  1. I like all watches, rep or gen.

I really want to get some unique genuine watches that exemplify that craftsmanship and detail of a fine timepiece like one of these....

I like my gen Seikos and my wife's gen Gucci. The Gucci is over 10 years old. Just had to change the battery once.

  2. Unfortunately, he has really bad taste in watches. Movado, Misha? Say it ain't so!

(Yeah, sorry guys. Not a fan. Movado is gay)

Yeah it's funny how growing up sometimes we are conditioned to think that ballet is "gay" or that doing ballet is not a masculine thing. Then when you get older you realize if you do ballet you get to dance with incredibly gorgeous ballerinas in amazing shape and in very sensuous movements....I feel like a real dummy for going to basketball camp with sweaty guys when I could have been learning ballet :p

I agree that Mikhail's movado has to go, but he has an endorsement deal with them I think I recall seeing ads with him wearing one.

  3. THAT, m'darling, is what they want you to think precisely because of this attitude.

She invited a person I know to her castle, and charged them for parking (LOL). When you take her out to lunch, make sure you have your platinum AmEx, because she won't even help out with the tip.

You're talking about some wierd "royal" euros. I was having dinner a few years ago in Italy with a duke or something from Spain (I don't really recall as those titles are meaningless to me). He was cheap as hell and could not care less about other people's money. My businessman friend was paying the bill and this royalty guy ordered expensive wine and never offered to pay. He rents out his castle too, to get money. That is not USA style at all, totally different culture.

  4. Reminds me of a time I was at a gas station in South Florida and a man in Ferrari was next to me, I said wow cool car (I was driving a volvo rental car). He was the same style as the South Beach dude, "yeah thanks" and thats it....

Norwegian style is more reserved that average American. Who knows maybe he thought it was shallow that the first thing you noticed is the brand name of his watch (unlikely in an area like south beach where everyone seems to be showing off something)...or maybe he's a just a jerk. I noticed in that some wealthy people there is a tendency to not want to be bothered at all, some are just aloof.

I bet some of the people who have a reps of that watch actually appreciate the design of it more than snobs like that tourist who can afford the genuine.

  5. I stumbled upon this old thread and found it interesting. I'd expect to see people looking down on Quartz watches on some of the more elitist watch forums but RWG has always struck me as a really "down to earth" group despite our obsession with a material item like watches.

crystalcranium, check out the Citizen Campanolas and tell me these watches lack soul.

Who would want a quartz movement over good, reliable classic ETA? Perhaps the same people who would choose a Volkswagen over Audi?

A better analogy might be someone who buys an Infiniti or a Lexus over an less reliable German make (e.g. Audi). The German car may have more character and tradition built into it, but the Japanese car will be more reliable and will have flawless electronics (increasingly important on modern vehicles). Of course a lot of this is just image and marketing, since many of the parts are in fact manufactured for german cars in Asia. BMWs are made in South Africa, USA and Mercedes are made in USA....some of the best Japanese cars are designed in the USA.

  6. The Seawolf is one watch that I would love to have. Except my interest is exclusively with the titanium one. What's interesting, though, is that when I first started out on the forum, the idea of tracking down one of these 'legendary' discontinued reps was a really exciting notion.

Now, with the increase in the quality of reps, generally, I'm not nearly as interested in reps like the 'holy grail' SMP with the correct He valve or other such watches...and I suspect that other members aren't either.

Yeah those Seawolf Titanium discontinued reps are going for too much these days, $400-$500. I would love to get one but for that much I'm ready to start thinking about a used gen or a brand new gen.

  7. thanks for the comments fellas!! it really is a great watch...my first genuine breitling....i can NOW see and feel the difference. the one problem i can see the rep-makers having with this one could possibly be the sub dials....half of the subdial turns a different color when you look at the watch at different angles...one way it looks really dark black and the other way they look almost white/silver...very cool effect, but hard to capture on my pics. thanks again guys.

What made you decide to get a genuine one? Did you buy it online or in an AD? I am thinking of getting a genuine one too. The Blacksteel one is really cool with a rubber strap, I have not seen it for sale anywhere though.

  8. I've heard India has areas that are disgusting with effects of the caste system, but it is a huge country and has a fascinating culture.

If you have enough money to afford getting paid that little why not just sign up for the language classes yourself (probably cheap in China and you could select the schools based on which is best). Spend the rest of my time doing your own thing...it would be cool to Peace Corps or something like that.

This reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where Kramer starts Kramerica Inc.

  9. This man is really annoying!

Why would he make us more popular! The whole point of this is to have a super secret society... otherwise everyone will have fancy watches! Not smart.

One of the most common things spammed in emails (besides viagra and porn stuff) is replica rolex and watches.

  10. Thanks doc, I was thinking the cyclops might cause some trouble. I'm just getting used to the anti-glare on two other watches I have, the subtle AR on the Tag Aquaracer and my Seiko sportura. I thought it'd be fun to mod this watch a little. Maybe I'll look for a gen dial down the road, those sound pretty expensive though.

  11. I was looking at my Explorer II rep today and I was thinking that it would be nice to have AR put on it. This watch appears to have no AR on it. Has anyone tried it on this model yet and is there any concerns with the Rolex Bubble. I realize the gen of this watch does not appear to have AR.
