  1. The only one I am not sure of is ETA....if you go to the ETA website they advertise the name as an acronym.... Elegance Technology Accuracy Although I have heard it pronounced Etta....I am not sure which is correct.... ETA homepage
  2. Doesnt surprise me that not a single person agrees with him....if you guys want to see the thread here it is.... non divers wearing subs....shame on you
  3. Some guy over at RWG1 posted a thread about what a shame it is that so many people are wearing subs yet they do not dive.... He went on to explain that a watch should not be purchased/worn unless you plan to use it for its intended purpose....and was rather arrogant about it also.... So this got me thinking....does ANYONE agree with this lunatic? My argument was that if you like the way it looks and you can afford it then you are justified in buying and wearing it regardless of its intended purpose.... With this he does not agree.... NS
  4. I used to be a big fan of the gold dial with bar or diamond markers....pretty standard....but since I cannot pull off a solid gold rollie I decided to pick up an SSDD with silver dial and bar markers....I know that this watch is not made by Rolex in SS....but whos gonna know the difference....besides....it is available in white gold and I suppose that this watch could pass for that.... This watch and the red black GMT are my favorite watches right now....this one is super solid....smooth bracelet....smooth sweep....excellent dial and over all quality is top knotch.... NS
  5. Okay then....so now you can try my advice that is posted above....it worked well for me.... In the past when I had adjusted the GMT hand without adjusting the hour and minute hand the GMT hand would often get left behind after a couple of hours....but after setting the watch using the method I posted above I have never had a problem.... Give it a shot and let us know what happens.... NS
  6. I was not aware that there was a GMT rep available that had an adjustable hour hand....thought that was genuine only.... Now that you have mentioned it....do you know who sells this watch? NS
  7. Here is how I set my GMT.... 1. Lets assume that todays date is the 15th....(Which it is) 2. With the crown....set the date on your watch to the 13th.... 3. With the crown....now rotate the hour and minute hands untill the date changes to the 14th.... 4. Continue to rotate the hour and minute hands untill the time reads 12:00 PM....and leave those hands directly lined up at the 12:00 position 5. Now....adjust the GMT hand to the correct position that corresponds to 12:00 PM....in other words....set the GMT hand to 12 on the bezel....(Which is located at 6:00) 6. Now....pull the crown back out to adjust the hour and minute hand and advance the hands to 12:00 AM.... When you complete step 6....the hour, minute and GMT hand will all be synchronized at 12:00 AM and the date will change to the 15th.... Now you can set the correct time and all is in order.... I have had great success with this method....and the GMT hand on my Rolex GMT rep does not fall behind anymore.... NS
  8. I always advise rep owners to never shower or swim with their reps....you can spend the time and money to get the watch sealed up nice and tight....but still....someday you will be sorry.... So if you are to avoid swimming and showering with your rep on....you really only need to have it sealed up to 50 or 100M....this will protect the watch from normal conditions like rain and humidity....
  9. Okay....good to know....but one question....If I buy an ETA movement from Ofrei or Jules Borel will it come in this special packaging?
  10. Although some will disagree with me....you should never take a replica into the shower or swim with it.... Obviously some water managed to creep into the case.... I would take the case back off immediately and hope that you can dry out the movement by letting it sit....not sure if that would work but when I was a kid my mother wore a Timex into the pool and it flooded the case....my father took the case back off and poured out the water and let it sit....a couple of days later the watch started up again....of course it was a quartz watch but still....took a licking and kept on ticking.... NS
  11. Buy yourself a nice watch winder case....that way the watch will always be in motion....that should help to minimize the ammount of seconds that you are losing when you take it off.... NS
  12. Although I am not yet a supporter....I will voice my opinion.... I think its important that people get their questions answered....and I think that this forum is doing a good job of that.... I also think its important that people know what the heck they are talking about when they answer peoples questions....and this forum does an excellent job of that.... Maybe thats part of the reason why the replies count is so low on several of the threads....the question has already been answered or the general point of view has been conveyed.... NS
  13. You should buy the watch....it is a symbol of success....obviously you deserve it.....treat yourself to something nice and in years to come you will be happy with it.....maybe you can negotiate the price down a little....he might be willing to to that.... NS
  14. It sounds to me like you cannot afford the watch....even though you might have the money to buy it.... There is a few things you need to consider in order to determine if you can actually afford the watch.... 1. Credit card debt.... If you have any credit card debt this needs to be taken care of before you can even ponder the idea of spending $10K on a watch.... 2. Other forms of debt.... Must be taken care of also.... 3. Savings.... You must have a minimum of $100,000 saved up in order to justify spending $10K on a watch....(Some would say $150,000 +)....otherwise you are wasting away your hard earned money that should go into savings or retirement.... 4. Investments..... If you do not have some kind of retirement fund or other investment opportunities set up for yourself then you are definitely wasting your money buying a $10K watch.... More than likely you know all of this....but if you dont....this is the kind of stuff that needs to be considered when determining if you can afford it or not.... NS
  15. YOU MUST LIE!!!! I think that is rule #7 of replica collecting.... Heres how I handle it....someone says to me...."Hey thats a nice Rolex....but is it real or fake?".... I respond by saying....."Ya its real....but im having second thoughts about having bought it because everytime someone sees it they ask me if its real or not." This will shut up the average jakol who has not the common knowledge to understand that he is being rude.... I called out a guy yesterday who was wearing a rep panerai....but I did not do it in front of anyone....and I was very cool about it....he said...."Ahhhh....our little secret then...." I noticed that his PAMs power reserve was all the way down....lol NS
  16. Im not sure if this will work but maybe its worth a try.... You could order a really cheap rolex from Silix....it might have the part you want....I think they have some watches for under $50....
  17. I hope you are right....but I have not seen an ETA without a regulator screw....especially a 2836-2....and there is no ETA logo in sight....
  18. Im working with a Sony Cybershot....not the best camera for the job....I cant seem to get any clearer or closer.... Under the balance wheel is 2836-2.....and engraved to the right of that where the ETA logo should be is....AR 2146 DM Cant find SW anywhere.... Isnt DM the initials of a movement factory in China?
  19. Yes....I thought about that....then I have to pay for the shipping....and wait for the watch to be sent back....too much of a pain....when I get a little extra dough together I will just buy one from Jules Borel and install it myself....
  20. Not happy with this movement at all.....expected Swiss from Ruby.... I went to Jules Borel today....they want $125.00 for the ETA now.... I guess if you want the real deal Swiss ETA these days you have to buy it and install it yourself.... I have a bunch of watches with 2836 movements in em and I think only one of them is Swiss....although all of them were advertised as Swiss.... Who can you trust....?
  21. I just picked up a SSDD from one of the dealers around here....very nice watch....but when I opened it up today I got a surprise.... Take a look and tell me what you think....doesnt look right to me....no ETA logo anywhere....
  22. I dont think its a click spring like the one in your link....its a small piece of metal that sits on top of a spring....it nestles inside a hole in the case at the 12:00 position underneath the bezel....when you take the bezel off it is easy to loose because the spring is loaded and it shoots out into the air....thats probably how he lost it....I need one for my yachtmaster and I cant find one either....
  23. Heres my new Ruby DD and I love it....the fluted bezel is a little to common....and I like the sleekness of the of this watch because of the smoothe bezel....nice and classy....not too flashy....
  24. I recieved my movement from Anton today....he did an excellent job as you can see.... I certaintly appreciate all that he has done for me....hard to find good people like him this day and age.... As soon as I can find a SSD dial or one that is correct for my watch then I can have my SSD on my wrist again....and the next time I decide to do any mods ill slooooooow it dooooooown and make sure to ask for advice! Thank you Anton! NS
