen to for a while, even play along in someone else's fantasy, but it becomes boring quickly and the audience will soon start to heckle, talk amongst themselves, or leave. I came here to learn about watches goddammit, can we get back to that now please?
  3. Looks like you've cracked it this time - top job!
  4. Themuck, I can only echo what others have already said, namely that that was an outstanding piece of work - hats off to you, sir! :1a: I'll admit that I was dithering a bit about getting one, but now I have to - to survive in that environment is just incredible, well worth the money!
  5. What he said Seriously though, that's a fantastic test and report - very impressive themuck! Interesting comments about the bracelet too - do the gen owners wear their's on the bracelet for diving or do they switch to rubber, or velcro, straps?
  6. VB, so glad you posted this thread; I've had the same question in mind for a couple of weeks - thankfully you beat me to it, and, as usual, did so in a more eloquent manner. To add some info to the pile, my UPO is waterproof, at least according to my watchsmith, although I've yet to dive with it (I've a trusty old Casio that I use along with my dive computer). I wear both it and my 111 whilst riding my sports bike, but no watch at all when I'm climbing or cycling. After reading themuck's exploits though, I think that the new SD might just qualify as the toughest rep tool watch - may have to get myself one prof PS - no screen touching this time, my monitor couldn't handle it last time, and shut down in a pique of electronic fuzz and swirly colours
  7. Great to see the Scottish 'P' word being used in a relativley intelligent discussion
  8. I recently bought the ETA Santos 100 from Silix, which does have the wrong dial (only really visible on close inspection), but I was planning on changing that for Rocket's new dial. Unfortunately Rocket was let down, so that project has halted, but I'm still very pleased with the watch; in fact it's the first one that I've worn to work that's been noticed and received compliments. I usually wear a pumpkin UPO, and that gets zero comments, although I'm sure it gets noticed. The Chrono was my first choice though, having seen both 'Deltahoe' and 'New and Improved Osteopath's' reviews, but my budget took a bit of a hit, so I decided to just go ahead and get the non-chrono...........but I've got a new job lined up for the New Year, so I may treat myself Couldn't decide between the SS and TT versions - normally I would never wear a gold watch, but the TT just looks really good, especially with a brown gator strap (gen or from Aaron). Anyway, best of luck with your decision. prof
  9. Babel sticks in my head, as much for the atmospheric soundtrack as the premise of inter-related events. prof
  10. COuld you just clarify that for me? I have a UPO, that does indeed have an ETA movement (my watchsmith was amazed when he opened the back of this 'replica' to find this), but I don't know which variant it is. Are you suggesting that I can tell from the second hand sweep? prof
  11. It was dinner with my wife and some close friends tonight, so something classy but understated was called for,
  12. You mean like this one? Actually, I sold that one, and now ride a 954 Blade, but couldn't find a pic of it. Both plenty quick, although the TL would try to pull your arms out above 120mph, incredible acceleration at that point Your M6 rocks! They've always jostled for position with the E30 M3 as my all-time favourite BM's. Is that a 2.7S tucked away in the corner of your garage? Oh, yes, and as for Panoz, their road cars aren't that great, but the LMP at Le Mans in 03 had the most unbelievable engine note that I've ever heard! Standing at Arnage (at 3am naturally) listening to it approach it sounded as if the heavens were being ripped apart and the horsemen were coming.........the fact that Bentley won was fantastic, but the memory of that insane noise is still in my head
  13. Woah, spooky, I was just thinking about those Bremont watches (having seen Bear wear them in his survival series) and toying with the idea of buying one, and then I log on and see your post.............and then you mention my favourite mag, Outside, which sadly I can't buy now that I'm back living in this pokey island.
  14. Top collection But at least it's all for a gen 112..........or did I read the post wrong? prof
  15. I try to wear my watches as nonchalantly as possible...........at least until someone notices, or comments, and then I let loose
  16. @brsmith1, if you look closely you'll see a hint here.... prof
  17. That's great, and I fully understand the intent behind the gesture, but it would be better if you were offering to support the forum by upgrading to Supporter The forum doesn't make any money as a result of vendor sales, and AFAIK said vendors are doing quite nicely anyway. This knowlege-rich, friendly community, on the other hand, is self-funding, and would really appreciate your support. Oh, yeah and as LordRasta said, you'll only get hold of TTK via Skype - he doesn't do PM's or email anymore. Best of luck, prof
  18. Brilliant collection Pix, and well photographed - so well, in fact, that you've made me add the HBB to my ever-growing list prof
  19. @ TT - sorry, bit off topic, but curiosity got the better of me, is that a Braille watch in your avatar?
  20. That rocks :thumbsupsmileyanim: So nearly bought one recently, but funds ran out; still very much on my list, and agree with your AR comment, makes all the difference. prof
  21. Yep, I'll third that - you've really done an excellent job, both researching and documenting this for the community..........hat's off to you prof
  22. That's an impressive collection - congrats I'm really coming around to appreciating these - when I first saw them I thought they were too 'industrial-design', but now that I've got a small collection of Pam's I can see the link to these. In fact I've they're on my list, first will be the 225, then a 187. prof
  23. Hey Andy, good to see you back............been busy furtively creeping around various forests in Europe then? Searching for elusive watches...........or bits of leather?
  24. Very nice Didn't realise that PT stocked these? Is it the Swiss ETA version? Mind if I ask how much? prof
