Mercedes Submariner Hands for ref. 1680/1665 caliber 1570

Hey Fxrandy, I don't know if he will or not..., but i'll be sure to ask him the next time i speak to him! cheers ed -
Greetings to all, It's been a while since I posted here, but it's nice to be back... I Recently came into this set of near mint vintage Submariner mercedes style hands, and want to confirm that they are what i suspect (and others have confirmed to me) that they are, Genuine Rolex Tritium hands (from my research possibly 80's / 90's service) for a caliber 1570 (note the long pinion on the sweep second hand) used on ref's 1680 and 1665 Submariners They were acquired from my old school watchmaker (who doesn't work on reps, unless I've brought him one ;-) .. who had them in his spares.. He Asked me if i was interested, so i said yes. The quality of production/plating finish is immaculate, and the lume is applied perfectly, which appears factory and is definitely not any kind of luminova product, as it is hard and dry and textured like tritium. I inquired with some friends who are gen rolex guys, and their thoughts were, thumbs up!...but as i'm not a rolex expert (for those of you who know me here, Vintage Tudor has always been my bag of tricks) I wanted to double check with you guys, some of the most knowledgeable crew around when it comes to details of vintage rolex!... to see exactly what i had. Here are some similar hands (although more aged) I have found on the vintage rolex forum... http://www.network54...+5513+1665+etc- http://www.network54...s+for+cal-+1570 and please check my pics and let me know what you guys think! Cheers, and thanks in advance! Eddog!

Donnerix, WOW!! These look amazing with the aging!! One question, Q- Do you know if the inserts from these reps will fit in gen bezels? Are the outer diameters the same, or are josh's bigger? Cheers Eddog

Wow, These are a nice rep for the money.... But i'm curious if they accept gen parts? Would a gen crystal fit? Also could the insert and bezel be swapped out for the rolex parts a la the MBW? Good luck with the fix either way! Cheers Ed -
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! Tongue is planted firmly in cheek, while creating something truly original... Well done! :thumbsupsmileyanim: and love the Brevet crown... Wonder what the Gen guys would say if they saw this one... Eddog

I have a funny feeling that 2793 was supposed to have been written 2783... a the 8&9 are just next to each other after all... cheers Eddog

Awesome JMB!! It always amazes me when people make projects like this so logical and possible... Thanks for letting us in on the process! Cheers Eddog

Thanks for the confirmation VDB!! I'm glad to find out that, in fact, it's not a bad version of a 6154 I also found these pics of the sandblasted case.. Very Nice!!!, Cheers Ed

Greetings... I've had this project in the works for a while,Inspired (mainly because i'm a rolex big crown junkie) by a watch i saw a ways back that i found particularly attractive with it's matte sandblasted case. I was lucky enough to track down a partially modded project watch of 6154 Little Egi panerai (before i even knew what a Little Egi was, i might add....) I actually got it pretty much as is, save for the modded crown, and the Aluminum oxide blasted case, as inspired by the photo i found, So I have never really hunkered down and tried to figure out what was what with this watch... Maybe you can help here it is... I'm assuming it's a DSN case with Molinja 3602 (thus the center jewel) The dial is a sandwich dial, with a beautiful rusty/radium patina and the hands have been modded by me by way of the "Illy" method There is a thick solid caseback as well, but i kept it off to show the movement, which has obviously had it's fair share of modding as well. As I know this is far from "perfect" and not totally accurate, I'd love your general opinions and suggestions about what might be done to tweak it a little further than it's current state. Let me know what you think... Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy!!! Eddog

Hi, Mjmj, I'm assuming that the movement you showed the picture of is the one from your tudor snowflake, Correct? If so, it's not a 9411 movement, it's the movement out of a 7021 snowflake, the eta 2484. as well, it appears that there are brass parts on the automatic rotor assembly as well, which would not be original, which, assuming this is your movement, a sign that things could be amiss... Wow, I am completely taken aback... I realized the first time i saw my Dad's best friend mint still in box Tudor Monte Carlo about 20+ yrs ago, that my downward/upward spiral into this hobby/obsession was inevitable... When the bug hit again about 7-8 yrs ago, I treaded water on a couple of seemingly friendly and informative forums where the community spirit was immediately evident, and the members were very happy to share their passion with an eager young Newbie..... When my interests began to evolve towards vintage rolex subs, because of the budgetary constraints, I started to (somewhat reluctantly) explore the options available in the rep forums, and in particular RWG, in search of more "sensible" submariner purchase options. Immediately i was overwhelmed by the amount of info i was exposed to, the tutorials, the reviews, the attention to all details in a way i had never expected or experienced before... At first I recoiled, being somewhat fearful of "replicas and those that dealt in them, and intimidated by the fact i know nothing about nothing when it came to what was what in the world of reps and rolex in particular. RWG was just to much for me at the time... But I recently came back, a little wiser, a little more prepared to learn, and i'm sooo glad i did( and am so disappointed that i didn't stick longer the first time) RWG is by far the most amazing community of people i have ever had the pleasure to experience with as long as i have been buying and collecting watches.... There is no pretense, no necessity to get the edge over the next guy, because everyone knows we're having fun with what were doing here...pure and simple! I've had the pleasure of dealing with the nicest, classiest, most generous and helpful people... and all it has done was make me want to be classy generous and helpful right back to everyone i deal with aswell. Ubi and Justasgood, and everyone else here, I can't thank all of you enough for letting me be part of it all... I may not post often, but i am here every day, (more in fact than any of the original forums i used to frequent) enjoying the positive community spirit that flows through these forums....it's stories and Kindness and camaraderie like Ubi's and JMB's that make me smile a little more when i do spend my time here. Thanks so much for allowing us to experience this wonderful project... All the best to you all!!! Regards Eddog!

Any rhodium plating i have done is with an extremely fine layer of rhodium...I've even done complete sets of hands and never had any fit issues. I also noticed that you are a fellow Canuck.. PM me if you are interested in knowing more about where i'm getting it done...Pretty sure it's considerably cheaper than 4-5$ a peice.. Cheers ED

It's strictly for aesthetic purposes, but if you can find a local plating company, or jeweler who can do it, you could also have the brass ring rhodium plated like the Tudors have to make their etas fit. it looks great and it's probably not going to very much addition to the cost... here are a couple of members here who i helped get their rings plated, and it makes the world of difference! Regards Ed
