  1. You haven't seen too many Shaw Brother's/Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan/ "Kung Fu theatre" type movies, have you?
  2. I like the movement... I like what I can see of the strap... not much else... I'd buy it for the movement... If it were half the price.
  3. I haven't heard too many complaints about Josh or Andy, or any of the other collectors that have space here... but I'd probably say away from that etc guy...
  4. Now Stilty... Surely scammed as in charged $1000 for a $120 rep... but the rest? That's just ye olde LWL Marketing... that many seem to engage in, for it's perceived advantage. As to "where they cram the extra jewels", I have a collection of vintage movements that have MANY extra jewels shoved in them, in MANY imaginative ways... my collection was nearing completion, but a recent rare find went "up north" toward a good cause. It was a 41 Jewel version of an ETA 2451... which doesn't exist as far as many references are concerned... yet, it does. Maybe the lucky new owner will post some pics of it one day... They claim their movements come from "Orus" which is misspelled... Oris only produces one version of the ETA 2892-2 that is their Movement 665 for their "Big Date", which obviously isn't in this Yachtie Rep.... Oris 665, base module 14500/ETA 2892A2; dimensions -
  5. I wonder as I wander...
  6. Sorry you paid way too much for your Rep there Bill... Fixing the harsh turn and loud click should be fairly simple, but the exact process depends on the bezel and spring construction. Typically, you should be able to take the bezel off by pushing the bezel @ 12 toward 6, then using a butterknife to pry up under the lip between 5 & 6. Fixing the spring depends on how it is made.. if it has a curved end, you can bend it more, if it doesn't you can bend it so it does, or you can re-curve the spring so it has less of a circumference so that it "binds" less, or you can shorten the spring by clipping it... Putting it all back together is simply installing the spring, setting the bezel @ 12, ensuring the spring is in the groove of the bezel and finally pressing the bezel down @ the bottom till it clicks on. Good luck.
  7. We'un's that you'uns likes to be pokin' fun at, typically stick closer to the Queen's English and accent than we are given credit for. Of course, denigration of a perceived group by the emphasis and exaggeration of a few peculiarities, or stereotypes, if you will, have always been used by those of no good conscience to attempt to control the attitudes and actions of the feeble minded. When broken down to these simplest of terms it is easy for even the feeble minded, so long as they have not been totally converted to single-minded blindness, to see that all who use such devices are all on the same side, no matter how many wars break out between them, they still serve the same masters. Admittedly the feeble-mindedness of many countries of late has drastically increased. This is due to the influence of the self same persons of no good conscience at the top of each pile, and re-enforced by those lower in the pile whose character is lacking enough to attempt to emulate them. As far as the fuel supply goes, we hill-billies have been making our own E100 for at least a couple hunnert yars..
  8. And why not a pin-vise Freddy? Then again, you could also probably make a pair of 'crimper' pliers to finish tube ends at multiple sizes by cutting your own, tiny, matched pairs of grooves on the jaws of the pliers....
  9. LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA I"M NOT LOOKING LA LA LA LA LA LA My wallet is in bad enough shape after the last couple of months... I don't need to be wantin' to buy another watch...
  10. Actually, I like the Rainbow, I like the all black version better though... and I am still upset about missing out on EPZ's ridiculous Gen sale because of other unplanned financial obligations. And, I have seen this repped already... Just sub par "Canal street" quality with calendar date wheels... at about $150 If I were into buying reps of moderns, I would probably pay $350-400 for a decent rep of this. Of course the collectors will want $800-1000...
  11. Hey, I think FM is a mechanical genius, like most people around here, but DAMN... even I get tired of seeing watches that look like the bastard hippie love child of a vintage Gruen Curvex and Omega Tonneau...
  12. The Zigmeisterzumba. Big, bad, back and better than ever...
  13. Umm... Lighting is a part of "Staging" which is a marketing tool.
  14. Rain? What rain? A little bit of a sprinkle every now and then... "seen the rain come down on a sunny day?" THAT is Seattle... I've seen less real rain here in the last 7 years than any one year I've lived anywhere else... North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, there's where you'll see the real rain.
  15. You could come up here to Seattle... the "we're never gonna stall" housing market has finally stalled, leveling off, but not really dropping prices. Kind of a "nobody's market." So, you can pick up a $500K house for $500K instead of $600K because half the town is trying out all the incorrect ways to invest in property.. You'll find a little bit of every place up here, and 4 seasons... mountains to climb, ocean to dive into... real forests to get lost in... Just don't try and drag me into that whole pikelet/crumpet/muffin/scotch pancake debacle if you come to visit... I'm having whole wheat toast.
  16. I just checked out the auction pics... and it looks good to me. The case is correct. Remember these originally sold for less than what a crappy aftermarket bezel goes for. File marks are not that uncommon on old examples... JBHII has a 1680 on his site, you can see that the "cutout" in the case is between 8 and 9, same as this one. If you look close at the pics of the back showing the CG's you will see that his example has a hump under the crown, where not enough was filed out. Quality varies. Especially on vintage tool watches.
  17. Where did the stem break off? If there is still stem outside of the body of the movement, then, you should be able to pull it almost normally with a pair of needle nose or good tweezers, albeit, after you uncase it.. If there is no stem visible outside the movement, then it MAY be small chance to get to the other end of the stem and push it out with a hand made bent wire tool without major disassembly, but I haven't seen this movement, so, I can't say for sure...
  18. Looks Gen to me... and I bet he uses a Mac... I prefer the original... the original "original".

I view everything as a 4D target ...X,Y,Z over Time To conceptualize this as it applies to politics, imagine all things good and correct as our solar systems sun... Some US Conservatives in an expanding zig zag orbit somewhere around the asteroid belt tightly intertwined with some US Liberals counter-orbit... not too far from UK Liberals somewhere in Jupiter's path, and we can see the most rabid of our under-educated, over-self-estimated US Ultra-Liberals and similarly accoutred US Ultra-Conservatives flying out past Uranus rapidly toward Alpha Centauri along with their other useful idiot cousins from anywhere they will blindly stick there heads up the nearest billionaire's or politician's or prophet's ass who will promise them peace or virgins or fame or no blame in exchange for making them more powerful (Soros, Bin-Laden, Putin, Bush, your favorite big enemy)... and most of the rest of the crazies on this planet conceptually scattered out mostly amongst the the space between Neptune to Pluto but ranging as far out as the farthest star chasing some other version of the truth that they don't belong to... I'm kickin' back on Mercury, watchin' the show... no hurry to dive in... besides, I'm already as hot as I care too be. As far as the fake eggs go, I'd say, China will soon outlaw them, paving the way for mass export to the US.

Heh, they'll rep anything, won't they? Although, this time I don't want to even know anything about the Replica "movement" from these... Umm... and no "Uncomfortable Jon" jokes guys... Or repli-fart potency & flame comparisons.
  21. Heh... I foolishly dump my money into vintage Gens... pulling together all kinds of little theme collections, just for my own enjoyment... Perhaps not so foolishly though, as one really useful thing about my sexy chronos is that selling a half a dozen of them, one painful sale at a time, kept most of the bills paid for 5 years while I was unable to work due to some serious health issues. Although, I never had a problem reading the dials either. One small example of vintage watch fanaticism... did you know that the little 1J Sheffield AllSport Diver (I rebuilt one of mine last month after nearly ruining it with brake cleaner, if anyone remembers that one), was also sold under other brands, including the Lucerne and ZODIAC names.. and that there was also a GMT version? (I am still trying to piece together examples of each variation of that one, just in case anyone needs hints on what to buy me for my birthday...) An example general WIS-iness... One of those more pricey Newman copies like you were talking about wouldn't happen to be the OMEGA Speedmaster Schumacher "The Legend" edition would it?
  22. That is a really nice looking Chateau Sport Chrono there Arty... I wonder how many people here know about the difference in the button function with this one? Or that it shares the same 17J EB 8420 movement as the more famous BULL-HEAD Heuer-Leonidas & Sorna "Jacky Ickx" chronos?
  23. All of my watches are my favorite... but, if I said that the "best" in my collection was a gen with a VJ 72C would you understand my reluctance to post pictures? However, I did just finish cleaning and servicing the movement of my recently wristied Elgin, so, I will take the opportunity to show it off a bit more, if only to enhance other's appreciation of vintage pieces... I haven't polished the crystal or case yet... that's for another day. This movement is a 17 Jewel, Grade 524 Elgin, one of 7000 produced in 1936. This movement was made from 1935 to 1939 and there were a total of 157,000 made. It still wears a nearly perfect flat nickel finish... These are not quite impossible to find parts for yet, but proper cleaning and servicing is a must, as when parts wear out, they are getting harder and harder to find. This one also just got a new screw when I was putting it back together, because one screw-head was a bit butchered from who knows what watchmaker in the last 72 years getting a bit rough with it. Can you tell which screw is just a little "sharper" looking? And, just a thought, but how many of your reps are going to be running and looking this good in your grandkids hands 70 years from now? This gen has a really good chance of still being around even then...
  24. I just saw a nice bezel AND insert go for $103 on the bay... the bay IS good for somethings... Nice 6541.
  25. Lovely Stephane. Thank you for taking the time to properly photograph and document this wonderful watch. Now you sound like me... except, only my insurance broker gets pics of the really expensive ones.
