Breitling charges €500 for a B13 which is 7750 off course. It all depends on how much faith you have in the watchmaker. If you send your watch off to Breitling for example you know that your watch will get a proper service, documents of proof and guarantee. You can bring your watch to your local jeweler who will quote you $75 bucks and probably only does a partial disassembly if you are lucky, some oil on easy accessible jewels, regulation and ready within 30 min. A proper service with uncasing, cleaning, inspecting individual parts, oiling, regulation, checking seals, waterproofing, aligning all hands etc takes about 6-7 hours for a 7750 if done right. And that is if you do an easy ETA version. The A7750 often holds some surprises which can easily ad some hours.... So can you get a full service for $30 or $100 or $150 bucks? Sure! But you need to go by the reputation of the watchmaker to be certain if you get what you pay for. In my opinion no self respecting and skilled watchmaker will ever charge you less than $200 for a regular lay out 7750... If done right according to ETA guidelines. My 0.002

Ridiculous... I never could figure out why in earth watch manufacturers would take an unscratchable sapphire and coat it with a fragile AR coating on top?.... Ad a scratch resistant ceramic bezel with a silly paint coating and you are better of placing the watch in a cabinet instead of wearing it.

Probably a wall mart amateur. Find yourself a real watchmaker. MD is in the Stated en myself and some others in EU. Although reps the movements sometimes are the same as gen and need specialist attention. MD already gave a lot of valuable input on this thread.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Eventually we will pull through. Nice to know I'm not alone and the help from everyone is overwhelming. There really is no better place on the internet than RWG. Believe it or not but I get more sympathy from all the nice members here than I get from my "friends".

Most of you know that I am not a 'full time' watchmaker. I have a day time job as Marketing Manager at a big Multinational. But due to the recession they too need to cut losses. Well as marketing professional you are than sh!t out of luck because they usually get hit first. And indeed... sayonara Rolexman. I officially lost my job today! And bad news never travels alone. My wife (expecting our first child in 2 weeks) also got a letter today. She got the boot too! Also cost cut backs. Can you believe it? Within a month we will have our pride and joy, our baby girl, but we will both be unemployed.....I still can't believe it! F#cking recession. I'm currently in overdrive and looking through all the job boards and hooking up with old connections. As a young professional with a Masters degree I still have high hopes. But the timing could be better off course.... Although my English is pretty good (I think) writing a motivation in English is something different. If there is a member who is in the 'recruiting' business and knows how a professional motivation letter in English should look. Please shoot me a PM if you are willing to help. I will write the letter myself off course but I need someone with a business vocabulary tot upgrade it. Due to the personal nature I would prefer friends or veterans! It is nice to know the basics. But I do not recommend a graphite treatment as other and better options are available.

The basics are reduction of friction. Graphite does that to a certain extend but it wears off over time. Graphite IMO is an outdated surface application. And yes, I know some high end brands still use it. But so what? My 2008 Golf had a 1993 designed Diesel engine... Same thing. There are better Diesel engines around. Nano technology nowadays is the way to go when surface treatment is required. I treat all the sec@6 movements with it and the results are phenomenal.

Well I do believe the 21j 2892ers (ST and ETA) are 'ok' also Quality of a movement is not always related to the number of jewels. It depends on where those jewels are located and how the movement is designed. If you have 30 jewels all in the wrong place, you have a crappy movement.... Jewels are meant to reduce friction. A well designed movement could have less friction points and therefor less jewels. But it therefor isn't necessarily of inferior quality. En contraire! As a rule of thumb: forget jewel count and if a movement has a Swiss counterpart than one can presume it is a 'good' movements If and that is a big IF the movement is clean and properly oiled.

Edit.

Simple! Less wear and tear due to better finished parts on the ETA, probably better oiled from the start and stronger main spring. Or simple luck.....There are also A7750s sec @6 out there that run for years. The second @6 module is as crap on the ETA as it is on the Asian. Same modification.
