Just minutes ago disaster struck.....
I was servicing my personal Abyss and just after I cased and uncased the movement for about a 100 times to get the crystal and dial dust free, I was nearly finished when I tried to screw down my crown. Nothing...
The threads on the inside of the crown stripped. From the start the crown would only screw done only 1 turn or so but that never bothered me. But the fact the threads on the inside of the crown are made of pudding do p!ss me off!
Who else has an Abyss and has crown issues? Do all Abyss' suffer from weak crown and / of short threads or is this related to the recent batches?.......
I remember a member posting a similar issue with a crown screwing downs only half a turn.
Hi there. Sorry to hear you had such bad luck. The pushers are hold by either a screw or 'c' clip which can only be reached from the inside. One needs to remove the movement in order to reach it. My gues is either the c clip was not attached properly and is now floating around in the case or either the screw has unscrewd itself and is hanging in there. It should be a easy and small fix by someone who knows what he is doing. Find a local watchmaker who is not brand affiliated.
Good luck.
Could be a number of things but my guess is either the beat error is completely off or the movement is gummed up. Probably a combination of both. Heck maybe the main spring even broke and it isn't generating enough power reserve. Have it checked out by a local watchmaker.
WOW how did I almost mis this post? Great write up!
Never knew how accurate it really was. A new insert or pearl in combination with a Clark Crystal and one is set to go
Wear it wel!
Yes indeed. The crown carries a slot which prevents the stem from turning when you turn the crown. All you need to do is press the spring so that the stem clutch pops out and reglue it in to the slot of the crown.
Good luck.
I bought this one.

The diameter is 41mm or so. Not 39 like Andrew states...I'm wearing it for almost a year now.
It needs to have 3 mods to be dead on accurate.
- fill in one side of the inner clasp fold markings with black paint
- replace the 'maxi' hands with slim hands
- give the dial a Matte finish
I couldn't care less honoustly so I did neither of them
This is the 2010 Explorer I with ETA clone. Needless to say I gave it a full service and Water Proofing.
This baby goes through a lot! Mountain biking, beach volley, swimming, construction work etc. I just never take it off (sort of a endurance test) and I must say. Till now it is indestructible. The 28xx series movement is designed to be bulletproof.
..and because I love it so much a nice pic for you guys to enjoy!
