  1. Gentlemen thank you for your responses.

I have been wanting a DateJust with a white dial with roman numerals for awhile now it seems a waste to let this one go to market to fund the purchase of the exact same watch almost.

I will keep looking. It is not important that the dial is Rolex I would be happy with an aftermarket one as well.

    THANX

  2. I have recently came across an older Non Quickset Date Just and was hoping to get a white dial with black roman numerals on it?? Only problem is I only see the dial for the Quick set version through online suppliers.

Any idea where to get one of these aftermarket dials???

I have been trying to browse on the internet but have been unsuccessful so far.

    THANX

  3. Yes that is my gen it was purchased in the early late 70's early 80's by my dad.

I would not worry about the crystal too much or the date window. Over time they get damaged and swapped out by most of the owners anyways. If anything yours may not look as weather beaten as far as the case and bracelet goes, it looks too darn good. I think both the watches look exceptional as far as the overall look of a gen 1655 goes.

If anything maybe the crown guards are a tad off. But you would really need the gen sitting beside it to tell. Not even a minor or worthwhile concern as far as I would be concerned.

  4. With so many people struggling in this economy I find that I can pick up a gen anything for next to nothing. I can walk into just about any place in Michigan that sells watches right now and get a great deal. I just picked up a gen explorer a pan 005 and hope fully if I can get in this week a new seatimer that was on layaway for the last 18 months that the jeweler is finally letting go. I have to say with prices the way they are I have just not really been looking at reps.

  5. Well with the beael I set it at the minute hand when I start and when the minute hand gets about 3/4 around the dial I usually stop. I dont like to look at the timer on the machine I throw a towel over it so I really never move it to look. The machine I really like to use the eliptical, is right behind a post and I have almost fallen off trying to look at the clock.

It is just a watch though gen or rep. I even use them when I put my roof on when I built the garage and for usual yard work. If you are really afraid to wreck something why even bother buying the damn thing in the first place. Plus I have hit a weight stack with it and it did not really do much to the watch at all.

I dont take them off my wrist for anything really. why not wear them to the gym sounds stupid not too. They are sport watches!!!!

  6. Check the thread where everyone posted up pics of their GMT's and Explorers. I posted up one of my GMT 2 it is a Gen and I couldnt tell the difference between it and reps.

I think it is all just a crap shoot the reps all look pretty close. I bet almost all guys who wear a Gen would not be able to tell the diffeence.

  7. In my eyes when it comes to mechanical vs quartz it depends what I will do with it. I used to wear my gen Rolex's at the golf course for alot of yrs. Problem was I would always have some that would lose time. When I sat down to think about it I hit about 650 balls a day 6 days a week. So for that reason I will buy a quartz watch if I will wear it on the course and a mechanical if I wont be. I also have a tendency to throw the watch in the little ball area of the golf cart and I just think it is not as hard on the wallet to lose a quartz. I also like the fact I dont have to worry about them losing time if I shove them in a drawer for a few months.

I think the quartz is something simple for day to day use if you will bash it around in a careless and wreckless manner. Now my dad did use his gen orange hand explorer when he layed the brick for the garage.. But that is another story for another day
