UPO. How to install a Tube and Crown

Recommended Posts

I just noticed a strange thing in the pictures above: when the gen tube is installed there don't seem to be a visible thread on the outside end of the tube. In this case how is it possible to screw down the crown? Shouldn't the tread on the tube be sticking out from the watch case? Pardon me if I'm incorrect but I have just received the tube and crown from Ofrei and it seems as the crown goes on the "threaded end" of the tube, thus , unthreaded end should go inside the watch case.

ok, I take it back. I was wrong. There is a gasket inside the crown that prevented easy going on the correct end of the tube. Man, I feel so silly now. But I guess it is a learning process.

Yes, the threads in the crown are below the inside surface level, they're hidden. What's poking out is the bit the stem screws into and that fits inside the tube.

(Can't quote the image until I have 5 posts. grrr)

Thanks for the info. The OP didn't say anything about the metal washer that comes with the tube. What is it for?

The metal washer is only for use in a gen watch. When you put the tube in a rep you will hold it in with glue and that washer is not used.

(Although there are some reps that have the correct size threaded hole for the gen tube, I think these were old versions - easy to tell, remove rep tube and offer up gen tube to rep case - on mine the tube just slipped right in, the threaded hole in the rep case was a lot bigger, hence the need for glue like Araldite or similar)

Do you know the current part or case number to order from ofrei?

Onto the crown? I don't know, sorry. You'd need to ask someone like RolexMan or SSTEEL or another of our great watch smiths.

For 42mm POs

There is also one for 45mm UPOs.

These are both for the previous POs, non ceramic models.
