  1. Hi halley! :)

if you look at the side of the movement you see the spacerring under the dial which sits on the movement.

it has some "holes" all around. just take a screwdriver and carefully try to lift up the spacer ring. go a few times all around. that should loosen the glue (which is not very strong). be cautious that you do not stick the screwdriver in too far so taht it touches or damages the datewheel...

  2. Tommy I still think it best to go for the 2.0mm size. Remember that one member here has a couple of genuine crown which he has painstakingly measured and they are 1.91mm thick so we are already going over that with 2mm. At 2mm they will look perfect. A 2.2 run for the Pre-A types as a seperate deal is an excellent idea and I am sure you would sell plenty of them (count me in on a couple of those)

yes i lean towards the 2.0mm too. but its interesting that he has crowns that are 1.92mm. mine is 2mm...hmmmm. seems that Panerai also has some differences in their model lines like rlx

  3. So Tommy, when they finish making the first batch for testing, it will all be 2.0mm? Would that be the case? Or would there be some ultra thick 2.2s being made as well? Thanks again for all of your efforts.

this is currently being discussed, either 2.0mm or 2.1mm. we want to make sure that no one still says "it looks too thin". so its better to have them slightly thicker than too thin.

it would be ablolutely great to have a run in 2.2mm too afterwards. but that depends on how many interested members there are. but if its on me, i will do everything to have these made too...

  4. I like the 2.0 mm. Looks most like genuine...

    these are my thoughts too.

i have a genuine 118 crown and its 2,0mm. IMHO 1,9mm looks too thin even when its slightly or not beveled. i looked at 100 of pics and the 2mm seems to be the best. an alternative would be 2,1mm because imho i prefer a tad bit to thick than too thin looking...

we will see how it looks on pics when i shoot some comparison pics between 2mm and 2,1mm :)

as for a 001 PreV: 2,2mm all the way...

  5. Ok, some news on the progress of the crown project:

The newest version is in the making and I just got the info that I should receive the first pieces hopefully end of next week to make a review.

In the meantime, I made some comparison shots of different crown versions:

    1. rep

    2. first PAMela batch which is 2,1mm

    3. crown in 2,0mm

    4. early version with 2,2mm

Sorry for the bad pics, I took them fast and hastily, I did not even install the crowns, just put them on without stem. therefore, they are also not close enough to the case, please try to ignore that also.

    1. rep crown, no news, still as bad as always. I post this just for comparison

    2. first PAMela batch which is 2,1mm

it looks way better than the rep crown, no doubt. It is a bit too much beveled, that reduces the optical thickness a bit.

dani, i hope you don´t mind if i use your pic here, i did not have anymore handy :)

    49867-36427.jpg

    3. crown in 2,0mm:

on these the bevel has been reduced compared to the 2,1mm. looks very nice for me. The interesting thing is, that this crown looks thicker than the 2,1mm although it is thinner (2,0mm). you see what effect this bevel has…

    49867-36428.jpg

    49867-36429.jpg

Also a shot of a genuine.

    49867-36430.jpg

    4. 2,2mm fat boy: this was the first try 3 months back. I like it although its thicker than the gen. IMHO this crown would be very nice for a vintage or Pre-V PAM. These had thicker crowns than the modern PAMs.

    Here is a shot of a PAM001b 1998, looks quite the same… :)

    49867-36433.jpg

currently we are deciding between 2,0mm and 2,1mm. the genuine has 2,0mm (measured one). I will get a prototype in both dimensions next week. I will make a photoshoot then and post here.

    what do you think?

  6. Well, what is more important is not exactly visible. The thing that makes the MBW's so great is their construction. As an example- MBW's use retaining rings for the crystals, so installation and parts acceptance is just like genuine. The reps in the watchonpo link will most likely not have those retaining rings...

exactly. if it comes real bad, the bezel attachement is the same as on any modern sub (with this spring in the bezel ring) which engages into a groove ON THE CRYSTAL which you will remove. and then you cannot secure the bezel again. You ahve to get a retainer ring then... :bangin:

  7. If you define "superior" by accuracy, the quartz will win hands down (sorry, bad pun)

If you like the fact that the second hand sweeps, the watch needs no battery, etc., and you get some kind of inexplicable satisfaction from the "soul" of a mechanical watch (and sometimes you can see it through the little window in the back), and have an appreciation of the centuries old craft of watchmaking (ok, ok I know were talking about a cheap Asian movement here, but I'm a romantic so humour me), then you could possibly define the automatic as superior....I do.

    Really apples to oranges IMO.

i am not really the master of movements here (my knowledge is limited). i think this question should go to The Zigmeister, he is the master.

but my opinion is pretty mich the same as yours. i don´t like quartz movements. the fascination about watches for me lies in the mechanical movements and the fact what immense achievement it was to develop and build them 100 years ago

  8. And if he has legal trouble, why the hell even come here?

IF the whole story from him is true, the only answer i have for this is cooperation.

i know 2 similar storys (not US), authorities offer you a smaller fine when you cooperate.

like is aid IF the whole story is true. maybe its all a smokescreen

  9. Ok, I wanted to keep quiet because I do not like trouble at home (RWG) but I read my name and I just wanted to say what i know.

I will try to post what happened back then, just a neutral description…

Namor sent me a pm when he received a modded watch from joe which he was not satisfied with and he wrote me that he also is upset that he paid that amount for what he got then.

He also wrote to me that joe did not want to make it good or compensate him for the problems with the watch (which surprised me and I contacted joe).

He wrote that joe said he had to return the watch first and he did not like that what I can understand because it’s a risky game sending reps from here to US or outside EU, I lost 2 watches so far too. Anyway, I think that namor did not like the feeling that joe doubted the truth of his complaints.

Therefore I talked to joe that I can handle that and I will fix his issues. No problem, we are not machines, [censored] happens and we all make mistakes, I know what I talk about because that did happen to me too. Joe said that that would be ok, I should check the watch if the problems are like namor described and if so, fix them.

So I received the watch, and the problems indeed existed (like on the pics namor posted here) I still have the bracelet and the crystal lying here in my watchbox, but that’s another story.

Joe wanted to know what he owes me for fixing that. I said, he should send me 40$ to compensate my time and some beers and I am fine. Then I fixed the scratch, installed a new crystal with correct positioned cyclops and a new bracelet.

The parts came from a brand new LV I bought for myself some days before and which was lying on my desk. So I used the crystal and bracelet from this watch to install these on namors watch. It was intended that I will get a replacement crystal and bracelet from joe. He said that I should send back the damaged bracelet + the crystal first and then he will send me new ones in exchange for my (now mutilated) personal LV.

But after some days, I said to myself, what the heck and I did not send the bracelet and crystal, paying postage, dealing with customs risks etc because I thought it will equal/compensate sometime in the future when I need something from him or so…

the day came and I needed something (some things fixed on a watch for a member in US who was not satisfied, so I screwed up to :wounded1: ) and I thought, I ask joe if he can handle that.

And that’s the part of this whole case as far as I am involved that I honestly am not so pleased with and also the reason why I remember the details of this, because it hits me these days. Joe did fix the watch, but i also have to pay 150$ for the fixes which he wants to have now and which is quite a problem for me at the moment, I am currently very broke because of the fact that I had to take 2,5 months of unpaid leave. I thought I did not have to pay that much because I did not demand a new bracelet and crystal as compensation for the damaged ones, but hey, I am not a guy who begins a discussion about such money things (there are far more important things in life, right? )

    That’s what I remember of this case…

now i am off to bed...have a good night

  10. i talked to the company who deos the PVD coating for me and i am back in the queue again. so i will send out the cases and parts very soon.

i am also sending a batch of the new PAM crowns to get them PVD coated as soon as they are ready. depending when this is, i will send them separately with the next run of cases or now with this run...

also, the company promised me, that if i will send them runs frequently, they will give me further discounts... :)

so, eveyone, who joined the PVD project, be sure, you will have your case and psrts soon :)

  11. hi,

and sorry, i did not get any PMs from you

its right, i made progress on the 7750 movements but honestly i do not feel skilled enough at this time to offer this as a service.

but i am working on an arrangement with my watchsmith here. he is a pro and worked for big brands like glshuette and omega. if everything works out, he will service and repair 7750 movements for the eu members.

    i will keep you updated...

You wanna freeze the six hour hand, don't you?

It would bother me as well. :D

  12. I'd love one for a 2893. This is an exciting project.

    Thanks for pulling it together.

    Climb on.

no problem ;) i just want to have some very! good crowns for my PAMs :Jumpy:

i am awaiting 3 different version of the crown (thickness and bevel) and i will shoot some pics and post them here. and soon (hopefully end of this week) i hope to get the first proto of what i believe to be the latest and best version of the crown. i just want to make sure that we decide right and have a satisfactory result...

  13. @ Aaron : Thanks!!

I can sure make 'how to' with photos and everything next time Ill make one, but I dont know when Ill have time for this :(

Ill post photos of the rest of my own made straps later this week.

    Cheers, Kuba

wow, seems like you set a new trend. custom made watch straps with only one hole and seized to fit only the owners wrist. thats exclusive

  14. How do we preorder? PAM doesn't respond to emails/PMs.

you do not need to preorder, as far as i know, there will be enough crowns.... :)

PAM is very busy at the moment, this project consumes all his time.

as far as the new crowns are available, i will get a few and i will post a review. then we all can place an order!
