  1. Hey guys,

the other half has decided that she wants her tiny Longines watch to have an all gold bracelet. She likes the brown leather strap, but wants it in a larger watch. So this one isn't wasted, she wants to put the watch on a matching gold bracelet. I measure around 15mm between the lugs. Anyone got any idea where to find a match gold bracelet that looks at home on the watch? I don't  Anything to watch out for? Too easy to make a simple mistake with stuff like this so figured I'd pick your brains instead of diving in.

Using the numbers on the back I think I've found the model online.

  2. Well then. Those are some serious unicorn farts you've been smelling there aren't they? Tell me, how many muslims have YOU taken into YOUR home to feed, clothe and shelter? How much of YOUR money have you sent them? Does your philosophy of showing more love to terrorists also transfer to other criminals? Killers? Rapists? Thieves? Pedophiles? Have you shown THEM love and taken them into your home and fed, sheltered and clothed them? Why not? Don't they all just need love and free stuff so they'll be good? And I think I'll skip taking a holiday in a Muslim country. I'd like to keep my head and all my other extremities firmly attached to my body. Have YOU vacationed in a Muslim county recently? You should either practice what you preach, or get out of the pulpit.

Did you just equate Muslims with terrorists and pedophiles.

I truly feel sorry for you.

  3. " Didn't read the thread but will make my position."   you should.

It is the height of hubris to not at least listen to others positions before posting, I guess we can only be tolerant to what you think we should.

Been an avid follower of politics, I would be very surprised if there was a single opinion expressed that I haven't heard before.

Happy to be proven wrong, was there any particular POV expressed in the thread that was novel, profound or groundbreaking?

  4. Didn't read the thread but will make my position.

There's been a lot of 'solidarity' memes going around. Posting pictures of French flags, French peace signs etc. People jumping on this type of sentiment and spreading it. This isn't solidarity. This is defiance, and the worst form of it. It's tribal. Few of us in the west act like this when terrorists attack parts of the middle east, which happens almost weekly.

To me it's unbearably shallow and an easy way to absolve yourself of a duty to make the world a better place. Why try to do what's necessary when you can copy and paste a French flag to your avatar.

If people truly cared. Truly. They would go out and make another Muslim friend. Take their next holiday in a Muslim country. I don't want to hear about solidarity unless it's with all types of people all over the world all the time.

We have to act against our baser instinct. When terrorists attack, we don't escalate. We take in more refugees, we show more love to Muslims, we give more aid. That way we make the world a better place. We certainly don't keep bombing Muslims in their own countries. How many innocent Muslims have we bombed in the past decade? Doesn't bear thinking about.

  5. there is nothing to reconcile if ya read what i said

the only way to wear a watch, any watch - rep/gen/quartz/fantasy is to wear it because you want to wear it

it's not like anyone else paid for it so why should their opinion matter ?

I did read what you said and quoted them. You find 'adherence to wrist size disconcerting', and you 'don't know why wrist size should dictate what you wear on any given day'. Yet you denigrated the Panerai wearer, describing him as a 'poor kid' (yet you haven't met him and know nothing about him, or the context of the picture itself). You also made some chest puff commentary about guys needing to 'have the peripherals to back it up'. Which to me means nothing, just sounds like bluster and the opinion of someone who is aggressively opposed (even offended sounding) to another man wearing a watch too large for his wrist.

You can see where my confusion lies, are you saying that wrist size is relevant to watch size or not? :play_ball:

  6. Just wrong.

Clearly there is a lot of people born into hideous amounts of privilege and wealth and we have to deal with making sure our society is a meritocratic one. I can understand the angst people feel when they work hard all their lives and never have what others have by simply being born.

But that's just out of order. How does he know that the car owner didn't work hard for that car. The owner could have spent his whole life wanting that car since he was a boy and working his nuts off his whole life to get it. You know what I mean? When you take out your angst on random targets, you only make the world a worse place to live in.

  7. So ah, how do you reconcile these two comments?

as a medium sized guy i find this adherence to wrist size somewhat disconcerting

and i do doubt if my wrists will ever gain enough girth to rock a proper satellite dish

yet i don't see any reason why that should dictate the watch i choose to wear on any given day

yes but i blame the wearer not the watch

if you like to wear big watches please have the peripherals to back it up

that poor kid is exactly that, a poor kid ... and photochop didn't cut him any favors

Not myself in that pic I posted by the way guys. Just found it on Google images ;)

I just think personally that size is important here because overhanging lugs etc make the watch look awkward, like it doesn't fit, or even immature. In terms of style, things look better if they fit well. You can buy an expensive suit, but if it's ill fitting, it won't look stylish, for example.

Exhibit A attached. What do you think?

  9. +1 on the strap thing. Always thought that a thick leather strap that was too stiff would just make it harder to wear a watch if size is the concern. Usually go for bracelet but would love a leather strap on an IWC if I could pull it off!

3717 @ 42mm is definitely a good size for < 7" wrists.  When it starts getting up to 45-46mm, things start looking a bit awkward for us skinny wrist folks.

I have a ~6.8" wrist and can wear the Big Pilot from time to time, but I would consider it to be a smidge too big and a bit uncomfortable for everyday wear.  It's fine for the occasional weekend or dress watch, but I can't imagine wearing it daily simply because of the heft/size on my wrist.  I find that the perfect strap makes most things wearable though, just need to find out what works for you and how comfortable the watches are.

  10. Looks decent for the price. Can your lady pull off a watch of this caliber? A $31k watch?

Personally, I think the model with the white rubber strap will wear better and you'll have less gold plating to worry about.

Good point! Didn't know it was that expensive. Thought it was around £7k or so! She works in finance and there's loads of flashy sorts around but still.. £23k (just looked it up) is definitely way above my pay grade for giving gifts. She wears lower range gens like Longines usually.

Need to check their range again.. see if I can find a similar colourway around £5 to £7k. Doesn't have to be AP, but this rose goldy/white face look is quite trendy right now for women.

  11. Thinking to get this for the missus, but she's super fussy. Fussier than I am! No experience with AP's at all, so was hoping you guys could cast your critical eyes on it!

I've ordered from PureTime before and was really happy, so was going to use them again. Or is there a better quality rep for a ladies AP?

Any help or opinions at all appreciated!  :notworthy:
