  1. THAT'S THE ONE I MEAN! The one I first saw was white faced. The white faced one just had a more elegant look as the black model appears more sporty, more evening.
  2. So they may not make them, huh? I'm kinda sad about that! I was thinking of a 50 Fathoms too! That watch is popular, with the "in" gen watch collectors. There needs to be an archive or a registry for reps (good ones and bad ones). Kinda in the vein of the Lamborghini, Ferrari Corvette registry; for trading and knowledge purposes. LOL That may or may not be a good idea, depending on who you talk to but already replicas are as good as their genuine counterparts. For those who say replicas aren't good watches to begin with, for whatever reason, I ask you to look to the fact that some genuine models, new and old, are as persnickety as their replica siblings. I work in the automobile industry and if you look at it analogous to owning a collectible car, many of which are known to be rolling money pits or require regular maintenance, a replica watch can perhaps be considered the same. I once paid a person from the boards more than what he paid for his particular Chopard replica because they didn't make it any more (at least I couldn't locate it) and it still looked and performed excellently. I'm not saying these are investments in the way a certain Breguet is but they do have their own charm and, subsequently, their own intrinsic value. Anyway, the registry would ensure that even if they made a replica and only sold five of that particular model (and this is assuming it was well-made to begin with and the person who owned it took care of it) you could track it down and admire it or buy it from the owner. I am totally liking this idea.
  3. I go to the different dealers but I really don't see any either. It may be due to lack of interest. That's hard too because it's not often they get the look and function of a watch right the first time. BlancPain has a good history and should get a little more out there.
  4. Is there any place to get BlancPain replicas? I remember seeing on one of those ubiquitous replica sites you're likely to find in a Google search a Le Man replica and have been unable to find it since. A friend of mine had a genuine Le Man Moonphase in steel before he sold it to get a pre-owned Royal Oak Offshore also in steel. I loved this watch and the way it marked the days and wanted one. I searched for a replica and managed to find one! This replica, based on the photos, looked IDENTICAL (except for one extremely minor logo sizing issue, which you could only notice if you were to be studying both rep and gen side-by-side and it had the exhibition back but if you know anything about BlancPain, you know know this ain't one of their movements). This rep even had the very unique way that model marked the days. Anyway, enough flashback! Is there any trusted dealer who has any BlancPains? My friend got many compliments on his Leman that he hasn't gotten on this Offshore. But that is not to say it hasn't received it's share of comments! That AP ROO a polarizing watch, really. BlancPains divers are sedate, almost narcolepticly so, comparatively.
  5. Griff, thanks so much! I didn't apologizing for nothing. I was an English major and one of my favorite authors, Alice Walker, said this at Princeton writing symposium: "Folks don't like it when you're too proud or too free." That was from the book The Color Purple. Or, to be more contemporary, Eric Cartman said, "Whatevah! Whatevah! I do what I want!."
  6. I'll check that site out and look up his work. If I had more time to search and read every post, I would but I do not have that kind of time. I'll pop over to repgeek.com and mill around there for a while. Thanks, Marsh!
  7. That's the first step on the road to recovery, admitting you have a problem. Solve it by wearing a Chronomat or Planet Ocean, if you have those medications. That may help get you through the day. I'm trying to get funding to start a watch program similar to methadone programs. I hope to achieve similar success rates.
  8. I think that is indeed the real question being asked here: what is going on with the new Rolex designs? I have to admit, I've always admired the old Yachtmaster. It just did it for me. I could never buy one because a) cannot afford it and if I did afford it, I'd have to live in my car. That's too L.A. for me! The new Yachtmaster is a "in your face" but not in bad way. Compared to the old one, it's like putting Joan Collins next to Sharon Stone. The old one is stately, sensual and will always look classic and elegant. The new one is equally as attractive and it has the benefit of new features and a sexier look without being trashy. Both are instantly timeless. These new Datejust and GMT Master models are simply Rolex trying to keep up with the Bling Quotient. They may not be understated by a long shot, but it's supposed to up their hipness factor a great deal. Rolex, compared to other brands, appears, and is, more conservative than other brands. But they wanna show their decadent, over-the-top style too. That don't mean we gotta buy into it!
  9. First, my sis did send me pic of that Explorer. Here it is: Nice, no? I think whatever she decided to have done, it'll look lovely. She's got good taste and restraint, as any woman does who can have a Louis XVI chair reupholstered and not feel the need to cover it in a leopard, cheetah or zebra pattern. Thanks, Marshal! The Uyless Nardin watches are spectacular. Finding good reps of them is hard; they are either accurate or come out looking like rebadges of Vacheron Constantin watches! Does bk1234's work stand out from others? I am gonna do a search now. I may get this Sub sooner than later, if that's the case. I have no desire to do any mods to any watch myself. Period. I'm not that guy. But I respect and bow down to those who are. I just want it done before I get it. And that's what I can unlimited checking, Nanuq!
  10. OH MY GOD! I thought I would NEVER get rid of that dog! Thanks, Nanuq. Oh, did you take his insulin too? No? Well, it's a hassle anyway. I always seemed to inject him at the improper time. But with this Explorer, that shouldn't be a problem anymore . . .
  11. This watch looks exceptional. Smart money! Just what do you think was the total cost for everything you did? Can you break it down?
  12. I got my teeth cut here, after being a Lurker in the Shadows and reading posts for a while, on an Air King post by World Traveller. And I did it in such way that would no doubt rankle a few people. I didn't care. That watch was and is horrific. And, like the Golden Child, I was saving him from himself! I'm from the South and my grandmother always said, "People look 10% better when they smile. A smile even makes ugly people look happier about being ugly." If this watch could smile, it wouldn't be any happier. I decided to tell a little about myself so I won't have to live with the mantle of "Internet Tough Guy" for too long. There IS an actual person typing this. It's just that this actual person isn't Admin Harris and so I didn't write I'm Okay, You're Okay. I am not Paula Abdul, willing to clap and smile simply because you tried. I am more Laura Schlessinger and I want to you to know about the ten Stupid Things you did to ruin your wrist. wAlways thinking, What Would Simon Cowell Do? I love watches. I always have and always will. I have no idea why. Maybe the love affair started when I turned 10 years old and my parents gave me a Mickey Mouse watch with the arms for hands. On a trip to North Carolina to visit family, he gave me that watch for my birthday and during the whole trip, when I wasn't asleep, I would watch the clock on the dash and then my eyes would flick back to the watch on my arm, almost like a race. The MM watch was a minute slower and I loved watching both change. Call me crazy! I don't have this watch anymore but my collection is slowly building, very slowly. Slow as molasses in January. You see, I get Buyer's Remorse worse than most. So, to keep this disease from flaring up, I wait and mull things over in my mind for long periods of time. Anyhoo, I was given a Chopard Prince Charles on my graduation from college, I like the tonneau design a lot. My parents got me one with diamonds. I liked it, thanked them and then insisted they take that evil piece of [censored] back to where they got it. I do not believe in the diamond industry and do not wish to support them in any manner, regardless of the meatless showboating that is the Kimberly Process, which I heard touted as "laws" from a De Beers advertisement. Ha! Hand me the paper on which those ridiculous sentences are written and I'll happily wipe my ass with it. Oh, and I am not a fan of the Prince. Don't even get me started on the whole Diana/Camilla thing. Princess Di rocks. But a Prince Wales watch supports charity and charity is something Diana always liked. I feel that makes this a wash! I don't ever wear this watch because I live in Baltimore and I like to go out and I am afraid in one of my drunken fun states, I'll lose it, damage it badly or worse. It is strictly a safe deposit box watch. It is happily living at Bank of America. I do get letters from it but it knows that we can't be together right now. I hope it understands. I was given a vintage Explorer upon my grandfather's death about 10 years ago. I gave this watch to my sister after her graduation from high school, for sentimental reasons and to have an excuse to get me another one! I don't have pics of that watch but I know my sister took ione of it at the jeweler's before she sent it to be serviced, refinished or redialed or something. I'll hound her for it and post it anyone would like to see it. I then purchased a replica Explorer because, let's face it, as far as money goes, this ain't a four grand watch. I don't care what anyone says, in-house movement be damned! It's a $500 watch, if it's worth a penny. Because way back when, that's what my granddaddy paid for the Explorer he left me. Thanks to inflation, greed and rising costs in Switzerland, this became a four thousand dollar watch. I don't think so. Here it is: I also love watches that I can't and can afford. Oftentimes, spending what I feel is an exorbitant sum on something like a wristwatch is crazy, decadent and unconscionable to me. But buying a replica of that same watch is what I call cost effective and smart, say what you will for the legality of it. My next purchase may be a Submariner but I'm so boggled by all the nuances of that I may not get one at all or, at the very least, not any time in the forseeable future. Any advice is welcome on that subject. But I will definitely be getting a replica of the Blacpain Leman; the replica of that watch is super hard to find but the good thing about it is its stunning accuracy. The only way you'd be able to tell it was a replica is having a real one in your hand or taking it to a AD, that's it. It's not a popular brand to replicate and it is certainly not a brand where the accuracy would be a priority. All the more reason to have it. Also, I like to say what I feel and I always stress honesty in what does come out of my mouth, within reason. I have a biting sense of humor and acerbic wit and am not afraid to use it. I feel with all the [censored] people hear everyday, it should be refreshing to hear what someone really means as opposed to euphemisms, sugar coated crap and outright lies.
  13. I would hardly call myself an Internet tough guy. But I'm not shrinking violet. Integrity is knowing when you're wrong and admitting it, even on something as simple and frivolous as this. I was wrong; it's not a fantasy watch. That does not stop it from being unattractive, gauche and completely out-of-touch with style. But since I am not married to him, not his boss and do not pay his bills, I guess what someone says on an Internet discussion forum is immaterial. But I am the Fashion Police and this watch is a violation. You are welcome to take this up with the judge if you feel you've been given this ticket in error. Mickey, you can defend him. But how on earth can you defend the indefensible?
  14. I stand completely and utterly corrected! Everyone it seems, even Rolex, has fits of the gaudy every now and again. I went and investigated the official site. Please forgive me for calling your watch a fantasy. Griffith, you're right; the Air King is boring. Not at all a feast for the eyes like this. But if this repast is the banquetof which Auntie Mame spoke, I'll continue to be the poor devil who starves to death! But there is one thing that I do not apologize for, and that's for telling you not to wear this watch. It's hideous. Really. Get a classic Air King. Or Spongebob Squarepants watch. Anything but this. Mickey, thank you. I'll make note of how you feel and be sure to change myself in accordance with that so that you'll like me.
  15. I wasn't trying to hurt feelings. I was speaking to him EXACTLY how I speak to a real friend, a good friend I care about and lovve. A real friend tells you the truth about situations. I said not only what i felt was true but also what everyone on here was thinking when they viewed this post. His post languished on the second page with no replies. There's a reason for that. I am telling him the truth. This watch is beyond fantasy. The only thing that has more fantasy in it than this watch is running around Santa Barbara county and his name is George Lucas. Thanks for the support, ChrGod!
